We often talk about humans saving animals. We put ourselves out there, as the ones who save the day, as nature’s biggest helpers, always ready to take all the credit. But how often have we celebrated the times when an animal put itself at risk for the sake of a human being? We probably don’t do that often, because people don’t seem to pay too much attention to that. But just because we don’t talk about it, it doesn’t mean there haven’t been any heroic acts by animals.
Today I want to present to you a list of ten animals that saved people’s lives. These acts of heroism will likely put a smile on your face, or maybe even make you cry a tear or two. One thing is for sure, the lives of ten people were saved thanks to the actions of ten animals. You won’t believe what animal number one did for a human! You’ll want to have this one by your side if you ever have an emergency.
10. Dory The Rabbit
Heroes come in all sizes and here’s a rabbit that can prove that to you. When Simon Steggall became unconscious while watching TV, his wife Victoria thought he had simply fallen asleep. However, Dory, the house rabbit, knew something wasn’t right and started jumping on Mr. Steggall’s chest until his wife came over to notice that something was wrong and immediately called an ambulance. Dory knew that she was not allowed on furniture and Victoria kept telling her to get off Mr. Steggall’s chest - but her constant tapping made Mrs. Steggall become aware of the problem and do something right away. An interesting fact is that Mrs. Steggall was working for an ambulance service back then and the house rabbit noticed the problem before she did. She was obviously ashamed, but thankful to have such a helpful and stubborn rabbit in the house.
Never underestimate the potential of the pets you have at home! You never know when they’ll come to rescue your life.
9. Lulu the Vietnamese Pig
Lulu’s act of heroism happened at a time when social media and memes were not a thing. Otherwise, she would have been more famous than what she was back in 1998, when she saved the life of her owner. It all started when Lulu’s owner, Jo Ann, had a heart attack and her husband was on a fishing trip. Besides Lulu, there was a dog named Bear, an American Eskimo that started barking hopelessly trying to get someone’s attention. When Lulu realized that Bear’s efforts were pointless, she decided to get out of the yard where she was kept. She got hurt in the process, but she finally made it to the middle of a main road where she started playing dead. Some people thought she was just a cute playful pig, but someone finally noticed that Lulu was trying to give a warning. The person followed Lulu all the way to her house and that’s how they were able to get help for Joan. What a brave a determined pig!
8. Jambo the Gorilla
When we think of Gorillas and zoos, most of us probably think of Harambe and the controversial end of his life. But there’s another gorilla out there that also came face to face with a child, his name is Jambo and he became a hero back in 1986 when a five-year-old boy fell inside his enclosure. The boy was unconscious, which would make anyone think he was an easy prey for the gorillas. However, Jambo immediately came to caress the boy and stood by in order to protect him from other gorillas. Back then, people didn’t have cell phones like today, but a lot of people recorded the event with photographs and home videos, which helped others learn about the protective and caring nature of gorillas. Some people out there should go watch these videos and learn about how helpful gorillas can be if you don’t stress them out. There’s no need to shoot them, and there’s definitely no need for kids to be climbing down to their enclosures. Leave the gorillas alone!
7. William the Chatty Parrot
William, or Willie - as his family would call him, was a very chatty parrot. But Willie used this attribute to save the life of Hannah, a two year old who was choking so badly to the point that her face started to turn blue. Megan, who was Hannah’s babysitter, was taking a bathroom break when the incident happened.

My german shepherd and I were in my backyard and i have this really old swing set. I decided to go on it and my dog was behind me. As soon as I made contact with the swing, he started to intensely bark and whine. He started stepping in front of the swing because he knew I wouldnt kick him. Then he jumped on my back, pushed me off the swing and dragged me to the other side of the yard. At that moment I saw the swing set collapse. That wouldn't have killed me but injured me a lot. i am very grateful for my dog.

