Where is everyone hiking too? There is no place to run where they cannot track you (financially, drones, street cameras, someones cellphone, game/land wardens, loggers or security camera) If its about short term survival I guess fleeing works. But long term face your fears and face your enemies. Somebody has to be the fodder right? And let me add that we are what, 12% of the worldwide population. In other words there is no place to run. There are 7+ billion people who would love our land and are in fact taking it. What are you going to do about it, run to the woods like a Tupiniquim?

I always liked the Modular Sleep System. I was in the Army from 1986-2016 and the first sleeping bag I was issued was awful. It didn’t compress and was made out of cotton that soaked up water and never dried. I also liked the CFP-90 rucksack. Not many people were ever issued that rucksack but it’s the best. It’s the only rucksack they ever issued me that didn’t weigh 10 pounds empty.

I got out in 86 after 10 years...the two things I managed to keep that still survive today are the poncho and liner I've had since like 79. The liner is still in pretty good shape...the poncho is getting rough, but the pair still go into my ruck, and until I added one of them MSS bivvies a few years back, were my summer sleep system. Now the poncho is pretty much just used for a quick shelter. I gave my ALICE pack, belt & suspenders to my oldest son, and didn't recover it after I lost him. I like to think that he's using it in heaven.

Best ever was the gerber multi tool. It's by far the most useful thing i was ever issued. Carried them in several different countries and keep it in my truck to this very day. Poncho liner is a second best.

My green Jungles were my favorite boots(once broken in and steel shank removed). The Tan ones I was issued were fantastic, no break in needed. My favorite gear was H harness, buttpack, 2 canteens and 4 m16 pouch LBE. Woobie is a given, modified mine with a zipper so I could use it as a lightweight sleeping bag(still using it today).

@@Buckaroomedic it’s good kit without a doubt but the condensation build up inside it gives it a second place for me. I’d rather put up a poncho hooch and be a little colder than be wet when I wake up.

I have the model with the vibram sole and they are a great boot. I have another pair that are lower cut combat hikers also a great boot. I have type one and two alice packs that are very useful I found as surplus

In 92' I was issued some Danner Ft Lewis boots. Best lasting and winter boots ever. Still have the two pair, woobie as well. Too many good items

1. Green Jungle boots. Durable, great three season boot, panama sole cleans out mud really well, Great for wet environments, Do your part with Kiwi polish and the boots will last for a long time, Comfortable after broke in and putting in a quality insole, light, they can be resoled. Personally, I've never had an issue with ankle stability. I rucked hundreds of miles with rucks as heavy as 120 Lb. in the Infantry, SFAS, and later on with an ODA. I Still use them today, A great investment for about 100.00 on Ebay for new old issue surplus. My last purchase was a pair of slightly used Veitnam era green jungles...... and they are doing just fine! 2. Woobie. Light, durable and valuable in a lot of scenarios. Packs well in butt packs, rucks or assault packs. Used in conjunction with other clothing items can make a long night a little less miserable. Lots of guys would pack a woobie and a goretex bivy as "Ranger Roll" because its lighter and takes up less space than the issued sleep system. Used in all but the most extreme cold environments (Like Deer Lodge National Forest in Montana in January/February for winter warfare training). I still use one today. 3. Large Alice Ruck. Durable, easier to use for airborne operations, the frame allows for more ventilation, doesn't have a waist belt (like Mystery Ranch, Stone Glacier etc) so it doesn't interfere with gun belt/ LBE. Literally seen these tumble down a 1000 feet of mountain side with no ill effect. can be made more comfortable with straps from tactical tailor. 4. Woodland Goretex Bivy. Durable, and truly water proof, combined with a woobie it makes a great ranger roll. I feel like you could float away in downpour and stay dry. I still use the bivy today . Green

I was active duty 66-68 and the only piece of military gear I wish I could have kept was my m14 which I only had during basic training outside of that maybe the sleeping bag, the rest of the stuff was junk. I have acquired some of the modern military gear as well as civilian gear though, just in case. The world is just a little unstable currently, to say the least.

I've got a pair of Belleville C320s (those look the same so the tag inside on the tongue would say if its not washed out), did the same thing out for a ruck no break in 100lbs+ of crap. They're my go to for anything I want boots for even in cooler weather...many miles and years later I sometimes even wear them like slippers they're so comfy. The other would be my Granite Gear Chief patrol rucks.

Coleman's Surplus, $99.98 for RAT Military Boots. Also brand new Swiss Military Boots, full leather (cold weather. Swiss Boots sometimes come with 1 or 2 upper loops missing. But Weaver Leather sells the packs of loops w/rivets for repair. Swiss Boots $ 65.98 (superb quality, excellent fitment).

I worked in Helmand 2009 as a contractor on a couple of gigs with the Marines, my boots blew out. The Logs guy felt bad for me and gave me a pair of those Rat boots, they where a 1/2 size too big but here in 2024 there still working very well and still a half size too big. last year I bought a pair on ebay 1/2 size smaller but I havent even broke em out yet.

I loved my Belleville boots, got years of use out of them. I learned a little trick for Belleville boot awhile back, when/if you clean your boot us a q-tip and rub some olive oil where the boot and sole meet to help stop that the split problem at least for awhile.

ILBE 2 for me. No assault pack. Just the ruck, hip straps, and limited/cut straps. its a great and comfortable pack for the woods or desert... I sure did enjoy those hip straps compared to civvie stuff a pound lighter.

Mine in my 21 years from 03-24 would have to be the Original Oakley boots and or the new ECWCS system since I spent about 7 years in Alaska and when I first got there we had the old woodland system and saw the transition to the new system which was a lot better.

I came from the shiny boots days. You always had an inspection pair and a EDC pair! Same with dress shoes. Do they still have corfams? The only issue items I still have are my field jacket from the Seabees and my old style OD foul weather jacket from my first ship (a guided missile destroyer) I can't wear either one now. I'm 67 and a fat old fart.

You will spend most of an active war on your feet and you can't change them out! Here in the UK we have a native factory called Altberg. I have been supplementing my army-issue with them for 20 years. Boot choices in the military have improved since Afghan and we now have a lot of variety...depending on what your unit can source.

I have a pair of those boots I wear near only the daily and they are slicker than yours. Like you, I have another pair as well. I have no idea how many miles are on mine, but I'd wager close to 1k over the past 4 years I've owned them. The other pair looks new compared to current daily wear. Other than that I have a basic Gerber that I bought on my way to my first duty station and I still have post retirement from the military. Had it on me nearly every day of the 20-plus years I served.

Funny you mention AA school. When I went through in 1989 and had that last layout inspection, I was somehow missing a glove liner. They caught it and recycled me. Second time through, I had my shit squared away. To this day I don't know how that thing got out of my ruck.
