I've been making this mistake ever since barriers got nerfed and are easier to shred since I use all my ammo on it don't realize it and land a great hook only to just melee lol

Tip to go along with this, as soon as Roadhog slams scrap into the gun during a reload, melee to cut off the rest of the animation and get back to fighting a second or two sooner I now this sounds stupid, but this has seriously saved me from being killed multiple times in game

And another tip from me: When you hook a high health target like hog or sig, don’t melee after you hook, and the melee will only kill 1/10 times. Just fire a second shot, as it will kill much faster.

Another tip for fighting zenyatta: don’t be afraid to engage him, he has no escape ability, so it isn’t risky to chase him down. Taking out just one healer can cripple a whole team

An alternate tip for ball is to stay directly under him when he is about to smash down since hooking him would be extremely easier due to him going down in a straight line.

Another small but useful tip against D.Va and more importantly Sigma is while they are using their absorb abilities, instead of waiting for the ability to finish, use melee to get some damage in. Instead of staring at Sigma's toes next time, slap him in the knees with your hook.

WAIT. Take a Breather has ACTUAL damage reduction? I assumed it just looked like damage reduction because of the way the game calculates damage.

It's 50% damage reduction. So that's why the tip for Sigma's ult is how it is... Let's create this scenario where you're Sig ulted and you're at 450 HP. If you do not self-heal while falling down, you will take 300 damage and you are left at 150 HP, self-healing after the damage has been taken will take you back up to 450 HP. If you're 450 HP and Sig ulted, and you self-heal right when you're about to be dragged down, instead of taking 300 damage, you'll take 150 damage (50% damage reduction for Take-A-Breather), and you'll be at 300 HP when you land. Then, you self-heal up to 600 HP (+150 HP from the other situation.) It's important to note that the Take-A-Breather damage reduction applies right when you use the ability, not when you're healing, so you don't need to time burst damage with exactly when you gain HP from the ability.

Tip: don’t heal in sig ult, hook him out to help everyone

that tip is obviously just for if you miss hook, don't have an opportunity to use it (sig moves behind cover), or hook is on CD. by now, most sigmas will wait out or bait out the important stuns before ulting - for example, brig bash, doom punch, and even cree/cass stun aren't too important to be mindful of, but hog hook and sig rock are. waiting out sig rock is especially important if they're running orisa sigma double shield because the pull-rock combo easily counters sig ult

More tips. Vs D.Va, you can hook baby D.Va as she is re-meching while she's in the animation and it cancels it, preventing her from re-meching. Vs. Sigma, if he ults you (or you + anyone on your team), if you have hook up, you can hook him while everyone is in the air and it will cancel his ult channel it before he slams everyone down. Vs. Baptiste, with good secondary fire spacing, it only takes 2 shots from 2ndary fire (if you space the blast to detonate point-blank with the generator) to kill it very quickly and bait the enemy team into walking into it anyway thinking they're safe General tip: If you hook someone that isn't one-shottable with your combo (even with a preemptive primary/secondary shot), just don't melee. Continue using the scrap gun, because the recovery time after melee to be able to fire again is MUCH longer than the time it takes for a 2nd shot to come out. I kill bastions like this most often. Two primary shots come out a lot faster than a shot -> melee, and if the melee doesn't kill you have a long time to wait before you can fire again.
