She did give the family the journal. If you read the article, the mom has hundreds of pages of his journals and she will not even read them. Jen has a 17 pg journal that he wrote all about her and how much he loved her. Once the mom saw copies of what was in the diary, she regretted even making a big deal of it.

People who haven't read the amazing article should know that he had many journals, and the last one he had was all about her. He had asked her father if he could propose to her just two days before 9/11. While everyone was in grief and shock, she asked his father if she could have that last journal. She definitely had some selfish moments when she did not want to share it with his family later on, but she was also very young. Years later she eventually did share it with his family and his mom acknowledged that she could see why she (the gf) wanted to keep it to herself. They've all forgiven each other over this.

@@texican5619 It’s profoundly selfish to think that she’s the only thing he ever wrote about. He journaled, which means that it almost certainly wasn’t all about her. His family has as much right (if not more) to his thoughts about them as she had to his thoughts about her. It was the height of selfishness for her to put her need for privacy ahead of his family’s need to have his thoughts. And it’s even more selfish given the fact that a Xerox copier could’ve easily provided literally everybody concerned an opportunity to know how he felt about them. She hogged it all for herself with no consideration for the OTHER people he loved. Lucky for them he didn’t marry her. That super selfish move proves that they were just seeing the tip of the iceberg of how low she could stoop.

It definitely seems selfish just hearing the surface of the story, but the article really delves into the heartbreak behind Jen’s actions. Ultimately, it’s revealed that Bobby’s mother has come to deeply understand why the journal hadn’t been returned to her for so long and also sympathizes with Jen, who was on the cusp of marrying a man who really adored and supported her but never receiving that form of relational/familial validation; after all, Helen IS Bobby’s mother but Jen never got to be his wife. And Helen actually does get to see it, even if it is after two decades!

I felt so bad for the father for getting sucked down the 9/11 conspiracy rabbit hole for almost 20 years. The mother DOES get diary (or at least a copy of it), so that ends well. Also, it sounded like the father was finally ready of let it all be put to rest. Such a moving story. This video does not do it justice.

@@oneDirection1Harry1 it’s about her only in the journal? If it is then I guess it’s not wrong for her to have it. However, she was still just a girlfriend, not even a fiancé yet, therefore, that status of being just a girlfriend is NOT close to being the same as a fiancé. So doesn’t matter if she “almost was,” as she just wasn’t, period. And you can’t compare the importance of a girlfriend to a fiancé. I also wonder why it’s impossible for her to share the journal if 20 year have passed and she’s got a family of her own for so many years already, especially when she knows all along how painful the brother and mom have been? I mean, if she, or anyone, is genuinely a kind and nice person, why would she insist on not sharing a mere journal with the poor guy’s extremely hurt brother and mom just to not see them endure more heartache from his sudden tragic death? Would you or anyone else feel comfortable and in the right to just stand by and watch her boyfriend’s sibling and mom suffer even more than they already have over some journal where it simply expresses his love for her? It’d have to be a person that’s a little cold and heartless to do that really. What’s the freakin’ big deal? Her simple kindness could’ve lessened their pain a little and she can’t even do that simple act of kindness? I’ve seen people treat perfect strangers much, much, much better than she has treated the brother and mom, overall something as small as a journal that is all about love.

After reading the Atlantic article, I understand that the gf was dealing with very complex emotions after the loss of both her mother and her fiancé. However, how could she not see the grief of a mother? How could she be so callous as to not even give the mother a photocopy of the journal or even a hint as to what was written inside? His mother was literally pleading with her! If she knew that the journal would give some semblance of peace to his mother, how could she be so cold hearted? Yes, the contents of the final diary were primary about the gf, so obviously she feels very sentimental about it. If the mom knew that, she would likely let her keep it too. Why didn’t she at least tell the mom what was inside and why she wanted to hold onto it? The contents of Bobby’s previous diaries led his mom to believe that perhaps it contained more of his philosophical musings, thoughts, gratitude for his family, etc. That is why the mother was pleading with the gf. If she had a conscience, she would give it back to his mother and let his mother make the decision herself. And after reading about how kind the mother is, I’m sure she would give it back to the gf. The fact that gf cares so little for Bobby’s family’s sentiments shows that she would’ve been a terrible wife to Bobby. I understand the grieving process differs for each person, and that she wanted to keep some things for herself, but she had no right to hurt his mother in this way. She only cared about her feelings and what Bobby meant to her, not fully comprehending that he meant a lot to many people-especially his own mother. She was selfish. Period. I feel for his mother, and the pure agony she went through. I also feel deeply for the gf, but I don’t condone her actions. I hope she understands the sentiments of a grieving mother now that she has children of her own.

