Every since I saw Eraserhead back in the early 80's I have felt to connected to David Lynch's way of looking at things. It would be a real privilege to be able to sit with this brilliant man an just talk about whatever while the rain is coming down like in this video. I grew up in Philadelphia from where Eraserhead was inspired. I have been an artist and musician most of my life and found that I am unable to relate to most people around me who lead mundane and shallow lives. For them, the entire meaning of life is work and sports and mindless TV. Anything outside of that realm and you're a weirdo like me.

why do i avoid ~5min videos in the afternoon because they're "too long", but will watch pure rain and rumination for an hour straight in the middle of the night ? it's nearly 3am, but i can't stop

Because night is more than just the absence of sunlight. It's almost an inverse of our existence itself and even some laws of physics seem to vanish, as it feels like time itself stops. You don't feel a progression of time during the night, since there is no sunlight to (roughly) tell you the time of day. If you don't look at a clock, you have no idea what time it is, hence it is as if time ceases to exist. There are no duties to perform, no appointments at night, no obligations (except maybe to yourself). Even random people you meet outside, if you go for a walk for example, behave differently. Provided you live in a city/town which is small enough so there is no traffic at night, you may as well sit down in the middle of an intersection and have a chat with a friend or with yourself there. No one will care because no one is around. So in a way, the law and limitations that govern our "living together" also crumble during night time. You can feel free to do things you would never do during daylight. I love the night and am just about "OK" with the day. I'm a writer and I noticed that I only produce stuff worth reading if I write at night. It's my best friend and the only time when I feel truly free.
