Thanks for the tips. I just got the Ally. Was playing 2 pixel art indie games but both only lasted just over a hour before the Ally was out of power. Now it’s under 3 hrs of game play. Getting rid of those start up programs, using 720p and going to 60 hertz really helped. I thought it would bother me going to a lower resolution but with pixel art games, it’s barely noticeable. You don’t really need 1080 for emulation of older titles either. It’ll matter more with 3d or modern games. I’ll go to 1080p for watching videos.

Hi mark. FSR is better than RSR. Only enable RSR if the game doesn't have FSR in its options. It's always better to use the FSR option included in games. It's possible that some games may not have that option, so it's good to activate RSR in those cases. Nevertheless, FSR always works better.

You told people to set native resolution to 720 then to also keep RSR on. RSR won’t work with the resolution set to 720, since it has nowhere to go to upscale to. You want to keep it to native 1080, and then set the in game settings to 720 AND exclusive fullscreen. Not all games have exclusive fullscreen tho, so this won’t work all the time. You also don’t want it on if the game has FSR, as FSR is better.

Yes, you can use it. The differences is just barely noticeable cause of the size of the screen.

So right now you like the steam deck or this rog ally? Cause the problem with the steam deck is that you need to install windows to play some games like bf3 and cod4 :). And it's just a hassle to install something else just to play other games.

I would say it's to early to deside TBH like when I got steam deck at release it wasent the best ether but over time it got Amazing so same probably will happen to the Ally aswell that's why I don't like comparison videos between a new product to s product that's over a year old because steam deck hade over a year of updates and Ally bearly been out like even the fps difference between early reviews of Ally to the late reviews performance difference is huge

based on my tests, even on my gaming laptop, that has a bigger battery, (legal on planes,) for triple A games 1 hour mark, low or mid or high, it can't go for 2 hours. handhelds, or not, applying all of the debloats, will give you that. for normal use about 5 or 6 hours (my laptop included.) my screen was set to 2k native, but the time was the same playing. now non triple A will give you 3 hours or depending even 5 hours gaming. keep in mind you are talking about win gaming devices, (macbook pros don't count) but hey 1 hour AAA is pretty good! back then we couldn't even get 15 minutes....

and yes... wifi sucks a lot of power. companies... needs to fix this one day! but without wifi, it wouldn't be mobile. or maybe inventing something else to get signal, but not eating your power. I just hope elon doesn't do that... lol but any ways, that was good to learn, coz between the ally, and steam deck, I prefer the deck because of the touchpad they already have. for me... this is essential. but over all, yes based on my tests, that's the possibility to save a reasonable battery life on any gaming device. one day... we will get micro battery quantum. so would be 8 to 6 hours AAA intense tasks.

you know what's fun... companies shoves these better screens res, high fps, sure... on desktop devices that make sense, but in a power mob unit! like a laptop, or a handheld... makes no sense if you want the battery to last... sure some people don't care, they can choose, but! most people will want to not f** the battery that fast... so I tested all your tips on my laptop, playing at the 720p 60hz gave me 01:48 min on the apu, and 01:24 on nvidia rtx, and 1080p... only 48 minutes. company don't tell you how to op to save battery, but in reality, for a size battery legal on planes, this, is the max hour or intense tasks, such as triple A gaming. normal sue, 6 or 5 hours 8... just broswsing not youtube. it takes a lot. Mac os doesn't count, we are talking about windows gaming plus work combo.

Laptops never had good battery life and always had better performance plugged in so it adds up with the ally will we ever see a laptop or handheld pc with good battery idk

don't set refresh rate to 60hz vrr not work with this speed. 120hz only way for vrr working properly.

All that gives me a perspective of how impractical this thing is right now. It’s cool that running on windows you don’t have to worry about as many compatibility issues with games, but like Marc said this is a device your buying to play games. Not to replace a desktop or laptop, so all that extra pc stuff is eating up memory and using resources. Something like this really should come out the box with ab OS that is optimized for its main use case. Asus will try to market it like oh you can take it to work with your and use it like a laptop or you can take it home and plug it up to and external gpu and basically have a ps5, but you can get those kind of devices for cheaper and in a more effective package. And it’s bad enough you have to tinker with game settings to try and get the game to run the best, but if you have to basically gimp the hardware because it’s battery can’t really hold up effectively, what’s the point of that fast screen and extra power. And if I’m going to have it plugged up most of the time, might as well get a laptop that can draw more power. I watched another reviewer who took his Ally off the charger after a full charge, he started recording a video talking about it and in just about 10 minutes of sitting on his desk not running anything but having some launchers open his battery dropped to 90%. Thing is losing 1% of battery a minute not even playing games. I think Nintendo Switch has fundamentally changed what our primary game platform will be like in the future, and even though is way underpowered compared to something like this it still makes more sense.

you might think this applies only for handhelds... but even on my laptop (gaming) it's the same thing. I have to close all launchers, to save my battery. in this case... is the company's fault for making their launcher power hungry. I thought it was the device, but how... the battery is larger than a handheld. then after a test it hit me... it's not. you can use a handheld as a pc for sure, but just be realist, of what we can archive this day and age. also fps matters. if you love 30fps you are in luck lol saves tons of power. but 51 is not bad. by the way apple macs don't count... lol Reply

thanks for the tips, i don’t have rog ally or any latest high end windows pc gaming handheld but currently have the gpd win 3, i will try it on my gpd win 3…never ever adjust anything on my gpd win 3 settings, just on it and start playing it 😂
