RimWorld is a story generator. It’s designed to co-author tragic, twisted, and triumphant stories about imprisoned pirates, desperate colonists, starvation and survival. It works by controlling the “random” events that the world throws at you. Every thunderstorm, pirate raid, and traveling salesman is a card dealt into your story by the AI Storyteller. There are several storytellers to choose from. Randy Random does crazy stuff, Cassandra Classic goes for rising tension, and Phoebe Friendly just makes good things happen.
Your colonists are not professional settlers - they’re crash-landed survivors from a passenger liner destroyed in orbit. You can end up with a nobleman, an accountant, and a housewife. You’ll acquire more colonists by capturing them in combat and turning them to your side, buying them from slave traders, or taking in refugees. So your colony will always be a motley crew.
Each person’s background is tracked and affects how they play. A nobleman will be great at social skills (recruiting prisoners, negotiating trade prices), but refuse to do physical work. A farm oaf knows how to grow food by long experience, but cannot do research etc.
The game generates a whole planet from pole to equator. You choose whether to land your crash pods in a cold northern tundra, a parched desert plain, a temperate forest, or a steaming equatorial jungle. Different areas have different animals, plants, diseases, temperatures, etc.
People in RimWorld constantly observe their situation and surroundings in order to decide how to feel at any given moment. They respond to hunger and fatigue, witnessing death, disrespectfully unburied corpses, being wounded etc.

If you can't generate your planet that means one or more of your mods is breaking your game. As for which one you'll have to go through the list and see which one might cause the conflict. Steam workshop descriptions of the mods you installed should help you with that.

Yes, reducing traffic through freezers is always desirable. Here are a few other tips on that (though they might not all be beginner tips): - Butcher table inside the freezer. Yes, there's a time penalty for the cold. But butchering is fast so this is small and mostly or entirely compensated by less time spent hauling things to and from the table. - Entrance to the kitchen through the freezer. This is mostly about keeping the kitchen clean by reducing the number of times non-cooks enter it, but it may also reduce traffic in the freezer, depending on what your alternative arrangement is. - If playing modded, use Rimfridge's single wall freezer to pass items in and out of the kitchen. Basically sandwich the kitchen between the dining area and the freezer with meal single freezers on the side of the stove that faces the dining area and raw material single freezers on the side facing the main freezer.

My tips: When you make a freezer, which should be one of the first things you do, spend at least 5-10 minutes planning out what will be next to it. Ideally, you want to make 1-3 freezers (connected to each other) that freeze everything your colony needs. If you search perfection, you want your freezer to be connected to: 1. hospital (herbal medicine keeps frozen, drugs could be kept here as well, like ambrosia) 2. fridge (basically it could be right in entrance of the freezer, but I prefer to keep my main food stored away from raw, in case infestation managed to break in, I would still have access to my food supply without risking my colonists, don't forget to also vent it to keep things frozen) ideally if you build in mountainous terrain, you want to preserve most of the space outside for crops/power. To save yourself space and make your base supersafe from infestations, build into the mountain only your freezer, since infestation won't spawn in very cold temperature, you don't have to worry about it happening. Just make sure your freezers are set to about -29°C or -39°C because when power goes out, it will take a long time before they start spoiling, usually enough for you to fix the problem. You definitely don't want to have your main storage get infestation, since you can't burn it, so keep your workshop and storage outside, unless you can deal with the infestation through combat. If you really don't have any room for dining room or bed rooms and you build them into mountain, at least make sure you plant wooden floor, so it can be torched with Molotov and burn infestation inside. Also make sure to polish walls, it gives great buff to beauty and you don't have to waste resources on it as well.

@@buttnuttz6119 Depends on circumstances. With pro brawlers and bunch of assault rifles/shotguns behind them you can beat entire infestation by combat. That said it's late-game option when you have best hospital equipment, drugs, proper defenses in case raid comes while your pawns recover etc.

Better fridge design is to build a one space thick room around a central room. Put vents on the walls of the central room and coolers on the outside room. Since the outside room is only one thick it cools very efficiently while the vents slowly equalize the inner room to the outer rooms freezing temperature. This has the advantage of creating a buffer space around the inner room that helps to keep it subzero even when the power fails.

I solve this by just adding more freezers, 2-3 for main freezer, set to -39°C so even when it runs out of power, it provides enough time for builder to fix the issue/solar flare to end and I never have to worry about it.

Gazillion hours in and Kokoplays taught me the seed name is actually printed on the tile box --never paid attention before, what a dumb! Glad we were not told to put chefs and cleaners on night duties (and not builders as I've seen hmm, Kokoplays?). Your people are getting a pretty big debuff from all the wire on the floor, also switchs are kinda a waste of steel when you can just make a wire and reconnect to power on power off. I would also add a Nutrients Dispenser as it helps to feed prisoners at a lower cost, but other than that some pretty cool tips thanks :D

I would suggest turning off the music for the base game while you are recording, and then adding a rimworld track when you start editing. This way, the music won't just stop abruptly when you switch to the next scene.

