I have just bought a 2015 gtd, its being prepared now. I've watched your videos and they are very helpful thanks. Keep up the good work.

I agree with you about the oil temperature and 4k revs in a mk7 Gtd is definitely the optimum time to change gear. 👍

The oil temperature thing is vital. I wish more cars & bikes had an oil temperature gauge. But I would say it's not as critical to be within 5-10 degrees. If nominal temperature is 88, then anything over 70-75 will be OK. Modern synthetic oils are engineered specifically to avoid huge viscosity changes with temperature. That's why they're "multi grade". The SAE curve has some wild variation built into it for every grade, which modern oils don't exhibit. You mentioned limit points, I have a couple more things to add: 1. Weight transfer. It's a thing that happens any time you accelerate in any direction (incl. cornering & braking). If you're about to have a bit of fun, you should work with it, not against it. Most of the time that translates into smooth, progressive control inputs that allow time for weight transfer to take place before you overload the tyre. That's how you can get the most grip. It also gets you a better feel for what your machine is doing. 2. Surface hazards. Much less critical in a car, but if you're near the limit a bunch of leaves in a bend can still send you into the ditch, so it's worth keeping your eyes peeled.

Agree on the points made in this video, with mine being a DSG the risk of over revving when the car is cold is reduced but I still keep an eye on the oil temp before stretching its legs - especially when joining a motorway.

I drive an ep3 type r so changing gears is slightly different as you can bang it off the limiter all you want

Oil temperature is crucial, if you want to look after your engine. I have oil temp permanently displayed on my Octavia vRS and never nail it until it hits 80. Always let a turbo engine idle for a minute before you turn it off too.

Let a turbo engine idle before turning it off? What year is it, 1987?

My A3 2.0 diesel has had a dodgy coolant stat for years so my oil temp normally reads 67 or thereabouts never gets to 90, gets booted hard still tho…

That will eventually kill the engine with from a cracked block, the rapid heating/cooling from high/low load on the engine will cause a cracked block, it’s also constantly on a cold “map” so it will be very sore on fuel. Replace the thermostat, it’s essential.

Good boot for diesel is good every soo often my gtd is great all rounder uses drop of oil every few 1000 miles but I can live with that 1l in boot at all times

"When you start out in your car the oil temperate is going to be 0" No, it's going to be whatever the ambient temperate is. On your second 0-60 you stopped just after a corner which is not ideal.

Part of the oil burning issue unfortunately. Really great car, ruined by a flawed engine.
