This should be the FIRST video all beginners should watch on You Tube.. It took me forever to figure this out on my own. Even with all the other videos on scales & modes. This is the video that will make U start to understand how to look at the fretboard. This is one of those I can't believe I did not see that kinda things. Steve Stine finally draws a picture for you. From here you can start to watch other videos with a clear understanding of scale positions. Brilliant Explanation Steve! He is head & shoulders the best teacher on the web!

For the first time ( and believe me when I tell you, I have been trying to figure this out forever) connecting the dots finally makes sense. The "front side and back side" explanation is simply genius. And "snapping" the pieces of the scale together... Man, I am so happy I found you. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. SUBSCRIBER FOR LIFE :)

I have picked at guitar over the years but have struggled to find the right help to boost me past that initial painstaking part.I already know the finger postiion but just from an hour of practice after this video, i have seen a ton of improvement more than in the previous 6 years combined. THANK YOU , you are a wonderful instructor

I have watched so many video's on how to play, I have to say that you explain things in a way that I can understand and apply. I am impressed with your teachings, you really know how to thoroughly explain and demonstrate the guitar in a way that not many teachers on KZbin do. You gave me a hunger to learn more, the light has actually come on and I didn't think at my age I would be able to pick it up so fast. Thank you so much

Aztecs, I've had college all over NYS and almost 4,000 hours of police training and seminars. I just wanted to say that I think you're one of the best instructors I've ever listened to. I used to play lead, rhythm and bass, all through Jr and Sr High, having a great time and even making money at school dances and other venues. But I joined the Army and was wounded badly in Vietnam in 1969 and on wound was an AK round through my right forearm. It took a lot of rehab along with my other wounds. I did it and managed to complete my dream of becoming a police officer. I reached the height of every police rank for nearly 30 years. Since I've retired I kept thinking how much I missed playing again. One of my childhood friends is still playing full time in his new band and inspired me to get back into it again. So far I've gone nuts buying guitars, amps keyboard etc. but it's not like riding a bike like they say, I feel like a little kid, so as not to frustrate mugs elf any longer, I decided to start from scratch. I just stumbled upon your instructions on You Tube and Im so impressed. I will be following you. So think you for making things make sense again and please keep them coming!!! I told myself if I can't pick it up again by the end of winter. The. I'm selling everything!!! Thanks again Steve for making it so easy. Nick in NY.

Discovered this guy within the last hour. This is just the second video I've seen from Steve. I actually don't play blues - I LOVE it, but it just never really clicked with me. I understand the theory, and I've seen videos and written stuff showing boxes etc. Some of it probably well done and clearly presented. But I could never manage to put any of it into actual practice. (I'm sure a live teacher would have helped). But this guy blows me away. He doesn't even show a fretboard map, and half the time he's talking, not "playing" or demonstrating - both of which would normally suggest to me that I would have trouble with it. But this works !! He's a BORN teacher - gifted !! (that's coming from a teacher, btw) I still love my folk and bluegrass music, but it looks like I'm gonna be learnin' me the blues finally. Thank you Steve - best teacher, hands down, bar none.

You're last two lessons SERIOUSLY turned on a light for me!! I never saw the 333-44 pattern and now that gives me a way to walk around the fretboard....now looking for tones because the notes are obvious. Ill be workin this big time. I don't have the dexterity to go fast but I can play more tastefully with this information. Besides, Ron Fisher (hearts original guitarist) was one of the most tasteful rockers there ever was and he never shredded. Thanks Steve. I've bought a couple of your home lessons but this wasn't in any of them. Real epiphany for me

I'm a beginner and oftentimes intimated by own learning style. To put it another way, I get lost, confused, and frustrated with guitar lessons. I don't know how to read music nor do I understand music theory. Yet, Steve's presentation on scales is likely the best teaching I've ever seen or heard. I don't know about you, but I know that my learning style has its own challenges, but when an instructor imprints simplicity, eagerness, patience to a student like me, it works. Thank you, Steve.

You are truly awesome at imparting knowledge in a way that is easy to absorb and understand, also what pleases me is I'm totally self taught and have used no real literature or aides to learn, a first act guitar book with no cd, that was it, and when I now look at the lessons you do, the noise I'm making is actually music and I know more than I thought, mostly blues fingering techniques is my main objective now, thank-you for everything, Brian 🎸 🎸 🎸

Out of all the different videos I watch (and the nasty comments I sometimes make)I have to say I enjoy your videos. Skilled, knowledgeable, great production, clear teaching and sensible lessons. You obviously have a passion and care about the future of guitar and it's possibilities. So much better than that Jim Carrey kid that can't go 10 seconds without a contorted goofy face and a bad joke. Even after 30 years of playing I learned something from your videos. Thanks and keep up the great work.
@whoyoukidding17 жыл бұрын
I've never seen it explained like this, and I've watched a lot of vids on the pentatonic scale. I've been strumming my acoustic on and off for the last few years but I'm a novice on the electric. Nobody I've seen ever explained WHY the other 4 positions ARE where they ARE, and it wasn't something I noticed on my own. Now, it makes perfect sense. And the whole "front/back" of the positions and the puzzle analogy makes the whole thing much easier to wrap your mind around. Steve, you're a brilliant teacher.