I have a sad, but heartwarming story. When my Dad and his brother were little they lived on a ranch, one day they were playing outside with their German Shepherd, Gordo, multiple rattle snakes came up and tried to bite them, Gordo got in the way and took seven bites, sadly he passed away from the venom. Out in the middle of the country both my Dad and his brother would of died. Gordo died a hero.

When I was a kid, I got my first job. One Saturday I got off late an was walking home on a dark back road. My dog seen me from several blocks away and came running. Before he got there 2 young adult guys, late teens, maybe early 20's came out of nowhere and started hitting and slapping me. Being such a tiny female for my age, I had no way of stopping what I knew deep down they intended to do. My dog however snuck up and attacked both of them, going from one to the other back and forth until they ran off screaming. I know he saved my life that night. 2 years later he saved me again during a break in. I'll never forget that dog.

An older neighbor I knew when I lived in CT was outside doing yard work as a storm approached. When he was about to touch a chain link fence to open the gate, a dog came running from several houses away, grabbed his arm and pulled him away. Immediately afterward, a strong bolt of lightning hit the fence right where he touched. We were all amazed and also happy for the intervention. My own animals have always come to my aid when needed. Some animals clearly "hear" the prompt of God and take swift action.

This story is a small one, but something really cool. When I was a baby, just then learning how to walk, we had a small poodle named Bella. I don't remember her or this story, but my parents told me about it, and it makes me smile. I was waddling around in the living room, doing the usual baby things. We had this fireplace made of red brick, and it had a lip sitting area thing on the front of it like most fireplaces do. It was made of red brick, so the edges were hard and rough, so if you were to hit your shin on it, you would end up with a scrape and probably bleeding. As I said, I had just been learning to walk, so I wasn't very stable as I was waddling around. You can probably see where this is going. I was walking around the fireplace, and I tripped over. My head was going to hit the corner of the fireplace, but our dog Bella jumped in the way and pushed me over in the opposite direction. If my head had hit that corner, I would've died due to how soft and fragile baby heads are. So, despite that I don't remember Bella, I am thankful to her.

When i was a teenager i had a horse named misty. My step father at the time was very abusive and was starting to show sexual interest in me. Once after he and i had gotten in a fight and i had welts all down my back, i ran it to the barn, saddled up my horse, but my step father caught up with me as i was mounting up. He tried to pull me off of misty but misty kicked him in the stomach hard enough that it threw him back a couple feet. And my noble steed took off. I vaguely remember galloping and riding around for hours. When we returned home, both drained, my momwas home from work and i was able to go to sleep in peace. My horse and i retained our very close bond

When I was 13 my golden retriever protected my 11 year old niece (I was adopted by an older couple who already had grandkids when I was adopted) from a coyote that had went I to our backyard. It was stalking her. He took quite a beating but he scared it off. My sister went out during the attack and got myself and my niece inside before either of us got hurt. George went to the vet and fully recovered after a little over a month.

Animals really are amazing, when I was a few months to a year, my dog Blue (Blue heeler crossed with german shepard) who always sat outside my bedroom door came in as I was crying, turns out I had escaped the crib and dislocated my shoulder. He curled himself around me like a mother and her pup, starting to make heaps of noise. This took place at roughly midnight so everybody in the house was asleep, though Blue managed to wake them. He may not have exactly saved my life but he was there to comfort baby me when my escape plan turned sour. When people say a dog is there best friend, they really are dogs have saved drowning kids and adults, taking on tigers and lions. Even wolves have saved people's lives before!

Gypsy has saved my life on more than one occasion. When he’s not knocking rats out of the air, He is stomping and on and barking at a live extension cord that had apparently gotten damaged. It was the middle of the night and I woke up because of Gypsy’s actions. The wire was literally flipping and flopping all around sending sparks flying all over the place. Gypsy risked his life trying to get control of that wire and make it stop. If it wasn’t for his brave actions it very well could’ve caught the place on fire while we slept. Gypsy is truly a hero. I know if ever anything else happens that endangers me in any way, as long as Gypsy is around , he will do whatever it takes to keep his momma from harms way. He’s the best dog I could ever hope for!

