I read that book & helmet for my pillow before watching the pacific, all were EXCELLENT. But for me being able to hear first hand some of my brothers father in law's stories (USMC WWII) stay with me to this day. There is just something that puts it in a whole different perspective hearing it from a family member who was there, (Tarawa & I believe Saipan). RIP Norm. Thanks to all now serving, those who have, and those who will in the future. FLY NAVY!!!

This book has obsessed me for years. I just recently 4/05/22 named my son with this mans name, Eugene. Just listening to Jocko read this makes me want to read it again and again. These men sacrificed so much for us there will never be Nothing I can do to repay them. I guess that’s why his name is Alexander Eugene Eastwood, maybe someday he will have a little boy named Jocko. I’ll never forget.

Calm down guy. Don’t idolize and pawn over their war. To many people already do.

I've read this book probably half a dozen times and my ultimate conclusion is this: if you're going to read one book about war in general (not just about WW2) read With the Old Breed

@DamageJackyl Related to this video, I remember watching another video with Sledge himself explaining his life had 2 halves: everything that happened before 9/15/1944 and everything that happened after.
