Wow, setting the pull limit is a game changer. I was unaware of that change and relied on micromanaging my exports to avoid cratering the price of goods and my stockpiles

I had built multiple jewellers workshop assuming the jewellery would get a decent premium over the raw gems - but no, none of my neighbours paid enough for it to cover the price of the gem and metal needed to make it, never mind the added labour - so check prices with your trade partners, it may be better to export raw materials than crafted goods (at least in the case of gems).

If you have an embassy you can try to flatter other rulers to increase relations; or sometimes just give them free stuff now so they'll like you more and pay more later. But whenever you sell make sure you give the other side a better deal, even deals seem to make relations go down.

I've been confused about the trade partnership mechanic. My guess was that it just allows for *automatic* trading via depots at better prices, but that in early game its more efficient to check the "goods" page and see which nearby city is buying the resource at the highest price, or selling it at the lowest. Does the trade partnership actually change anything when using "demand/offer" diplomacy tools to trade?

The Partnership heavily bumps up the relationships, resulting in better prices overall. So it's definitely worth it if you trade a lot.
