Excellent practical teaching. Living to please God is holiness. Set apart for God. Did you look up the word fear? It's Phobos and means terror. Nothing about being reverential. Rewards and punishment are great motivators to encourage us to good works. Due to the negative teaching on works many have an aversion to teaching which encourages good works. Jesus' teachings in Matthew on his return and his dealing with the lazy certainly shows he will deal harshly with them. The foolish virgins found the door shut, the person who received one talent and did nothing with it was cast into outer darkness, and the ones who do not minister to the Lord's brethren are assigned everlasting punishment. The holy life is a result of intimate communion with God. Today I live my life to please God. I cry out for his help. Moment by moment I look to him intentionally for direction. By and through the Spirit. They that worship me must worship in Spirit and truth. Hide his word in our hearts. Once we encounter the sweetness of the Holy Spirit we will be addicted to worship. He leads us to the Father and speaks to us of Jesus. Lord let our lives reflect what we believe. Help us surrender all that is displeasing to you. Help all who are struggling with sins they feel are so bad that they are ashamed to confess. You have given victory to whosoever will. Come in your glory remind us it is finished. Whoever comes to you you will never cast out. Thank you for this teaching

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (November 17), this was the basis for our Sunday School Lesson for the Day. It was entitled "Faith That Is Focused." The beloved hymn, "O Holy Spirit, Enter In," written by Michael Schirmer (1606-1673) and translated by Catherine Winkworth (1827-1878), is a good hymn to compliment this Scripture, regardless of denomination.

People always demote Peter, Did any other apostle get out of The Boat and walk to Jesus? When Peter said "I will never abandon you", so said they all. Often Peter had the Guts to voice what others didn't.

Who does that? What people? No, the Bible say's only Peter got out of the boat. So it could be said, the others stood in the boat, like they should of. I didn't know Peter had the guts to do that. What translation is that in? That's what i like about the Bible someone always sees something others can't.
