The forehand can be struck in many different fashions--and this is very useful when hitting an approach shot. In today's lesson, Brady demonstrates 4 different ways to attack the net on the forehand side.

Thanks for breaking down the different approach shot scenarios, Brady. In an earlier video on Sep 28, 2016, you already explained why you don't like your last example, the really low shot, to be handled with a half volley.

The last ball could never be attempted with a half-volley, which is used when the ball is hit directly at your feet. This type of ball you're tracking down and just lucky to get it before the second bounce.

Those are some excellent tips for dialing my technique back in after taking some time off from tennis. Any reason you don’t like the skip step on the high ball vs the open stance rip? Thanks for the content!

It's not as natural on high balls. Much better to open up your stance and rip when it's near your shoulders.

Hey Brady on the knee level approaches where you propose the buggy whip shot which makes sense should we be lowering down to level of the shot or does the stroke insure we get above net without having to lower to the ball? It is the not the fourth scenario of scraping it off the ground where we transition to a continental grip to lift ball over the net but rather the knee level shot where you propose the buggy whip? Thanks love your lessons they have helped me a lot. Ron

Good question Ron. You don't need to sink down yourself. As long as you can get the racket head below the ball to ensure a significant low to high swing path, that's enough. Getting your body too low can actually hinder your racket path swinging up on the ball. Hope that makes sense.

I see that last shot a lot from clay court players that play with cont. grips. It skips low and is really annoying. It is my penalty for not keeping them behind the baseline with heavy topspin! I just drop shot and hope for the best since I am not skilled enough to get any topspin on these worm burners. Someday...
