But look at it from her perspective. It's a cheaper alternative, and she'd like it. Sure it's heartfelt and kind of him, but he should've listened to her and got her the ring as a small gift for her birthday.

To the person who got the ring; Yes. You are in the wrong, because he went out of his way to actually BUY you a ring.
