The best way I can describe Uematsu's ps1 work is that it's like the musical equivalent of trapping Tony Stark in a cave and then he builds a mech suit out of sheet metal and scrap. What he did with such limited tools is just incredible. Janky old MIDI samples that would make you wince nowadays in lesser hands, in his, rock just as hard as they did in the 90's -- because he's just that skilled of a writer.

FFVIII is my favorite OST, period. I absolutely love the main title track "Eyes on me". The story behind the making of it, the central theme of the love, the Leitmotif of the melody of eyes on me in many many tracks cements it as one of my favorite gamnig track... and the game has so many other bangers. The amount of quality tracks and the sheer quantity (and variety) of them makes me easily recommend the FFVIII ost whenever i can.

What i feel is even more epic than the music itself is how well is implemented in the game. If you just listen to the osts they are great! But as a player you notice how all of the other sounds (Menu sound effects, swords, punches, guns) all become part of the OST and increase the immersion for the player. And it's crazy cause its all well thought to match the pace of an average player. Some parts of the tracks most people will associate with summoning, or attacking, maybe taking hits. It's insane.
@LadyAselia Жыл бұрын

I love this game. It had the undesirable job of following up the global phenomena FFVII and instead of playing it safe they respectfully chose to get weird with it. This is a game that inspires a fiery hot passion. FFVIII does so much right and it has some massive missteps however there are no other game like it in the series. FFVIII's OST has so many great songs. I can't wait to hear you break down some of my favorites like Maybe I'm a Lion, The Extreme, Fisherman's Horizon, Eyes on Me, or hear you explore the leitmotifs on Succession of Witches, Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec and many others.

If you'd like a basic explanation of the "SeeD" track, it plays whenever the party is being briefed on their latest mission. It first plays when we meet Headmaster Cid, who gives us a brief overview of the physical portion of the final exam before we leave the academy. It also plays on the landing boat your team rides in order to get to their intended target (Balamb is on an island roughly in the middle of the map, in the northern half of the map), where the field commander gives us the details of the mission - the "Republic" (read: People's Republic - ergo, something akin to China) of Galbadia has invaded the nearby Dollet Dukedom for unknown reasons, and along with 9 professional members of SeeD 4 teams of students are being sent in to drive the Galbadian forces out, although the 9 professionals do the brunt of the work. The goal of this 'exam' is to judge both the ability of the students in combat as well as their capability of fulfilling their assignments to the specifications laid out by their superiors (which, if you know anything about the military, is so that the different squadrons work like a well-maintained machine rather than having groups of rowdy cowboys running around doing whatever they think is right and getting in each others' way), which is why the captain of our squad fails the exam while we and our squadmate pass, as it is the squad captain's responsibility to make sure orders are followed correctly, not ignored for opportunities of fame and glory. I could talk HOURS about FFVIII, but I'll leave this off here. If you have any questions about any other tracks, let me know.

Right it's probably been said already or something, perhaps later in the live's chat. But 7:40 , it's the theme for "Balamb Garden University" the Garden part here mostly reffer to the fact that it's an university to raise "SeeDs" of hope and the future. It's meant to raise elite soldiers that would fight and defeat Witches that can basically dominate the world. All in all the garden part doesn't have much to do with the ost more so than the "university" part, as, it's clearly a very university part, specially the start that goes like a school bell ringing of sort. People hate on blue field, but honestly its a great ost, specially some remixs of people adding in wind and stuff in the back. Its really an ost of traveling accross the lands of fields upon fields. Aaaah yes. SeeD. Such an amazing ost. One of the only FF ost to give you such a strong militaristic, briefing vibe. You're in on your first mission as a new SeeD recruit. And you're beeing given a briefing on the comming mission. It's not something big, but not small either. (Gonna update this on the go/after sleep(and therefor finishing to watch this xD))
