Hi there! Currently the nest is approx 5 1/2’ wide and 6’ deep. The nest bowl is surrounded by the sticks and the egg cup is a smaller depression inside the nest bowl which will be perfected as they continue their nestorations. We shall see how this season unfolds!

Hopefully they can get a drill through the nest a few times before it snows to let the water out as it’s a old nest and probably clogged when it snows and she’s sitting on eggs her brooding feathers are wet so she’s sitting in water with her body heat

Here is some info and a video that may help. Have fun! Jackie is noticeably larger than Shadow, in fact female bald eagles are 25% to 33% larger than the males. Jackie’s beak is also longer and thicker from top to bottom. It’s easier to learn how to tell them apart if you start when they are side by side. January is the egg-citing time of the year, when we all gather around our screens and wait patiently in anticipation of the first egg of the season. Jackie is known to lay eggs as early as the first week of January, but it may happen as late as in April. This wide window always keeps us guessing.

Female bald eagles lay eggs throughout their entire lifespan in the wild, which is an average of 25-30 years. Jackie is currently 12!

Hello! A camera has been installed in this nest since 2015 so it was already there when Jackie (in 2017) and Shadow (in 2018) started using the nest. The camera is likely just another part of the tree to them. The Nest camera is covered in a smoke colored dome and is set to be as inconspicuous as possible.

Our organization follows the day to day activity of Jackie & Shadow. There may be days when they are absent from the nest and our eggs are traditionally laid in January. Hope this helps!
