Oddly enough, when I first wanted to get into 4x5 I debated with myself between going for a Crown Graphic or an Intrepid, I even hovered over the 'add to bag' button on the Intrepid website but something held me back, I suppose it was some of the negative things I'd heard from those who had bought one. In the end I bought myself a Crown Graphic and a friend of mine went with the Intrepid. My Crown Graphic still works great all these years later while my friend's Intrepid started to come apart within the first year, and had suffered with light leaks from sometime in the first 6 months! That was the earlier model of the Intrepid however, so I'm sure they've improved since then. But I stick by my choice!

Interesting to hear! Yeah I have heard a lot of bad stuff about the early models of the intrepid and don't gete wrong my one does have flaws, but I would much rather have the warranty of the intrepid than the gamble of an older camera

I'll second that : Crown/Speed graphic over Intrepid. Unless you need more movements for occasional architecture stuffs. In that case I'd suggest you'll save some money to buy a second hand Wista or Horsman 4x5 that are affordable Linhof Technika-like cameras. Some Horseman are quite light too - less than 2kg for the lightest. It's more around the 700-800€ mark, but that's not that far off from the price of the Intreprid. I bought my first 4x5 camera, a Speed Graphic, in july and I've shot more that a 100 sheets since - ok, mostly Foma 100 but developed in Bellini Eco or Xtol it looks better than Tri-X 320 and Tmax 400 imho. I've paid 225€ with shipping for it and it works perfectly. For movement, it only has a front rise but the lense is excellent and has good color rendition too. But more important : it's reliable. Something a lot of person who used Intrepids I know won't vouch for. Speed Graphics were made to stay and are still here after decades of heavy use. Also, though mine is not the best looking, the people I shot always react positively to it. The only drawback of Speed Graphics : they are heavy ! Mince weights 3kg! In short for the 4x5 curious : save some money to buy and process film and get a old timer press camera !

great video. It oains em to see you with that tripod and such a light 4x5 camera :S Gives me anxiety! hahaha a few tips and things i have learned as a photographer and as an assistant. Set up time is a time for you to talk to the client. Dont have them sit / stand in while you set up. Talk to them, find out what makes them tick. Unless of course you have assistants, at which point you are literally mixing with the client and having a nice chat. If you need that extra speed / stop push the film and deal with it in processing. Get a good tripod. Dont skimp on it. Use a bag to weigh the camera down using the hook.

I've never had any issues with my tripod until that windy day but I definitely want to upgrade asap! You are also so right about the set up time, whenever I'm shooting 4x5 with people I just chat away but I can find that between the focusing and shooting it can get a little tense haha. Also I am a complete idiot for not thinking about weighing my tripod down with my bag, I usually do that even when there isn't too much wind but the one time it was crazy windy I just completely forgot!
