By far the best 'kids' markers I've used are Crayola Supertips, I'd love to see you comparing those. I love my alcohol markers, but I can use the Supertips in colouring books and get a decent blend with them, especially on smoother papers!

Yes! And plain old water based crayola markers do VERY well on water colour paper.

I mean, of course I'm not picking the cheap side this time. But it is still fun to see you make very passable art with subpar materials. And I think it is a very nice showcase, both of what a skilled artist can do with any material, and the kind of elevation that you can expect to see when giving professional tools to a skilled artist. This is potentially a great video for parents with young but talented kids looking to make the first jump from schoolhouse markers to artist materials.
@jsalsa2369 Жыл бұрын
You did a great job with the cheap water base pens. It's unfair to compare the two. If you had kids and watched them color, you'd understand why cheap markers are the way to go. 😂 Thanks for sharing. Look forward to the next one.

It’s weird that the Ohuhu markers are better looking because of it’s softer blends and tones. Although, I find I like the hair better on the cheap side because it looks brighter and punchy. A weird thing to see because I like different things from each side. Great video👍🏽

I wish a company would make a decent non-toxic marker set for kids. My kids are in this awkward stage where I’d love to give them better supplies than Crayola but they’re not quite trustworthy with alcohol markers yet. I’ve debated trying some of the ohuhu water based ones for them, but I’d love to see a company actually tap into the kid safe but quality supplies market.
@shayes.x Жыл бұрын
I think the point of kids markers are that they are both safe for kids, don't stain, look fun, and won't hurt your soul when your kid inevitably loses or destroys them. I don't disagree that the kids ones are not made for a serious artist, but they're perfect for younger children who like to doodle. I also think the price difference is a bit downplayed; it's a 2,000% price increase for the nicer ones. And for many, $20 is a lot more money than $1. That said, I did enjoy the video and I think this series is fun!

Honestly, water based markers are fun to use in sketchbooks. They are great when you wanna play around with more blocks of color over blending. I think both are good to have-BUT really SuperTip style water-based markers (like Crayola and even Cra-Z-Art) are better since they can lay down a good chunk of color without destroying the paper. They're also a great tool to use to play with color combinations-getting the saturated colors to pop against one another-a great way to learn and try out colors for a lot of things. All in all those water-based markers can be good to help in thumbnailing color layout with their vibrancy. This can actually really help in the alcohol marker work through that.
@JayofallTrades Жыл бұрын
I think for kids 4-10 years old, its worth the cheap ones to let them just color. When they are older say 13-15 and want to advance in thier art, then I'd invest in the better quality markers. As a teenager i used a lot of cheap supplies but it worked while i was learning. Now i have ohuhu markers and my art looks a whole lot better than when i used cheap dollar store markers and pencils. As usual I'd say ohuhu is a win and I love this cheap vs expensive. Peach is so cute.

Still looks good but I agree with you. I grew up asking for art supplies for my birthday and the holidays and every time someone got me a set of cheap markers either thinking they were the same or didn’t care and wanted the cheapest because I was a kid so they didn’t take me seriously. Those things dried out so quickly and just went to waste. 😢

I knew that the Ohuhu Markers would win this battle! But tbh, the kids markers at first watercolors were a little bad but did have, not too bad results. And that's crazy to see something new and challenging, which is... Transferring a digital drawing to paper by taping a sheet of paper to the art tablet and adding the library just like that

Hullo Anthony, I remember when my Gran asked me if I wanted to really paint pictures? (I was 10 years old) She set my first palette up with professional grade watercolors, Grumbacher was the brand and is still a wonderful paint! I will say it is harder to get as it is no longer carried by any local stores! It seems like everything is ordered online these days. Thanks for showing what some of the cheaper tools can do and there are reasons why very inexpensive art supplies exist, as not everyone is going to want to make artworks, but just occupy the time of toddlers er, children. Most accomplished Artists can use any medium to create Art it is their knowledge that makes the difference NOT the medium or tool. If I were going to buy my marker sets I would definitely consider going Ohuhu! Quality has caught up with their price and they are no longer bottom rung supplies!

A new video from you always brightens my day=3 Thank you! Well...regarding kids' art supplies. These days on FB there are tons of ads and sellers, offering cheap alcohol markers for kids. They often just classify them as felt-tip pens, without any indication that these are, actually, alcohol-based. Dirt cheap ones, which you can also get from wish and ali. Bought a set to try, They have a very strong smell I can't stand at all. The quality is also terrible. I dunno what to do with my set. Tons of satisfied comments though. Welp, they tried?=D In that case I'd still buy water-based markers. Safer that way. I also use them for watercolor-y sketches.

The way kids colour is way different than an adult will do. One of the reasons why I do buy children’s markers is because they are washable. With how carefully kids can be, that’s a very big plus. But maybe next time compare a waterbased marker like a Tombow Dual Brush pen against Crayola supertips.

I...honestly have this to say about cheaper art supplies. THE MORE COLORS YOU GET THE BETTER. I was saving for connector pens cus for nostalgia purposes but also because the 20 and 30 packs didnt even have a peach color to work with, it was in the freaking 60 pack. So having more color options on water based markers is very much required. I've seen your other water based marker videos and I'll always prefer the cheaper ones due to their cartoony and dynamic feel. HOWEVER, the expensive ones look more natural and to me is ok albeit a bit..dull if that makes sense. I prefer cheap over expensive but tbh, just use what you have and work around it. Like what Uniqua said in that one backyardigans episode, its not about the board, its about the skater u3u

The thing is, with markers and stuff, the cheap ones are good enough. Most kids are not gonna be that artistic. And it doesnt make too much sense to hand every kid expensive alcohol markers. Let them play around with water based markers and see how they use them and level up as per the child's complaints. Worked for me. I used to rub the water based markers on butter paper and mix that with water and put down a base layer and them make details with color pencils. So the next thing my parents did was buy me some water colors and I expanded in that direction. Then I bought inks and then alcohol inks. I still havent really used alcohol markers. because they be pricey. They tend to dry out and I wanna buy a big-ish batch for when I have some breathing room to be able to draw everyday. Not to mention the pricier things always put me under stress making me feel like I need to use them perfectly, not waste anything and everything better turn out perfect. Always a limiting issue. With cheaper products, all that pressure is off and we can experiment however we like. for kids even a marker per dollar can seem very expensive. plus, I do believe working with "bad" art supplies is a skill everyone should have.

As a mom of three I'd say it depends on the age of the child. Small kids will leave markers open to dry or push too hard and ruin them. But if an older child wants to create art then you might want to invest.

I'd say bugin with the cheaper markers first and then once you or/and your kids are confident and comfortable with drawing then switch to using the slightly more expensive markers. Yes there's a dramatic difference between the two sides but the cheaper side isn't that bad.
