Redwing blackbird is my favorite. When I was a kid we tried to save a nest of babies from a field my brother was mowing. We actually succeeded with 1 of the 4. When releasing him at the end of summer failed, he lived on with us for 4 more years. I love their song and the perky way they perch sideways on the cattails in the roadside ditches.

I saw two Indigo Buntings a couple of weeks ago. I've seen one Scarlet Tanager. Two I would add, though, are the Blue Grosbeak and the Rose Breasted Grosbeak, both absolutely stunning. While I've never seen a Summer Tanager, they look as striking as the Scarlet Tanager. Even though they are common, I will never tire of the Cardinals and the Goldfinches.

Oh lucky you! I'd meant to suggest to Lesley to show/educate us on just why they're called gros beeks, I know the answer and will send her some backyard pics to celebrate 🍾! We've changed the hummingbird mix to 1/4 brown sugar instead of the store brand as suggested by someone who only got them by making it themselves, I know the wasps like it but it's in a shaded spot so I'm not sure on the hummers, hay we should sue those big army looking gas ⛽ guzzlers vehicles for using the hummers' name! I'm on the Island of Montreal and don't get most of these, does anybody want to trade up for some starlings? Didn't think so!

My feeder might have accidentally resulted in some sunflowers, and the goldfinches love them! I was blown away to see an American Redstart land on my very urban porch railing yesterday morning - an immature or a female, soft gray with bright yellow flashes. The males have the same flashy Baltimore Oriole black and orange, just in a cute little warbler package!

A Baltimore oriole has to be the best hiding bird in the world. Gold finches fly in “short hops”. I can identify them as far away as I can see them. Cardinals are perineal favorites. Blue birds are another well hidden bird. Grosbeaks are all along Michigan’s Au Sable River. They’re so thick that I used to think it was just one bird that followed us along, day after day. All beautiful birds, except for the indigo bunting, Baltimore oriole and bluebird they have all paid me a visit. Never heard of indigo bunting, what a stunning blue color. I love getting glimpse of the scarlet tanager taking a bath in bird bath, which he certainly enjoys. No need to look up at forest line as in late afternoon I keep eye on bird bath one week I saw him days in a row splashing around. The goldfinches, visited for a week in late spring, but have not been back, hoping that come winter by not cutting back echinacea they will return to eat seed, supposed to be a favorite of theirs. In winter though there is nothing like the sight of papa cardinal sitting on snow covered pine tree, just gorgeous.

I see plenty of male orioles during the season, but a female visits more regularly. I saw an indigo bunting last summer, but not this year. (I'm in west Michigan). I have to admit though, I've been focusing a lot on my monarchs this year. I need to buy a larger enclosure. This year, I've raised 60-70 butterflies, from caterpillars. Many of the caterpillars were newborns. The poop is bigger than the babies! Lol! I haven't attempted to raise them from eggs yet because I need live, indoor milkweeds for that! Anywho, thanks gor sharing your list!

That's awesome to hear about your monarchs! I had a dismal year, sad to say. 😥 Only a few made it to butterfly stage. There were LOTS of baby catapillers, but there are so many predators, they hardly stand a chance it seems. 😥 I had to work so much overtime this year, I was barely able to watch and look out for them. I'm happy to hear a lot of people have had a good year for them, though!

Being in Miami, my favorite backyard bird is... Painted Bunting. I’ve had a small group for the last few years. They are surprisingly easy to see, often right outside my window. The clash of colors are outrageous, a sight to behold! Other favorites are Boat-Tailed Grackle (full of personality), American Redstart (animated, abundant, and flashy), Red-Masked Parakeet (neat social behavior), Grey Catbird and Ovenbird (both curious and friendly when I’m in the yard). Also from your video, I love having Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, and Cedar Waxwing around. Scarlet Tanager too, for its flaming red, and always being a rare treat to spot. Should also mention the Peacock. One showed up 6 years ago and never left, this year a female has joined him. They are very tame and always fun to watch. Of the ones in your video that we don’t see in my area, the Evening Grosbeak is my favorite. It has a beautiful blend of colors. Your videos are great! Thanks

Here in Arizona, I get to see Vermilion Flycatchers on the golf course as they migrate through our area in the Spring. Beautiful little birds. An annual Spring treat.

