Nothing about this synth sounds like FM. It doesn't sound bad, it just sounds like 2 oscillators. The op1 FM engine has algorithms and feedback etc, and it sounds much more interesting to me.

TE says it’s an FM synth in the manual 🤷. It def doesn’t let you tweak ratios and algos the same way as the fm synth on the op-1f 😭

Totally agree with you. I'll be honest and say I still don't fully understand algorithm control of FM like on the OP-1F or Digitone. I have yet to be able to know what knobs to turn when I think of a sound I want, like you can do with substractive synthesis. Currently going through the original Yamaha DX7 manual for help so I may be missing something with Axis. But I like the OP-1 field FM much better. Actually, I like most of the OP-1F synth engines better. (Hmmm, I wonder if there's a marketing strategy at work here.)
