From the articles and rumors I've read, sounds like theres currently 4 Avatar games in the works. 1 is an MMO and 1 is an RPG.

I want new Mass effect. I want a sprawling story with a mystery that's actually intriguing and keeps me on my toes with decision making mechanisms. I love mass effect games, all of em, and i want something to replace that in my heart and so far nothing has. Hoping for starfield to scratch that itch. I just want a badass story like ME was.

Bioware should make a sequel to Jade Empire, a very underrated game from Bioware. A new Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic doesn’t sound too bad, either. I just think they should take a look at their older games and do something with those.

Really looking forward to Black Myth: Wukong. Chinese mythology is incredibly under-utilised in gaming imo. Only ‘Jade Empire’ comes to mind (still waiting for a sequel, Bioware). And perhaps Dynasty Warriors. With how rich Chinese history and mythology are, I would love to see more RPGs and open-world games taking place in ancient China.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is pretty good. It's a new interpretation/loose adaptation of the Journey to the West with alternate version of Sun Wukong. Andy Serkis did the motion capture for the Wukong character.

Lost Soul Aside has been on my list since it was announced. I can't wait for that one. Arise of Awakening, Project Eve, and many others on this list are right up my alley. Thanks for this. I love an RPG with great combat!

Honestly, the only one of those that I'm really looking forwards to is Pixel Noir. The rest? Just more Fast-Paced Soulslike Action-RPG porridge. Nothing WRONG with that, but I feel like it's a misnomer to even call them 'RPG's at this point. Sliding closer and closer to the 'action' side, focusing on moment-to-moment gameplay, turning into just another action-game with an upgrade-system. To my mind, a good RPG requires some kind of tactical decision-making, just like in the tabletop-games that served as their original inspiration - not just twitch reflexes. That doesn't NECESSARILY mean that they have to be turn-based, but it certainly helps... there are ways to make real-time combat feel similarly cerebral, but it isn't easy to pull off.

@@Bolzmann13 Well yes because the general definition of an RPG is a player assume a role of a character set in a fictional world where they could interact with. It depends on what game mechanics or elements you are looking for in a RPG game. Is it a leveling system, the ability to customised your character, or having a quest system? Thing is there is no detailed definition everyone can agree on what defines an rpg game only a loose one which I mentioned above. The players and game reviewers are the ones that defines them. Do we need a turn based system with dice rolls like Baldur’s Gate 3 to be an rpg? No there are other games like Skyrim which focused on action combat that are also considered as rpgs. Do games need to be set in a fantasy world to be an rpg? No, games like Fallout and Red Dead Redemption proved that notion wrong. My previous comment is disproving Zulu Bunsen point that the term “role-playing” has lost its meaning because it hasn’t really. It’s just that game developers have decided to focus more on making their games action oriented than strategy. At its fundamental core the games are still considered rpgs.

They each fill their role and work together to accomplish a goal. Nowadays you make one character and they can use every weapon and armor set.

Yeah I'm honestly considering pre-ordering, which I don't do often. I did it with Cyberpunk, which was a disappointment, but Elden Ring was totally worth it so I have a 50/50 success rate right now haha. But I've wanted Black Myth: Wukong since I saw the first gameplay reveal back in 2020

Yep, I've played both Pathfinders and they are amazing. I have enjoyed Wasteland 3 and had some fun with Pillars of Eternity but I would really enjoy something based on cRPGs even with some wicked twist. I don't have Nintendo but frankly the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 might be as close as we get this year. Overarching world-shaping story with interesting characters, emotions, snarky enemies and huge monsters. It's a JRPG through and through but many of those facets are what I'm missing in most current RPGs. I want an interesting heroic journey with charactares that I give a damn about.

DMC is more action focused where you chain together combos and stunlock enemies, the best players just combo chain forever and the enemies can't fight back. Lies of P is inspired way more by fromsoft games where the combat is about dodging blows and following up with attacks. If you go into a fromsoft game thinking it is DMC and you spam light attacks, you'll die to the first enemy.

I want to see more interesting mechanics. Why should an enemy with 1HP be as deadly as one with full HP? Maybe we can do away with HP completely in favour of something more inspired? If not, then other reimaginings of combat are required - as well as innovative alternatives to combat. Whatever, it seems that if everyone crowds around the Unreal engine, there will be a finite number of gameplay components seen across all games. Also, more soulslikes is fine by me: there aren't enough good ones.

