Every medal winner …. Not only winners but all the Olympians (even non- medal winners as well) reached to that stage just because at some point in their life they never gave up … it is just some stories got highlighted and rest shrouded in obscurity … but the truth is everyone’s story is big deal and big testament of never giving up.

Not giving up is one of the hardest things we face in life. Not only sports, but with other things as well. I've seen so many people just give up on their careers because of the stress and hardships they had. But winning through that makes them a real winner. I really respect all these athletes for not giving up until the end.

Most of us have a favourite athlete and it's usually someone from our own country. Mine is Spyros Gianniotis. The guy after two previous atempts in the Olympics (Athens, Beijing) he came close to an Olympic medal in London, when he finished 4th in the Open Water 10km race. He was crying at the after race interview because he was already 32yo and he knew that this was probably his last atempt on winning an Olympic medal. Four years later he came back for one last time at 36yo and won the silver medal. I will never forget that day.

Abhinav Bindra (India, 10m Air Pistol) deserves to be on this list. 2000 - No medal, failed to make it to the finals 2004 - One of the favourites but no medal (imbalance on the floor he was standing on made him lose in the finals) 2008 - In the Warm-ups just before the finals, he shot a 4 and has never shot a 4 in his lifetime. He quickly recognised the issue, recalibrated his pistol and shot 10 10s to bag gold. He waited for 8 long years and finally achieved what he set out to achieve. Legend in every sense

Oscar Figueroa - 62kg Weightlifting Beijing '08 - Fails all 3 snatch attempts due to a nerve issue with his grip. Eliminated, breaks down in tears. London '12 - Finishes with a silver, setting an Olympic record in the Clean & Jerk with 177kg (had he failed this OR he wouldn't have qualified for medals.) Rio '16 - Wins Gold, in front of hundreds of Colombian fans, and then leaves shoes on the platform to signal his retirement. What a story.
