I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (May 14, Easter 5), this was our New Testament Lesson (or Epistle) of the Day. Bear in mind that when Peter wrote this, Jesus had risen from the dead and had ascended back into Heaven. And if there was ever a big turnaround in the Bible, Peter had to be it. The disciple that often wound up with his foot in his mouth and who denied Jesus 3 times now takes a stand, even though as Jesus said, it would eventually cost him his life.