One day I was on a hiking trip with my family and then in the afternoon I got lost in the forest suddenly a snake started to climb up my leg and started strangling my neck I was about to pass out because I couldn't breathe until this moose came and knocked the snake off of my neck it saved me when my life was about to be put inside of danger I'm so thankful for that moose and after that since I couldn't find where my family was the moose protected me for hours and hours till people found me and return me back to my family that moves is what I'm so thankful for in such a kind and loving animal ♥️

One time me and my little brother were playing outside and he started to run to the road. There was a semi truck about to pass and I was too little to do anything when our border collie ran up and tugged at his shirt to stop him from running. She was a mature and serious dog who doesnt really play but we love her because she raised us and shes really protective. I kinda call her the alpha because we had a lot of dogs and she was well respected by the other dogs and acted like a leader

If you ever fall into a gorilla enclosure, and are conscious, stay still. If you move the gorilla will be frightened and attack, but if you stay still the gorilla will treat you like there own child and hold you not hurt you.

My friend lived on a farm as a child and was playing in the field her farther told her not to go in due to home harvesting the crops later that day. She was happily running around in the long crops and her farther came up behind her in his tractor and did not see her. A cow in the near by shed started mooing frantically until the farmer stopped his tractor and got out to go see what was wrong but befor he did he spotted her and jumped out of the tractor and ran to her leaving her with a near death experience. The cow went on to live loose on the farm so it can protect when ever needed she got given the name Sally saviour.

I saved a little girl she was 8 feet in front of me and i was watching her clumsy run. She tripped herself then everything seemed to slow down as i leaped with my hands out and caught her before she went head first onto the gravel. I was given an ability that day and any ordinary day i would not have been able to move like that.

i had a dog named floppy was a mix of dobberman and streetdog .he was just like a human .he like watching tv and could put it on him self he like to talk to us just mumbling .he could climb trees and saved me ones from a verry dangerous snake .the snake was so close to me any move i would make he would stike me my dog first tried to take away his atention but when he saw the snake is not taken hes atention from me and could strike any time he just jump between me and the snake in the air the snake tried to strike him but he pulled his legs op to his body in that time i could jump away from there .my fam. were supprise to see that my dog saved my life .he died after couple years i still miss him loved him somuch .there is somuch more about him and the ones learnd him all that but for now he was my hero my life savior .

I was 11 and in 5th grade riding my bike with a friend of mine through the neighborhood. We had thought it'd be a good idea to race, but when we made a sharp turn, I went too wide and my back tire skidded on loose gravel. I hit the ground at the edge of someone's yard and my foot got caught in the chain. The owner of the yard's dog - a big chow - came charging at me and I thought I was gonna get attacked, but then another dog, a stray, barrelled in from the right outta seemingly nowhere and tackled the chow from the side; fighting it off before coming back to check on me. The stray looked like a husky with some wolf in him due to his overall size and he followed me and my friend all the way home after we got my foot loose. My mom refused to let me keep him even after hearing what happened. I'm 33 now and I'm still grateful to the stray that saved me 'cause without him, I'm not sure where I'd be...

i've had my own traumatic experience but for the reasons that i wasn't expecting, i was hiking out in some swamps and knew of the dangers, but i'd gotten over my head and ego and found myself stuck in quicksand and when a branch close by broke i thought it was over for me, i literally started having mass amount of flashbacks of my life. then as i my legs were close to being under, a large snake (maybe close to 3/4 meters long) wrapped itself around my chest and it's other to a nearby tree, it straight up pull me out, looked at me for a bit before slithering off into some brushes, when i got grabbed by the snake and pulled out, it dislocated my left arm from it slipping from my chest and grappled around the arm, i've never seen anything of a snake saving a human nor did i think it'd just leave me be afterwards either, however i have NEVER been as lucky and as happy to see a preditor save a potential prey.