How hard is it for her to have shared the contents with the mom and brother over a simple journal that is all about love anyhow, especially when she knows how heartbroken they already are from his sudden and tragic passing? I’ve seen perfect strangers treat each other with much more kindness and compassion than she’s shown the family of the man she supposedly loved! It doesn’t cost her a thing, and, even if she was unwilling initially, couldn’t she have reached out and shared the contents after the first 10 years have passed? What’s the big freakin’ deal to show just a teeny, tiny bit of kindness to Bobby’s extremely-heartbroken mom and brother? She doesn’t even have the least bit of compassion for them even though she claims to have loved and cared for Bobby? That’s just incomprehensible that she cannot even do something so simple to ease just a teeny bit of their pain!! It’s almost as if her heart’s made of stone. I wouldn’t be able to just stand there and watch someone hurt when I can do something very simple to alleviate some of their pain. Like I said, even if not right away, why can’t she have done it sometime in the last 20 years, especially when she’s moved on with a family of her own within 2-3 years of Bobby’s passing? And they weren’t even engaged yet! Wow, unbelievably cold-hearted and selfish!!! I’m very disappointed that Bobby loved someone like her that much…what a shame. 😢
@CrystallyLavender
@CrystallyLavender 2 жыл бұрын
@@oneDirection1Harry1 really?! And sharing it with the mom and brother 10-15 years after would’ve been too much to asking of her? OMG, you gotta be kidding me! Like I said, I’ve seen perfect strangers treat each other with multiple, much, much more kindness and compassion when they’ve lost everything they’ve owned. Shocking to hear you keep repeating that she “has the right to be selfish” over something like this for 20 years when she wasn’t even a fiancé and has moved on many, many years ago to have her own family. What “love of her life?” She was only in her 20’s. It’d be fitting to call it the “love of her life” if she’s loved other men and was much, much older when he died. But even if we give her that, there’s no need to be so cold-hearted for so many years over a journal, especially to the brother and mom of the man she “supposedly” loved. People have treated perfect strangers much kinder and nicer than she’s treated Bobby’s brother and mom.

I knew the name sounded familiar Bobby’s Nephew was one of the children that spoke names of the victims and his uncle during the 9/11 ceremony this year. It was very sad to watch and to know more about his uncle saddens me even more.

Those talking about the girlfriend and the journal need to actually read the article Jen Senior wrote in The Atlantic. Don’t judge without knowing, READ IT. It all makes sense, his parents understand and they’ve forgiven her.

Or at least just share the contents with the brother and mom seeing as how heartbroken they already are from his sudden and tragic passing at such a young age. It’s a very simple act of kindness for her to do and yet, she’s not done that for 20 years. I’ve seen perfect strangers treat each other much kinder and with more compassion than she’s shown the still-very-heartbroken brother and mom. That really shows that she’s just not a nice person. 🙁 I mean, if she really loved and cared for Bobby, why would she have the heart to make them hurt even more than they already have been over such a small thing? It’s just a journal about his love for her, what’s the big freakin’ deal? Some girlfriend! I, and most everyone else, would not have the heart to use the journal to cause more pain for the boyfriend’s family when she could’ve easily shared the journal many years(like after 10 years have gone by) ago, even if not initially after obtaining it. Not too nice of a person, is she? How can she just stand by for 20 years and not do a very simple act of kindness towards the family of a man that she supposedly loved, which wouldn’t even have cost her a thing?

I really don’t know all of the Details but I find it really hard to believe that the girlfriend ended up with a journal when really I feel it should’ve been the mother if she was able to get it if not the brother. A close family relative otherwise

The article is worth reading, it goes into detail about what that last journal said. Once the mother was able to read it, she understood why Jenn had so much grief over it and wanted to keep it. I wish this interview was able to go into that more.

Girlfriend is very selfish.. not a nice person. Even if Dad said she could have the journal..knowing that his MOTHER wanted the journal she should have given it to her. What a mean and selfish thing to do. Huge lack of character.
@CrystallyLavender
@CrystallyLavender 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, that’s what I say - huge lack of character, and, just basics humanity, really! I mean, I think it’s okay that she has it, but would it be sooooo freakin’ difficult to share the contents with the mom and brother after, say, 10 -15 years of his passing? OMG, gimme a break!! It’s such a simple thing to do and doesn’t cost her anything. And I’m even giving her 10-15 years to share it, for God’s sake! Perfect strangers have treated each other muck, much, much kinder and with much, much more compassion than she’s shown them in the last 20 years! Geesh! It’s like, really, she can’t just not even add more heartache to their already-very-broken heart by doing something so simple? And this from the woman “supposedly” claiming that Bobby was the “love of her life?” Wow, mind-blowing how she seems to have a heart made of stone! And yet, someone keeps commenting that “she has the right to be selfish because she lost the love of her life,” which doesn’t even make any sense whatsoever!

That's wrong. Give it back to the mother. She knew him his whole life and you come in to a tiny part of it. Give it back cuz that is her child. Make a copy and give the book back. @@carolinegoss856 Rightfully? By what definition? Having another love has not a thing to do with it. He loved her and he would have wanted her to know how he felt about her. Sadly he wasn't here, to express that to her, but was able to through his journal. He was going to "marry" her. You are saying that by "finding another love" it invalidated the love that she had with him. One cannot replace another. I'm not here to argue. Perhaps look at it from a different perspective. Let's think about, just once, what they may have wanted and not always about what we want.