For the sterile tiles, does the whole room have to be tiles for the buff to apply or, for example, just under and around the cooking table. I’m asking because my cooking table is in a large room and i don’t want it all to be sterile tiles

I think the more sterile tiles in the room, the better the cleanliness is. So if part if its wood, it'll be less clean than a fully metal room.

1. I wouldn't recommend graves to get rid of corpses. It's better to use an electric crematorium because each grave wastes 2 blocks of (building)space. 2. It's unwise to build unconnected rooms. The base is much more efficient if you have "one big complex" with several rooms because the walking distance between workplace, fridge/storage room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom etc. is shorter -> less time is wasted by walking around and the colonists can do more work in the same time. 3. Also put your power conduits into non-flammable walls (e.g. granite). This will lower the explosion radius of the "Zzzt" random-event and fire won't spread that much. 4. Aviod to build rooms into mountains! You will trigger insectiod random-events where several hives and insects spawn. This is one of the most annoying events in my opinion if several dozen insects spawn directly in your base and destroy stuff. 5. To counter attack a siege on your base just set up several mortars. 0,5 to 1 Mortar for each colonist is perfect. When the raiders build their base just fire all mortars simultaneously in the middle of the siege camp. Because of the inaccuracy of the mortars the explosions will cover a large are and kill/hurt a few raiders and force them to attack your base where you can shoot them one by one in a killbox. This tactic also works on mechanoids when you destroy their space ships. 6. create a "killbox" (like in 10:09) where you can intercept most attacks on your base. Just make the killbox long enough for sniper rifles. Cover the gound with stone tiles that no trees (cover) can grow there and fill the box with wooden spike traps. Also provice a roof, light, non-flammable floor tiles and single granite-wall segments at the position of your snipers to privode them from darkness and/or rain debuffs during a battle and give them the best possible coverage. The wooden spike traps are also perfect to incapacitate enemies and make many prisoners you can recruit. 7. use a nutrient paste dispenser asap. It's the most efficient way to feed your colonists.

@@KokoplaysMB I can't find and videos on the best traits you can get on a colonists. For example I think having one be a psychopath would mean good things form somebody else that's just a cannibal. But mainly thinking traits that work well together with a 3 colonists team and with the the starter skills you'd need. Something more advanced when it comes to picking colonists. I enjoy gathering up tutorials for games I can't quite get yet.

With the new updates tainted apparel became a pain in the ass. I'd advise you grab one of the apparel recycling mods and recycle anything that's tainted into useful leathers. You get around 25% of material back and you can use it to make clothing for your colonists or sell the leather itself.

How do I guarantee to incapacitate specific targets from raids and maybe valuable enraged animals? Most of the time I can't figure to avoid injure them permanently or even straight up kill them... =(

Well with vanilla that is a big problem actually, there's no way to guarantee incapacitation. Mods are your friends, what I usually use is melee pacifier weapons and pain guns both added with Orion mod. Those will pretty much make sure to inflict as much pain as possible and thusly down instead of killing your target.

Blunt weapons like the club only knock people down 90% of the time in the vanilla game, but the guy already stated, modding is your friend, Combat Extended makes the combat very realistic and adds a ton of REAL world firearms, and it also adds beanbags rounds for shotguns that never kills.

@@tinyfunnylilcritter1525 I think it's better to wear tainted armor and prevent my colonists from dying over having their mood good, if you don't play on hardest difficulties you might not need it, but I play on Rough and I struggle with the raids. (I don't have turrets yet) so having my people geared as well as they can be is essential for me. I got lucky and almost all of my 10 colonists are amazing shooters (we are talking about 9-14 with passions in it) so they can take down a lot of enemies even without turrets, but they get wounded quite often.

This game is God dam hard! I was casually playing nothing wrong, and all the sudden. My yorkshire gets killed by a cougar. I mean wtf is wrong with this game? You're hurting my feelings with this. Also when a animal is mad, he kill every single one of my guys. Last time it was a rat, a F#cking Rat! How is a rat killing 3 armed people ? I get stuff like this every time. The farest I've went was 4 citizens. Then got one dude going crazy and starts shooting everyone and everyone dies. It's like the game is telling me not to play the game. Great video by the way, found new ways to let my citizens live a little bit longer now.

I don't think I've ever heard of a colony being wiped by one single rat, so you're def pushing the limits there :D The game will hurt your feelings, especially when you play on the highest difficulty. Maybe at the start play on base builder just to learn all of the mechanics and get an idea what you can do in the game. Good luck!

@@KokoplaysMB I was pretty chocked myself when I saw my colony being wiped out by one single rat but it happend. Also I'm playing with AI Peacefull and the easiest mode. Always large Hills with a lot of ressources and surrounded by mountains/Hills to lead all the raids to one point, but still I keep daying before the first raid. Hope I'll be far some day...

You can survive everywhere with a bit of practice, logic will tell you that frozen wasteland doesn't grow crops, desert might overheat your pawns, mountains can be good to hole in, rivers can be a source of power etc. Experiment with biomes, they're all fun in their own way.
