Wonderful study. It really COMFORTED me! 1 Corinthians 15:52 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. It is so interesting to hear that the world did not have a god who comforted. There was even gods of the underworld, but not one who gave comfort. No wonder the world has no peace. As these gods (demons) return, the chaos begins. More and more unrest and violence. Still praying for your voice. Thank you for your lesson. The comforting shepherd and comfort like a mother is the best gift.

Excellent study, Dr. Bagwell! Really enjoy these lessons. "Wherefore"/ὥστε/hōste. This is a conjunction and it co-joins. It links this verse with the previous verses. The Thessalonians were sorrowing over the death of their loved ones. The 2nd coming had not occurred and they are worried about their dead loved ones. Paul tells them that their loved ones will not be left out. "Comfort"/παρακαλέω/parakaleō. As a verb, it is used 108 times in our New Testament. It is translated "beseech" 43 times, "exhort" 21 times, "desire" 8 times, "pray" 6 times, "entreat" 3 times and "comfort" 23 times. It means to call someone to one's self. You go by someone, and you are called to their side. They put their arms around you and hug you. In Greek usage, this word is presented in these ways: to summon help. The Holy Ghost is our comforter if we are saved. He is summoned to help us. It also means to gather tools for a job. The Holy Spirit gives us every tool we need for every situation in life. It also means to stir up a flame. Don't let your fire go out. It also means to retain as a legal advisor. Jesus Christ is our advocate or lawyer. Why do we need a lawyer? Because the Bible tells us that Satan is our accuser. We need a lawyer to represent us, and Jesus Christ is our advocate. It also was used to summon a physician. We need the Great Physician in the Lord Jesus Christ. He will give us the medicine we need. It is also used in a military context. A man would come by to encourage the troops who were facing a big battle the following day. The devil will try to sow discord and doubt among God's troops. What is the Hebrew parallel to the Greek word for "comfort"? It is nacham. It means to comfort, to console, to soothe. Nahum springs from this word. A prophet is a comforter. If you preach the Book the Bible will comfort and help others. "Noah" means "rest" and is distantly related to this word. See Gen. 5:29. This is the first time that nacham is used as "comfort". See Gen. 24:67. Isaac brought Rebeccah into his mother's tent, and the Bible says Isaac was comforted after his mother's desk. "Nacham" can also mean to cheer up. Cheer up and don't be sad. Don't be dragging your feet and become pessimistic. In the Greek/Roman world (heathen world), the whole idea of comfort and ministering to those who are sad never included their gods and goddesses. They had no god that was a god of comfort. Why? Because their gods and goddesses were incapable of comfort. All their gods did is bribe, lie, steal, covet etc. We have a God of comfort. See 2 Cor. 1. He is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. They Bible asks death where his sting is and where his victory is? Jesus took that from Him. Our bodies are placed in the ground temporarily and one day we will be changed to be like Him. All death will be is simply crossing the river. The heathen think of death as an extinguished torch, a broken column, a flogged rose, a winged hourglass etc. They did not believe in the doctrine of the resurrection. They believed you were buried, placed in the ground, decomposed and become fertilizer. They believed little daisies would grow from your fertilization. Our bodies will be planted a corruptible body and Jesus will return and raise it as in incorruptible body. God knows what He is doing, and death and life are in His hands. There are two different pictures in Scripture about comforting: the shepherd and the mother. See Isa. 40:11. God says He will feed His flock like a shepherd and gather His flock in His arms. See Isa. 66:13. God says as one whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you. "One another"/ἀλλήλων/allēlōn/another of the same kind. There are 50 plus things we Christians are to be doing to one another listed in the New Testament: love one another, kindly affectioned to one another, preferring one another, serve one another, confess your faults one to another, pray one for another, receive ye one another, be of the same mind one toward another, bear ye one another's burdens, forgiving one another, same care one for another, consider one another, tarry for one another, do not judge one another, do not provoke one another to envy, don't devour one another etc. Loved this study, Dr. Bagwell! Thank you so much for the time you place into these lessons!