Like I said before, I just can't pick a favorite! I'm grateful to see plenty of goldfinches in my neighborhood. I love the way they fly - like they're riding invisible roller coasters, and chirping four times quickly as they dip. I've seen one up close, perching on the painted daisies in my garden. When I was very little, I saw Baltimore orioles, and I called them "Halloween birds" because of their beautiful black and orange.

I am blessed to have most of these beautiful birds in my backyard. Excited to say the Eastern Blue Bird has raised several families in the nest boxes. The best part of seeing and watching birds is how it settles you into happiness.

That is really neat about you having Eastern Bluebirds raise several broods in the nest boxes. I agree, watching birds does give a wonderful sense of joy. Thanks for the nice comment. Have a great day!

I love them all, but I especially stop and stare when a Cardinal, Indigo Bunting, or Oriole stop by the feeders! Oh, and the Red Headed Woodpecker is a rare treat too! We don't get the Anna's Hummingbirds or Evening Grosbeaks, or Waxwings, but we do get Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds and Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks. Oh, who am I trying to kid, I stop and stare at all of them at the feeders, even my faithful Chickadees!! They are ALL so beautiful, it's hard to pick a favorite! Thanks to all who contributed the stunning pictures, and thank you, Lesley, for putting them together with your lovely voice-over!!!

What about the Summer tanager? The male's breeding plumage is stunning. I have Ruby throated hummers here. What a joy! But the time that a Roseate spoonbill flew directly overhead during a bright golden sunset .... that was magnificent beyond words!

Another great video! Thank you! I live in Northwest Washington State, and don't get many eastern birds. We do have Varied Thrushes, and often hear their eerily beautiful song. Also here, Stellers Jays, Cedar Waxwings, and Evening Grossbeaks. My favorite is our Summer Tanagers, in their flourescent red, orange and yellow plumage. So tropical looking in such a non-tropical place, they are like flying flames.

I hope that one day I will see a painted bunting!!! To me, that one is the be all, end all. In my area I have my cardinals, blue jays, goldfinches, hummers, & cedar waxwings. This morning I observed a Mississippi Kite mottled juvenile atop a huge tree- where some of the branches were bare of leaves. He/she was easily seen by me- esp with my binoculars. He was "crying" to his parents & as I watched, they both swept in & fed him! SUCH an amazing site- the parents are SOOOOO stunning with their gray & white markings- & a mask around their eyes!

My totem bird is the Vermilion Flycatcher. The male catches your eye while he swings on a telephone cable, but the female with her peachy belly and white fluffy throat is equally beautiful. And they hunt together. Best wishes to all from southwestern Mexico.

Male, rose-breasted grosbeaks are probably the most stunning of the uncommon birds that visit my backyard in the spring. The most stunning year-round has to be cardinals. I can have dozen of them at once in the winter. Their red makes for such a beautiful contrast against the snow. Oh, and I can't forget that one magical day where the four evening grosbeaks stopped briefly at my feeders. Such a rare sighting in my parts.

The orioles all summer here in upstate NY. Flickers, Red breasted gross beak, Downy woodpecker and the Hairy woodpecker. It's been a very busy season up here. Unfortunately I had to remove the feeder for about a month. A disease was infecting the song birds. It started south and got as far as PA. Nothing was reported here in NY state, thank goodness. I sanitized the feeders and put it back out this past week. A lot have already started to migrate so I felt safe doing so. Orioles and Hummers are still here. They'll leave next month, : ( Love your video's.!

A few weeks ago we had some major construction project going on in our backyard with several people outside. A male bluebird wanted to feed his baby from our feeder, so he kept the baby on our roof and flew down to our tray with no concern whatsoever about the people and noisy equipment, to get food for his baby. I just love watching all of these guys come to our feeders. They’re truly a delight to the eyes! ♥️

I always love looking at the different types of birds, all unique in their own way. I like crows, magpies and the butcher bird and of course the fairy wrens here in Australia. I do love the sound of the American crows, sound more higher in their call. I have a blue jay on my phone, lovely bird. Thank you for your video, very nice to see these splendid birds.

Very nice list and excellent photos of these beautiful birds. My favorite is the Red-headed Woodpecker, which I have only seen once. I would add 2 species from the west side of North America-the Western Tanager, sadly becoming harder to find, and the very familiar, at least in most of Western Canada, Black-billed Magpie. A lot of people do not like magpies, as they are noisy, overly common in many places, and disliked for their egg predation. But to see an adult with its long tail and beautiful irridescent blue and green plumage, as well as the contrasting black and white, is to see a very attractive bird.
