What I am a little worried about is, that Valve apparently stopped producing anything for the Ligthouse system; the base stations and the Knuckles. Also: what game was that at 28:30?
@ThisKoryАй бұрын
Yeah that's a bummer, at least they're still being manufactured by other companies. It seems we will continue to get more VR products from Valve with their latest leaks for the new controllers, which is nice. That game was Automobilista 2 😁🏎️
@xXYannuschXxАй бұрын
@@ThisKory Yeah, I put away money already for the next Valve VR set. But sadly it seems it wont be an "Index 2" but rather a "VR Steamdeck". Dont get me wrong, I love the idea, but it seems they completely move away from lighthouse tracking (despite the 2022 leaks of lighthouse 3.0) and the finger tracking Knuckles. I still hope that the leaks arent complete and they do make higher end controllers and tracking solutions. Is HTC now making the base stations? At least those will still be made then. But we wont have the Knuckles sadly and the Vive Wands are... well they suck :D Thanks, will check it out.

I don't understand - why do we have to choose between 1920p at 90 hz and 2560p and 75 hz, if it's the PC doing the computations, not the goggles?
@ThisKoryАй бұрын
It's a data bandwidth limitation with the cable from my understanding. VR pushes 2 displays, it's insanely high resolution, and it just can't push the data to perform at higher refresh rates.
@charlesturner897Ай бұрын
Assuming the displays are 10-bit, 1920x1920 90Hz is 10Gb/s, bump that to 2560x2560 90Hz and it's 19Gb/s. Both require compressing the signal with DSC but 2560 90Hz will need it compressing almost twice as much, and I would guess the quality was just too poor. Either that or the chipset in the headset (the headset has to decompress and drive the displays) couldn't handle 19Gb/s (remember this is just for 1 screen)
@alfiegordon9013Ай бұрын
@@charlesturner897iirc it was the display controller in the headset, couldn't handle the bandwidth You'd think that for 1000 dollars they could use a better one but apparently they already aren't making great margins on it so fair enough
@lifelesshawk5725Ай бұрын
It’s a limitation with the display port bandwidth, rather than a hardware or software restriction of the device itself. The image actually goes through a lossless compression so that you can even get 2560x2560 75hz at all. Only way to increase it, would be with a new display port standard, think usb 2 to usb 3 Disappointing, but with it being OLED the latency is roughly 10-30 times faster than traditional OLED, so the display will have the newest image possible vs led which might be much further off making it feel much smoother on the OLED than led despite led being refreshed many more times in a second than OLED. Doesn’t change that it’s only 75 hz, but you don’t notice nearly as bad as you would’ve with LED

In response to the "glare" bit at 15 minutes, I have a theory that this actually comes from the screen light hitting our eyes, and then bouncing back onto the screen, which you can then see as a glare or discoloration on the lens., awesome video, I wish I could afford one haha

@ThisKoryАй бұрын
I almost choked reading that last sentence 🤣 You must ask them for a thin gasket, as thin as they can get it. If it is too thin, you can purchase tiny 3x1mm or 3x2mm magnets to add them to the gasket as spacers. That being said, I believe you get one free gasket adjustment - don't quote me on this. My first gasket I had comfort issues with, so when I had mine adjusted I requested it to be as thin as they could get it. Hit them up on the Bigscreen Beyond Discord server, they have a solid support team over there.

@@ThisKory agree. That is the thing with me. I play war thunder anywhere from sometimes 2 to 4 hours with a quest three. Well the game looks great and everything is all hunky-dory. The next strain from having what feels like a 5 pound weight strapped 2 inches from my face just kills me. I can feel it in my neck all the time. One of the reasons I am considering this headset. The lower field of view stinks, but having something that weighs like 80% less than the index was slightly less field of view, but nearly 2,000,000 more density and higher resolution with O lead and a custom fit definitely speaks to me. The only thing that would annoy me is if the IPD and the cushion weren’t right the first time you know, I guess it could take what? Four or five months from the time I first hit order until I get it right?

16:23 its kinda true, sadly. OLED kinda makes it "like you are there" or "like you are looking through the window to a different world" Even fu****g og HTC VIve seems weirdly realistic because of those blacks and reaction time maybe? Same with old headsets with oled like Samsung odyssey +, or PSVR 2, even tho they have their cons, the image is weirdly realistic in a way.
@NicoGamezАй бұрын
after using a windows mixed reality headset as my first vr headset for the longest time, and then switching to the original htc vive after microsoft decided to kill off wmr, I experienced OLED VR for the first time, and I was so blown away by how good the colors looked, that I don't mind the lower resolution and more noticable screendoor effect at all! OLED is just simply way too good, and I was kinda dissapointed when I was looking for future headset upgrades to consider, and then finding out that there's pretty much no headsets with OLED screens apart from the vive pro 1, the bigscreen beyond and the psvr2. I was kind of out of the loop with VR until after I bought the vive, because I was fine with my wmr headset for the most part, so I didn't really keep up with vr headset releases, so I assumed the vr market advanced enough to where most headsets have high resolution and high refresh rate OLED screens nowadays, but it seems I assumed wrong
@ThisKoryАй бұрын
Yeah it'll sure be nice when OLED displays become the norm. They're beautiful to look at in and out of VR.
@ihavestds394Ай бұрын
oled screens aren't the norm yet because of it's absolutely ludicrous price and the terrible nit conversion (it's like 5000 thousand nits to whatever the beyond has which is around 100 lol), which makes it impractical for vr headsets like the quest 3 which would probably have to be over a thousand to have oled screens
@Dub3God7 күн бұрын
@@ihavestds394 surprisingly you’re incredibly mistaken. Wow if you consider something like that on like a TV screen, sure. But when you have a 100% sealed VR headset with no light bleed, no windows behind you and your family room, all of a sudden it’s not as big deal as you make it out to be. You’re entitled to your own opinion, but not your own set of facts.

