We visited the Kahala a few weeks ago on our first visit to Hawaii. We fell in love with this resort immediately, so much we are booking a stay there next year.

My wife and I stayed there in 1976 on our honeymoon. A fabulous experience, both food and accommodations. We saw Chris Evert (tennis star)Pat Hingle (an actor in many films) and Jim Nabors from The Andy Griffith show. We hope to celebrate our 50th. Anniversary there in 2025 . It was called the Kahala Hilton at that time.

The Kahala Hilton (original name) opened in 1964 and Lyndon Johnson was the first US President to stay there. He did so more than once since he came to Hawaii several times during his presidency for meetings with the president of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Both LBJ and Pres. Nixon who followed him were flown to the hotel by helicopters, which landed on the adjacent Waialae Country Club golf course. That no longer happens; presidents now just get driven around on Oahu, which causes big traffic jams when the H-1 Freeway gets closed for them.

This is not most famous hotel in Hawaii.... it’s actually so under the radar and that is what I like about it. Plus Obama maybe stayed there once. When he was a president he would rent entire Lanikai Beach houses. Love this hotel and the dining there is divine. Overall a nice video. 🤙🏻

And the Pope stay there in the 70’s. Every movie star stayed at the Kalaha Hilton when in Honolulu in the 60’s and 70’s. Security was supreme back then. The ‘Rat Pack’ always booked there and usually got so drunk partying and almost always forgot to tip the servers, but hotel didn’t care.

These dolphins are not able to be in the wild for different reason. The local universities also study them.
