This was so nice to listen to! Similarly I moved to a new country in Europe from Nigeria around the same time you did. While, we of course have different experiences, I am excited that my challenges and growth mirror yours. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be able to experience new things. I am also glad that as a Nigerian you tried to buck the unfortunate reputation we have abroad and Lithuania is really fortunate to have you within its borders!

Thank you for sharing your story. Congrats on completing one year, more to come! We are also thinking of moving to Lithuania (as I’m Lithuanian). My wife is from Jamaica also has so many of the same concerns as you: weather, being away from family, language. I’ll use you as an example that it’s entirely possible to make a living there 🙂 I’m sure it’s not easy but it seems like you adapted quite well and thankfully you’re showing people that many Nigerians are honest, good people.

Speaking of weather, we have this old anecdote: A guy from Africa comes to live to Lithuania, after a year he goes back to his village. Everyone gathers around. "How was it, how's life there?" -"Ah it's all good, the house, the food, I like it. One thing though, they have two winters - the green one that I can live with, and the white one which is just impossible!" :)
@AmarachiNzekwe4 жыл бұрын
😀😀😀 I have only gotten to experience the green one fully. Hopefully this year, I get a proper white one 😊

my mother, once in 1996, the first African to teach Lithuanian in Lithuania. Then Lithuania was a dangerous place for everyone. As I remember his name now, it was a young cheerful young man from Nigeria. which can be called African Columbus in Lithuania (He discovered this young nascent state and started learning the language) I remember it because he visited us for a while. And no one except my mom spoke English. She is a teacher. And that guy managed to settle here, find a job (if I remember correctly, worked in a flower shop). I don't know how this life happened, but I know that even then people loved it for its eternal positive. He was able to inspire people to enjoy simple things.

Super cool to hear about your experience in LT. It seems like you have such a positive mental attitude and it's great to see! Every time I come to visit Vilnius, it seems there are more black people hear and it makes me very happy to see. Coming from growing up in London (albeit being white) i remember being shocked how un-diverse the population was in LT when i first came to visit 8 years ago (although of course now i know this is the case all over eastern europe). Although this country has a long way to go, I hope that Lithuania continues to grow and embrace diversity! Massive congrats on reaching your goal of 1k subs...almost at 2k now!