26:40 wait wait wait, how did they give you the wrong IPD with their face scan tech? also how did you know it was wrong?
@ThisKoryАй бұрын
Sometimes things are not perfect, especially when ordering something that's custom built for your face. For most people they'll get the correct setup, but some might need some adjustments. This should be expected for a custom design, sometimes it's trial and error to get things right. I knew my facial gasket wasn't comfortable immediately, and too thick. The IPD I knew was not right as I tested it by lining up one eye perfectly center and then closing that eye and seeing if the other eye is aligned. There are methods you can use to find these issues. Since my original order I know they made improvements to the way they create facial gaskets (they're much smoother, and much more balanced with pressure on your face), so perhaps they've improved their face scan tech to better match IPD as well. Either way, it was a fairly quick fix.

@ThisKory11 күн бұрын
That final question only you can answer. I am going to be honest, the first week or two with my Beyond I felt nervous because I wasn't totally convinced that the Beyond was good enough to justify the cost. The glare might be jarring at first, especially if you've only ever used a Quest 3 because that has very minimal glare. After a couple weeks using it I realized what the Beyond can do with its high res OLED displays, and it's awesome. There's pros and cons to every VR headset, and the Beyond definitely isn't perfect, but what it does is amazing and I am very happy with it and do not regret my purchase at all. Hope this helps 😁 I'm curious what your thoughts are when you receive yours, and what your thoughts are a couple weeks after using it.

@ I bought mine and didn’t know I needed a base. I don’t want to wait a week for a base and I can’t find anyone with one in my area. The guy I bought the beyond from never used it and had my IPD and his face shape was similar to mine and fits great but I’m going to get it readjusted. He told me I didn’t need a base and I bought it today and got rid of my quest 3 prior and now I can’t race in my sim event sigh.
@2jzwho11 күн бұрын
@ also I was told by so many people you can get the IPD replaced and the eye cushion for free. Now support is saying I have to pay which is annoying but nothing I can do 🤷♂️.
@ThisKory11 күн бұрын
Yes, you need at least 1 base station to use the Beyond, for tracking. You can get an adjustment for free - I did at least, but I also purchased mine new, and had comfort issues so the adjustment was necessary. Since you bought yours used, I'd imagine these luxuries to have an adjustment done for free are not part of the deal, unfortunately. To be fair, most companies will not honor used product replacements, as proof of purchase is necessary. Research is important, especially when investing in a custom device like the Beyond. I'm sure you can get things sorted out with your facial gasket, but if a new IPD is needed, you may be out of luck since you bought it used. Definitely reach out to support via Discord, they have a good team working there to help, and if you're upfront then maybe an IPD adjustment can be done, but you'll probably be paying for shipping and the cost of the facial gasket adjustment as well. Good luck, and godspeed!

Great video, I agree with your point on brightness, many people are having their first in depth experience with OLEDs without realizing how much more light is seen on LCD panels plus the extra darkness from the face seal. Do you have prescription lenses? Haven't seen anyone review them yet. Just ordered the B.S.Beyond and the option for prescription lenses was one of the major selling points for someone with poor eyesight. Without wearing contacts things in VR look blurry even if the displays are good. For years I thought the Valve Index was overrated because I never thought about visual depth of field for displays an inch from my eyes. Tried it with contacts and had a second awakening in VR. But contacts are a pain to use and it makes VR this big process of getting ready just to play VR instead of just grabbing the headset and controllers and playing.
@ThisKoryАй бұрын
I've been using the VR ROCK prescription lenses - which do have you needing to adjust the facial interface to be a bit thicker (with magnet spacers) since the lenses push your eyes away from the lenses a bit, so you lose some FOV. I'd imagine the ones you can purchase directly from BB to be on par. They look very similar, but seem to be a bit more expensive. I have a link in the description to the VR ROCK lenses, if you're interested.

@ThisKoryАй бұрын
If you're constantly smashing into things while using VR then you're doing something wrong haha 😂 There are tons of ways to prevent this, from in-VR software like play space boundaries, center markers, and even sounds and alerts when you get to the edge of your play space, to small rugs you can put on the ground IRL to make sure you stay where you need to be. There are many things you can do to prevent the issue of smashing into things. Sit down in a swivel chair while you become accustomed to VR so you don't go running into walls head first haha. I don't think durability for the VR headset is a concern, and you should be concerned about fixing the issue of smashing into things in the first place 😅 Any VR headset is susceptible to breaking if smashed into a wall..

Switching from a dim display headset to a normal brightness one will blow your mind, that all the same game levels you thought were rendered as late evening are actually mid day, just your headset were rendering those way too dark. This is exactly how switching to a Quest Pro felt like, the one headset having really bright displays and good black too. Switching to the Quest 3 will not make a difference because screens are barely more brighter and all you notice are just those washed out colors.

Thank you! I believe it is the Kiwi strap for the Quest 3, I took the back piece from that and simply stuck it on - it's velcro, you can easily remove the default sponge piece. I'm glad someone noticed this 😅 you have a keen eye!

@@ThisKory You def need to make people aware of this, this is a great tip. If there is one complaint I can make about the audio strap, its that awful sponge but the velcro at least makes it possible that we replace it with something better.

It'll be something I mention in my Beyond Audio Strap review for sure. It's definitely nice to have a hygienic option to easily wipe clean. I had the original pad on for a whole 5 minutes before removing it and replacing it with better pads 😅
