@@dawnmurphy7488 I don't live in a tent neither (I do when I go camping)! But the size is so small that I thought it should be able to be powered by Big power bank (Jackery, Big Blue...etc that have 200 watt +) in a tent. Thanks anyway, I'm sure I can find out of this particular model when I research at LG.

I wish I had found your video sooner! I bought an LG 6000, but your instructions are better for my unit than what I found from LG. Your adapters look just like mine. I found the hardest part was threading the adapters onto the flexible hose at both ends. I really wanted to watch someone do this, and that is what I value the most about your video, but it is all excellent. I'm a 68-year-old woman, so lifting a window style A/C in and out for the seasons was not an option for me. The LG I bought does come with security latches. I loved what you did with the foam insulation. My central air outside fan stopped spinning, so I replaced the capacitor, but that did not fix it, so this was an affordable alternative. It will be nice to have a backup, even after I get the central air fixed. Thanks for this! Great job!

Do these cool a room well. My central ac has a refrigerant leak in its suction hose and won't hold any refrigerant at all and the ac tech said that they would need to run a new suction line through attic and they want 1200 dollars to do that. So I'm asking you if these kinds of a portable acs do actually cool a room well? Thanks in advance

@@AaronHatcher Yes they do cool a room and they are a lot cheaper to run. Go to Big Lots and buy the sun blocking curtains they have two pair in a package for $20-$25 which work great to shield the sun. I have these curtains throughout and I have a fan blowing from the living room where the window unit is into the hallway which keeps the first floor nice and cool.

I bought one in April '22 as well because I knew this year was going to be HOT. Mine is a Toshiba, and the Black and Decker appears to be a rebadged Toshiba. Everything is the same including the remote, except the control buttons on the unit are colored differently for the B&D branding. It cools a room well enough, but forget about sleeping in that room when its on. Its LOUD.

remember, the fan and compressors are LOUD, when i was at this house tent place for 2 days it had an ac, it didnt cool the tent well enough, because no insulation, the air handler is quiet but the evaporater is buzzy, whenever my parents ac is on the outside unit is super quiet, Samsung, if there ever a samsung portable ac, maybe its compressor will be more quiet

I’ve had Toshiba, Black&Decker, and Midea. The Midea wins out by far. Something about that hose, it intakes from the outside instead of the room. Keeps our 400sq ft master room at 63degrees all night in the Texas heat. My central air was costing too much for the entire upper floor. This works faster and costs less.

My unit is a Black and Decker 12,000BTU and I love it! I have central AC but use this to save electricity (1000w vs 2300w). Portability is the main MAIN reason I bought a...portable unit. I could run mine in a tent if I needed to. I have a small house (1200sqf) and this makes most of the house comfortable, with the living room getting cold. Fans do the job and use 120w combined. My goal is also to use this when they play shenanigans this coming summer here in Kalifornia with power. I have 7200 w of battery storage so I can run this 3/4 of the day, allowing for recharging via sun and duel-fuel generator.
@darrenbrooks7108

@@darrenbrooks7108 For sure likely if you wanted to get to a fairly cold level. My central AC stays on for hours due to poor insulation in this pre-1975 house. This portable unit stays on much of the day to maintain a comfortable level of coolness when the outside temp is below 85 degrees. My main use is for power outages. Kalifornia will have more brown outs and blackouts this year.

@@marksmith5468 I have a portable generator that I plug into the house wiring with a generator outlet and lockout switch that disconnects the main outside power first. This is the only safe and legal way to do it. With LED lights your home draws very little once the A/C, stove, water heater and dryer are not running. You can be very comfortable, use the microwave and refrigerator too. a battery unit would run for an hour or two max and a generator can be had for the same money or less. Mine would use less than 5 gallons a day and five, five gallon cans are plenty for any events.

I wrapped the exhaust hose up with an insulated cover. You do not feel any heat coming from the unit any longer. It was a great investment. If I bought again I would invest in a 10 or 12k btu bc I like moving it around to larger rooms. Fans do the trick in the meantime. Good review.

Toshiba makes one identical to that but the tube you do not have to thread in its already got a ring attachment that Clips on to the attachment that Clips onto the air conditioner and when you want to take it down or out it dismantles very quick and easy by just pushing on the clips with a hose connection in hose dismantles everything comes off and you can put it up for the season and comes with remote timer sleep mode and you can't angle your vent electronically with the remote or why it runs it remotely goes back and forth on its own so it's not just facing the one direct Direction it goes up and down towards the ceiling back towards waist level so you can either have it on one set angle or you can let it run on its own and it blows back and forth from the ceiling all the way down to waist level check it out it's a really good machine

I wonder why this guy is complaining about not having a window unit when this portable unit is specifically made to move around! The window units are stationary… They are completely different categories of machines. It’s almost like eating an apple and complaining that you’re not eating an orange… Get the orange if you want it! These units are almost perfect for what they do. The maker of this video was complaining about this portable unit with its compressor inside which make the unit work harder because of the extra heat…so? Bottom line: if taken care of these machines will last 5 to 10+ years without any problems. These are absolutely solid machines and they’re work horses! They will run forever. And the best part is they will quickly cool a 500-700 square foot room (depending on BTU model) with a comparable quality of a modern luxury hotel room. And that’s not an exaggeration!

