Norway, the official name is the Kingdom of Norway, is a Northern European country and a sovereign state on the Scandinavian Peninsula, with a total area of 385,207 thousand km² (69th place in the world). In addition to the mainland, Norway owns the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard and the island of Jan Mayen on the border of the Greenland and Norwegian seas, Bouvet Island in the South Atlantic.
Norway is a sovereign democratic parliamentary constitutional monarchy with a unitary system. In Norway, state power is divided between the parliament, the king and the Supreme Court, according to the norms of the constitution, which has been in force in the country since 1814, with numerous amendments.
It is one of the oldest still existing kingdoms in the world, having existed continuously for more than 1,100 years. During this period, more than 60 kings and earls replaced the throne of the kingdom. From 1035 to 1814, the kingdom included the Faroe Islands, from 1261 to
Greenland in 1814, Iceland from 1262 to 1814. Until 1661, power in the kingdom belonged to the monarch, after that it was shared with the influential nobility. As of 2017, the population of the country is 5.32 million people (120th place in the world).
