Here is the most important scale you need to learn if you are a beginner at electric bass!
It is the major scale and to me it is the foundation of popular western music. When I started playing bass I was mostly self taught and learned from videos. I did not focus much on anything theory based, when I did finally come across scales and music theory I started with the major scale and it gave me the road map I needed to build everything else off of. I am hoping this video can provide you with a similar road map!
I wanted to cover as much ground as I could on this particular topic. We start with the technique and approach to understanding the notes and intervals within the major scale. Then we dive into the concept of practicing the scale at different speeds. From there we practice using the scale over real life examples and songs from out in the world, and also using both simple basic dry tones as well as dirtier, effected tones to learn the scale in context. Finally we end up touching on a CMaj7 arpeggio as a bit of bonus content.
I am not sure how basic this video may be for some but I wanted to start with very simple applications in learning, from the perspective of someone who started off self taught. Somethings may be clunky here but I did my best to translate how I would teach this lesson in person.
Bass is sometimes a very simple instrument that focuses on serving a function within an ensemble more so than standing on its own. Obviously theory is still super important and I want you to embrace how it can help you get more comfortable on the instrument.
As a recording bass player and live bassist, this scale will pop up in your life every day - get familiar!
Let me know your thoughts, I hope this helps you find something new to experiment with and most importantly, have fun with.
I can't thank you all enough for viewing the channel - it really means a lot. The recent subscribers and comments have made me super motivated to explore more topics - thanks to everyone for checking out my videos!
I hope you have a great week.
