Loved this plant spotlight deep dive! I got my el choco red about 4 months ago and it is absolutely stunning! The leaves are so so gorgeous and velvety and it has the coolest backside and deep red cataphyll. We are in the dead of winter here so I’m anxious for the spring and the growing season although it seems happy and is sizing up decently now. I loved the slow-mo montage! So funny!

That is genius,growing a small plant and upgrade to a tall moss pole. I made a small ‘moss pole’ out of a coke bottle to grow a Variegated Monstera. Adonsonii cutting,and I didn’t know how I was going to put it on a tall moss pole,now I know! Thanks Jan. I had an idea of how to help roots attach better on moss poles where they need extra help,I found that pins pop out and don’t push the node in enough,what about wrapping a grafting tape around the node and the pole to tighten it? Love that El Chico,it’s stunning,you said you gave some to your ‘ friends’, well I thought we were BFF, Pffff,I don’t remember getting one! 🤣🤣🤣 As always 💚 Natalie

Wonderful growth on this plant !!!! As always, your videos do not disappoint. Made me want to aquire one, which I just received today. I do have one question, if you have time to answer. If not, I understand completely. The one I received has quite red / darkish roots and I can see yours are white. As a very concerned plant parent, I don't know if that's normal or if I should repot it in a week or so ( in a nice and chunky aroid mix, what else ) to give it time to acclimate and not shock it too much... Thanks for sharing all your work ( mixes, advices, experiences with all those beauties ) it really motivate one to try and make one's plants as happy as yours :)

The Internodal spacing of your el choco red is much larger than mine and I’m in Canada in the winter indoors. I wonder if it has to be based on maturity or because it’s tissue culture. The spacing is super tight like the size of the width of my finger and has been in the same pole for over 2 years.
@sydneyplantguy9 ай бұрын
Could be due to tissue culture but most likely it's a maturity thing. As the plant matures is will have smaller internodal spacing. Semi-epiphytes start their journey on the forest floor when they are younger & then climb up a tree & mature. To get higher up in the tree to get more light it makes sense to grow with large internodal spacing first.