Also, I put the AC on a stand where the exhaust hose is completely horizontal and short with no bends at all, this makes the heat to escape quickly. I'm puzzle the manufacture can't think of this problem and do something about it.

Another drawback is that it actually sucks hot air into your house or apartment. A window unit has two fans, one to suck air from the room through a filter, and then through the cooling fins, and then blow it back into your room. The other fan is outside the building, and it blows outside air through the fins that are dissipating the heat from inside. But the Black and Decker sucks cooled air from inside the room and blows it outside. It creates a negative pressure inside, and so air from outside will be sucked into your place through any way it can get in. Plus, the hose also gets warm and radiates heat into the room. However, I have been using one to cool my entire apartment and it blows hella cold air, and is keeping my place cool despite the 100+ temps outside.

I insulated the hose on mine it got really hot defeating the ac ability.. I mean hot..The single hose unit is garbage. why? It only vents air to the outside..So what you say. well that air must be made up somehow.. It sucks the hot air into home thru doors electrical outlets.It creates a negative air balance.. I read manufactures web sites they STATED it doesnt workwell in high heat their words go read.. I had a big unit, fan was amazing..but it sucked all the hot outside air into room . They are costly ineffiecent.. they do not work.. I put a 12000 btu in window smaller capacity then portable and it cools my entire apartment.. Like the portable never ever could.. I tried to give it away no takers its heavy.. Forensic analysis..OK.. It has a pump on bottom of unit to release water over coils to help cool unit. Mine was rusty and full of yuckies dust slime etc.. Its a BAD design..It must be cleaned out..but its on the bottom unit must be fully disassembled.. Almost impossible to accomplish without damage..Soo many screws its insane.. The bottom tray that holds water at pump also get clogged with see above.. Hindering its performance.. I paid 800 bucks for mine.. 350 for my window unit.. That actually performes excellant.. Window units do not blow air outside they recirculate room air. On the cold side..The hotside it well outside not effecting inside air balances.. Upon my forensic analysis these things are junk.. READ manufactures disclaimer doesnt work in hot weather?? I read it too late the fool I be. 2 hose might work but why use it when a window unit blows it away.. Dont have to drain condensate bucket.. really cold air..No hot unit in room creating more heat.. I hope this helps someone not fall into the trap.. I was pissed at how dirty the unit was and not cleanable means junk.. I clean my dehumidifier it gets dirty coils lasted 12 years.. Have a nice day..

There's really only one thing to consider when buying these, and that is the SACC rating, or Seasonally Adjusted Cooling Capacity rating. For best results, divide the BTU's by 30, and this gives you the square footage for best results. I install flex duct over the hose, or hoses, to eliminate heat radiating back into the room.

@@hanakogane2234 SACC ratings apply to all portable AC's. Maybe the problem for some is the belief in the common myth that dual hose models always outperform single hose models. Dual hose models have their own inefficiencies. You have 2 hoses radiating heat into the space you're trying to cool instead of just one. You're also using much hotter outside air to cool the condenser than the cooled air inside the room. And two hoses has the potential for more air gaps, or leaks in the block off plate.
@hanakogane2234
@hanakogane2234 2 жыл бұрын
@@dh2392 I honestly can't stop laughing. Have you ever bothered at reading the comments on the video you got your information from? It is all false information. It is a fact that a dual hose will always out-perform a single hose, the reason to why is, is because a dual hose simulates what an actual window AC does. It uses outside air to it self, That it is less effective to cool itself doesn't really effect to keeping your room cold, only 1 tube still gets warm and the other tube is room temp. Leaks and gabs doesn't effect a lot. Also a single tube is flawed since the hot air it blows out comes back into the room. A dual hose SACC rating is almost always equal to ASHRAE rating. Also a single hose AC uses more than two times the WATT/Energy of a Dual hose AC, therefore a Dual Hose AC is always and always better.

The biggest problem with these single-exhaust units is that whatever air is blowing out, the same amount of air is being sucked in from elsewhere in the house. So during summer you are sucking in hot outside air somewhere else in the house. Other parts of the house will get warmer from the outside air being sucked in. Get a dual-hose system that has intake and exhaust hoses.

The biggest problem with a lot of these portable air conditioners (including the one shown in this video) is that they are "single-hose" units, which means that they suck in (relatively cool) indoor air to BOTH expel heat (through the single hose) and to send cooled air into the room. That's inefficient because some amount of the relatively cool indoor air is being lost by being pumped outside through that single hose. If you want a more efficient design, look for a so-called "dual hose" portable air conditioner which works more like a conventional window-mounted air conditioner does. A "dual hose" portable air conditioner sucks in both (relatively cool) indoor air AND (relatively hot) outdoor air, but keeps them separate and uses them differently: The indoor air is cooled further and then expelled indoors, while the outdoor air absorbs the waste heat from the air conditioner and is then expelled outdoors. This is a much more efficient setup than using indoor air for both cooling the room air and getting rid of waste heat.
