Great video - beautiful footage, wise tips. At the risk of being flippant i think you could also add “actually go on your trip” or “a small trip is better than no trip”. I think a lot of us get stuck in the “one day” mindset.

I once wrote that one of the great things about Josh's videos was the absence of unsolicited advice. This video is different because it answers many of the questions viewers have asked in the comments. Most of the tips are free and easy to act on with none of the buy, buy, buy of other channels, making it so much easier to get out and enjoy "them moments".

Great advice mate. I've learnt loads from you over the years. Another one is... Don't pack your fears. When I first went on a trip, my bike was loaded up like a mule, and it was heavy lol. You soon find out what you really need and don't need. But don't underpack either.

Definitely, I went to the start of the headstock 500 events the other day, and they had the heaviest bike competition and the heaviest was 36KG 😅

Great points, so easy to agree with them, especially the hiking jacket. The cycling gear seems to be more designed on by wind tunnel results than on actual real life elements, needs and bodies.

Super video. Agree with the hiking jacket. I have a Goretex jacket that is bomb proof, hood fits over the helmet. It is my "everything, go anywhere" jacket. The rest of your advice is spot on. Thanks and good health to you. Cheers 🌞🚴‍♀️🖖

Hiking gear works great for me. Forclaz MT500 shorts, merino t shirts and if you are in the UK try the M&S Microskin underwear.

Hope you are on the mend Josh...when I saw the opening scenes of your last video I thought I was watching red bull downhill! As we say in norfolk 'slew you down boi'.

Hot take ... long trousers/tights are far superior to shorts in the uk unless temps are extremely high. Just did a trip through yorkshire where midges bit the s*##" out of my legs in one evening while wearing shorts. Probably had 30 swollen bites on each leg. Less chance of godawful ticks while covering up as well.

That first one is what made me enjoy my trip last year less than i wanted to, did 85 miles in my first day didnt set up camp until around 8:30pm and i was knackered, its nice to know i can do that but my next trip im setting a limit of 50-60 miles

Great advice, especially regarding waterproof jackets and for one getting out of their own head and just getting out on the bike (I struggle with that a lot).

Some great thoughts shared, thanks. Got to say I bought an oversized rain jacket from Decathlon, and also their quick drying cycling trousers which have been great to use over my bib-shorts, keeping the legs warm even though the trousers had taken the worse of the wet surfaces through the winter and spring. Keep smiling Josh

talking about knowing your bike and building it with mainstream parts the 1 part that no bike shop carries in stock is your particular derailleur hanger I found that out the hard way so now i carry along with my tools is a spare hanger it weighs bugger all takes up no room.... of course I've not needed it in 4.5 years lol thats cycling folks

Nothing like experience for the inexperienced. lol Wisdom from someone elses pain and misery means you have choices to make during a MTB adventure. Good stuff Josh and I hope your recovery is coming along and we will see you soon on your next adventure. :) :)

A sticking point for me is knowledge that I can stop… Official campsites can be sparse (there are loads of campsites on the north downs way, but mostly connected to scouts, and so not for me),,,, I have no objection to a wild camp, but have never done it, and in the busiest part of England, my major worry is discovery. I’d really appreciate an in depth look at selecting a discrete place to stop!

From Oz … very well said. I’ve watched and enjoyed much of your work but must have missed what I presume was a crash that has left you injured and recovering. Not good. I’m coming up to 79 and am so so careful not to injure myself while still taking rides, lines and yes, some risks within my capability so that I still satisfy my need for ‘good’ rides. Get well soon.
