Just got back last night to NC from a whirlwind tour of SC, GA, and FL.. Actually, 'wing-it' tour is more like it. I was impressed with the SC state capitol building in Columbia. And we stayed just outside of Charleston at The Inn at Middleton Place. This was my first trip to the Deep South since '72, when I was 14. Next time I'll plan to stay longer in SC (got to hit Beaufort!).

That's a fact. I saw so many Places while in the military, being stationed in Europe was one of the best times of my life.....in the barracks bore...no problem, I just drove to Paris, Spain, rode the trains everywhere, went to Octoberfest in Munich. Visited small towns in France and had a blast. Travel is great, I loved it.

Kiawah Island and Hilton Head are your best bets. Myrtle Beach is kind of dangerous and dirty. Sullivan's Island has Fort Moultrie and some good beaches as well, plus Patriots Pointe and Charleston are just minutes away.

Charleston's overrun with people. You can't go there on the weekends unless you like throngs of people. You can barely move on the streets as a result. We go in the off season through the week but it's still crowded because the Citadel's having something or the bridge run, etc. We've quit going. There's other nice places to go that's not wall to wall people. How can you enjoy that.
