@@hicturbaest Let's see: round face, colour, markers round the outside,couple of hands... yep, definitely a stolen design. No other watch has ever had those ideas in their look and feel.
@hicturbaest
@hicturbaest 3 жыл бұрын
@@interestedbystander196 The design comes very close to Nomos´, there are also other players with similar design traits. The Nomos Tagente design was initially stolen from fellow german watchmaker Stowa. But go into split-screen, and scroll through Nomos lineup (focus on the Neomatik line) and keep a picture of the Casio on the side. You will soon notice that the Bauhaus-styling, overall layout, and applied indices every five minutes come shockingly close to the Nomos Orion Neomatik ref. 392 (link: nomos-glashuette.com/de/orion/orion-neomatik-392?number=392#). Case shape, dial layout, markers and indices, even the bright orange/red small seconds hand at 6 o´clock. Virtually the only differences are the non-oxidized hands and slightly bolder, Tangente-styled lugs. I have no doubt Casio makes great watches, neither am I one to dispute upon an original design - but this Casio doesn't have one.

Nice to see Timex being presented as a better alternative to a Daniel Wellington. There's an old US TV Timex advert on youtube, that demonstrated the build quality of a Timex. They fixed a Timex 'Marlin' (a cheap watch at the time) to an arrow head (to the head, not the shaft) and got an archer with a long bow to shoot it through a pain of glass that had a tank of water behind it. The bow was drawn fully, so that the arrow flew with maximum velocity, with the watch (not the arrow head) smashing through the glass and landing in the water, with a fantastic crash. The watch had no signs of damage and was still working perfectly. I'd love to see a Daniel Wellington try that stunt.

I have never had a Casio (and I've owned a LOT of them) that disappointed me. The very cheapest and first (bought fourteen years ago) is STILL going on its original supposedly eight year life battery. Most of the digitals I would prefer to have bigger numbers (getting old now), but they are all tough as old boots, even the non G-Shocks. You can't go wrong with a Casio.

Great lessons to be learned here, and I wish young people would watch this video. As a Swede I'm of course sorry for the behalf of my country that the DW watches are recognized as a Swedish brand. On the positive side though, there's so much affordable alternatives to all these non-affordable (and often crappy) fashion watches, and you bring up some really great ones. I wasn't aware of that Braun model, that looked quite interesting. Braun is for me a brand that makes (like many Japanese brands) various house hold gadgets, but wasn't aware of them making watches as well. Braun is actually also mentioned several times in one of William Gibsons classic sci-fi nóvels (Mona Lisa Overdrive, maybe? Could be wrong) as some tool/gadget that the protagonist use.

You might also want to consider Seagull watches. These are unabashedly Chinese (China Made at the bottom of the dial) and of quite decent quality. I have one 9mm thick automatic from this company that has stayed within +/- 3 seconds per day for two years now. Watches don't get much more "minimal" with a white dial with the brand name and only a seconds track around the periphery with numerals at each 5 second mark. Their movements are used by many Chinese manufacturers, and I have heard that they are the world's largest manufacturer of mechanical watch movements.

BigW, Kmart or Target for less expensive fashion watches. Most of the Casio range are now assembled in China. Hence Japan Mov't. I still own a 35 year (purchased new) Casio quartz analog watch, (made in Japan) that is in good working condition, minus a few scratches here and there. And yes. I still wear on a regular basis. My choice anyway for pure style will be...Junkers, followed by Casio and Timex. Forget the others. Great vid!

Hey, man, your videos save me from wasting my money away in one of those not value brands (MVMT specifically), so I thank you for speaking truth to those who don't know such like me, and I'm even more thankful that you recomend wacthes and brands that worth the value. I just want to ask some things: 1. you know (and in case u did) Komono brand and what is your opinion/review on them? 2. I see in the video for a moment a watc call named Sternglas but u don't talk about it, so i don't know if is that is good or not, or what is your review on them? 3. Between Orient Bambino and Timex, wich is better, and in case is the expensive one, the cheaper one is still the worth in one of those brands? Thanks again for calling out the truth. Edit: forget about the 2nd one, your video talking about them appear just after I write this, 👍🏿

I am so glad I watched your video. Jeez.. I was looking for a classic, rustic, vintage looking watch with golden case, domed crystal, beige/champagne dial and leather strap. My first choice would've been Orient Bambino, but form the terrible pictures they post on their site, I couldn't tell how domed their crystals were, and their dials were too white for my liking. Casio, Citizen, Seiko, Bulova and Tissot had NOTHING like what I was looking for. Then just as I was about to leave your video, you showed the Junkers and I was like.. WOWWW.

£100 i.e the price of a DW or Vincero isn't exactly all that "affordable" , considering the wide range of awesome watches below that. £50 might still be termed so.

To many people who know nothing about watches £100 is affordable! Hence why DW or Vincero are so popular.

@@user-xg6zz8qs3q yes, £100 is affordable in the watch world, considering all the high end brands. But for an average person buying a watch the same way he/she buys clothes, spending £100 on a watch may be a bit much.

PS. Check out the Seagull 1963, very popular amongst us watch collectors & usually vsmn pick it up for under $200 USD. our company photographers wear these & put them through hell nit they keep going & going not matter what they are subjected to. Right now I have been testing & trialling a field style tool watch for a RRP of $99 with three straps all quality designed by some law enforce,ent guys from the US, with low level lume, its called a Smith & Bradley comes in 8 styles.

Thanks for the info. The quality of the 1963 Seagull mechanical movement is beautiful. I personally would like to have a sapphire crystal on the 42mm. I know they make the sapphire for the smaller ones in 36 or 38mm?

@@davenolan5709 I also prefer the 42mm, but these were 38mm, but you candy the Sapphire Kit for most watches for $5-10 with the AR coating to fit yourself these days or get your local jeweller to do it or I have a few guys that run multiple businesses like key cutting, engraving etc that do these jobs for me for like $10 including strap adjustment or band changes as I am terrible with a spring bar tool even though I have plenty of them.

The problem is that Casio and Timex might have the heritage, but to most people they're the equivalent of Hyundai. But a DW is the equivalent of a BMW to most people, despite the brand being shit. Anyone who is on the market for this kind of watch wont buy a Casio.
