My grandfather always took us out on the river fishing. Never had a hiccup, everything went smoothly. I was young and dumb, and it wasn't that everything was perfect. But my grandfather was always prepared. God rest his soul, I was blessed to be raised by such a great man.

I make the power boxes, for the RV community. Lots of us are off grid, for 6 months. So it’s nice to be able to charge your phone, run a couple lights, or even run a CPAP machine for the night. I made ours, and my friends, with solar charging capabilities.

For the one on the boat trailer, I always keep extra bulbs, a bit of wire and a roll of electric tape just to keep everything legal. Ya don't want to deal with the man if you might have had two beers with shore dinner after fishing.

After watching this a second time, I would recommend using a 3 gallon bucket for your cast nets, versus a sealed ammo can. Because a cast net, gets wet and fish slimmed up, by the end of the day. Get a 3 / 5 gallon bucket. Drill some drain holes in it. At the end of the day, you can wash off the net with some soap and water, and let it drain and dry in its own bucket. Then its clean, dry, and NOT Stanky! And ready for the next big adventure! And you can always get a lid for the bucket, to keep the net stored, but the holes allow for dry air circulation.

I used 4 ammo boxes on my boat at different times. I used tuff coat rubberized paint on the bottom to help reduce them from sliding around the deack and or keep them from banging on the deck

Made the battery box power source. Amazon has a power hub that also has a switch built in. Solves one issue with that box. I also added a charging port on the back side so you can just plug a battery tender or solar panel into it. Never have to open the box.

Tip #8 I used a cheap waterproof plastic ammo can to straighten out my sons scout troops first aid kit(fancy boo boo kit) they use. Because most first aid kits come cheap plastic cases that aren't water proof or durable as even a cheap plastic ammo box. But I have a larger ammo style plastic box for misc gear like yours, but with a few other things like pencils, paper, zip ties, playing cards, etc in my truck for camping or fishing trips. Its truly amazing the variety of ammo style cans/boxes out there.

I had to ship a failed hard drive, and a parts donor drive, to a data recovery service. A plastic Harbor Freight ammo box, a couple of static bags, and a couple of old towels made a package that would stand up to almost anything and cushion the delicate mechanisms inside. The ammo box had a place for a small padlock, but it was just plastic and easily broken, so I taped it tightly shut as well. I mailed the padlock key to the data recovery service separately. A hell of a lot tougher and more secure than any cardboard box.

I love power supply box especially since i have a USB flashlight, I would add some extra wire and bolts on the outside of the power box to charge it that way I never have to remove the battery just add a vent for heat and vapor, I don't have need for a grill, but that was a bad ass hack. The tool box idea on the trailer is a new addition coming soon, keeping bearings, or whatever.

For bank fishin'.. instead of wacky noodles, add another battery. (connect in parallel) you could also put your charger in there and a plug-in so when you get home from slaying the fishys, before you get the knife out just plug it in and your ready to go for the next time. Also great for smaller boats for lights and accessories. and you can use the extra space for smaller items that you need water-proof. Thanks for the cool vids! SK.

Great video on the "hacks" er... alternative uses of ammo cans. A couple of tips on cutting thick aluminum sheet, a circular saw with a carbide blade will cut aluminum as easy as plywood (wear PPE) and if you have to bend the aluminum to keep it from breaking make a mark with a sharpie pen where you want the bend to be, heat the sheet with a torch (regular propane works well) until the sharpie line disappears then let the part cool down and it will bend easily without breaking.

For the battery holder boxes, you could install a 12v power plug and use a solar charger to keep the battery topped off. Might be a good idea to add a fuse to keep from melting wires.

That's an excellent notion. One of those little Harbor Freight 1½ Watt Solar Panels for under $20 nowadays will really do the trick for keeping up a good maintenance charge. I recently tested my little sailboat's elderly standard lead acid house battery with a multi-meter. It's had no other charge in years, and it was tip-top. The panel is nicely weatherproof. My panel's been sitting outside on the bow in all weathers. Unlike higher wattage panels these little 1½ Watters are just the right amount of "gutless" and need no special charge controller to keep them from over-charging or "cooking" the battery. Just set and forget. It would take a few days to bring up a really dead or discharged battery, assuming it could even still take a charge, but it'll top up or maintain one just fine for years and years. The panel comes with alligator clamps or a cigarette lighter style plug. HF also sells a 'Solar Panel Connection Kit' for under $20 that contains a sort of extension cord and other useful doodads in case you have a battery in a shed or garage you want to keep happy, like in a motorcycle, riding mower or similar.

Another thing that I think all fisherman should have in their emergency ammo box is, road flares !! Nobody expects to break down, get lost, or what have you.. but if something happens whether it's night or day... is always good to have at least one!! That way if you do make it to shore, or maybe you don't... and people are looking for you...as soon as you hear somebody.. you can light that flair up and be spotted from a ways, away! I believe that its a mile?! Whether it is or isn't, is just a good thing to have

I made one of those portable chargers too in a plastic ammo box. But I cut a piece of 1/8" plywood that fits down into that lip around the top. Then mounted my sockets on the plywood. That way when it is not in use the sockets are protected.

I use my ammo cans to store ammo in. Hack #11: Put strips of colored masking tape on the top and across the front, under the latch, enough tape to be able to write on with a felt tip marker, and read easily. That way, no matter how you store the boxes you can see what's inside that can and where the can you need is in the stack. This isn't permanent, so you can re-purpose the cans as you need to. Your supply of X dwindles down you can move X to a smaller box, relabel and reuse the boxes. Good channel.

I made a battery box a few years ago with a cigarette lighter socket so I can run my 12v inflator in the tent as well as charge phones. I used a larger 12 amp battery that has about 2 times the stored energy as these 7 amp batteries plus it doesn’t require all the pool noodle to keep it from moving around.

@FishinNStuff 2 жыл бұрын
That's awesome , I would be really cool with a lithium battery . One of the the reasons I used the kayak battery is because of the weight . Adding weight is always a bad thing for kayaks or boats but don't make a difference camping , and would be better the way you did it

I took this video and added my twist to it. I made my battery box with the USB ports, 12v plug, the 12 studs on top. (I put 2 sets of these. One for my fish finder and one to run a cb/marine radio so I can get real time weather Channel and keep in touch with others on the water) and rather than put some bright LED spot lights, I added license plate lights for that nice low light and it worked out awesome. Thanks again for doing what you do.

Good suggestions! I advocate for a boat box for tools, one for First Aid, one for survival food, one for survival supplies and tools, one for electronics. I like the metal boxes mostly because they tend to have more uses overall in a survival situation. They’re so darned versatile and easily stored in a fairly tight space.

Most those plastic boxes aren't sealed to start with, not like the steel cans,so you don't need any silicone. Some are though so look in the lid for a rubber seal,if it's there you can add silicone to the plugs/switch.

16:34 that tank filter is neat! That white material is called filter floss in the aquarium industry. It's only part of a good filter. That filter floss polishes the water and removes visible contaminants. To actually purify the water you'll need microbes and someplace for them to grow. Fill the bottom third of the ammo can with lava rock or a similar very very porous material. You change out the filter floss as needed, once it's disgusting but you never touch the lava Rock. Never rinse it with fresh water, that will kill the bacteria. Those two filter media combined will truly allow your bait fish to live in a good environment for a long time.

You are so awesome with your hacks...I've already done and used several ones...I'd also say i very already mad a grull out of an ammo box a while ago and used it first ice fishing for venison and hot dogs for lunch while out on the ice...have also used while camping but want to cut a little door on one end so you can feed sticks for fire while camping...thanks so much for all your hacks.