@@xdjrunner You are not wrong there, although we won't have a real definitive answer until they are released and played. Most of these games do look interesting and very pretty. But I failed to see anything that really jumped out as truly unique, grounbreaking or "next-gen" if you will besides the graphics. Of course at the beginning of the last console cycle nothing I played at first really felt next-gen/groundbreaking or something that could not have been done on previous consoles with nerfed graphics. Personally the first game I played that felt next-gen or a game that would not have been possible on previous consoles was the Witcher 3. Even the developers CDPR commented on it not being possible but that turned out not to be true I guess cause the very technically weak Switch can run it somehow. Not sure how well but I digress.

You played monster hunter? The monsters change in power throughout the fight, whether they are in rage, or you break/cut body parts removing or worsening some of their attacks. Because they have so much health, the difference is very noticeable over an enemy which is designed to be beaten in a few hits

The Banner Saga is a grid based strategy rpg, but it used that concept which was pretty cool. The attack power and health was the same number, so you benefited from leaving low health enemies at 1 or 2 rather than killing them right away because on their turn would be kind of a waste

My only issue is static characters. If you're giving us an RPG. There's gotta be character creation. I pass on so many games because it lacks character creation. Yeah sure Witcher 3 was popular but none of these new IPs are gonna pull that off. I don't think there's room anymore for a Geralt like character to be made in this generation of games. The future is custom characters.

There was an indie comic called Pinocchio Vampire Slayer that came out a while back. It sounds weird but it was really cool because Pinocchio would break off his long wooden nose and use them as a stake to kill the vampires which I thought was pretty brilliant. I don't know if Lies of P will have any of that, but I would love to see a game based off of this comic

What I noticed about most of these new action RPGs: they all have the same combat and don't really offer anything new. I think you could swap names on the clips and people wouldn't know they were looking at the wrong games.

To be fair, you can say similar for many genres. They have a similar set of mechanics/features that cause them to fall into said genre in the first place. Where the games have a chance to stand out is storytelling, mechanics (adding new/unique/fun mechanics), and art style.

I've always wanted to see an RPG where everything was huge as if the character was a bug, and all the world's races were inspired by some sort of insect, still very much humanoid but inspired by various bugs. Being able to choose which race you play as, customizing, and depending on the race starting out differently. I don't know I feel like a game like that could have the potential to be really fun 🤷🏼‍♂️

One upcoming life Sim/RPG coming out that should be looked at is Nobody: The Turnaround. Currently demo only and Devs are working hard to get it up and running for Early Access. I'm really looking forward to 'Avowed'. I'm actually a little surprised that one wasn't mentioned. Although, it is set in the same Universe as Pillars of Eternity, so I guess it's not completely brand new in that regard. But it's not a sequel, it's a new RPG, and it's a very different game from the PoE games.

​@@plainluke722 That's true, and normally that would be a very big deal. However, in the 20 years or so that I've been playing Obsidian's games, I've yet to play one I didn't like. There's a first time for everything, but they have a very good track record, so it seems likely I will probably like 'Avowed', especially since they have Microsoft to foot the bill for all of the development costs now. I'll wait to see the game before buying it. But in the mean time, I'm really looking forward to it.

Yeah I agree. Obsidian have been making quality forever now. Such an underrated studio. I'm sad they stopped with the PoE games, but at least they continue with their universe that are well written.

I REALLY want a “call of duty-red dawn” one day. I’ve been thinking about it for YEARS and I already have over half the game thought up and I’m not even a game developer. They could make massive amounts of money with the right storyline and DLC’s if they’d just DO IT ALREADY.

@@FierceBullit753 yes I would agree with you, I view him as a demon in human skin, I would love a multiphase fight with a transformation. Lu Bu is one of my favourite characters from the book/game, enjoyed fighting him as opposed to playing as him. My god the first time I encountered him it felt like I had nemesis stalking me lol

What I want is an open world action RPG where I create my own character with a lot of modding support, so something like Skyrim or CP77. The games I'm most interested in are Arise Of Awakener, Project Eve and Forspoken which all seem like amazing games.

Does anyone else distinctly remember Forspoken being a First Person game originally? Like I distinctly remember seeing a trailer covering the movement and emphasizing that weird arm bracelet that gives you powers in First Person, as well as comparing it to Dishonored.

Black Myth Wukong is following an incredibly popular epic called "Journey to the West." You play as none other than the Monkey King and his 99 transformation powers (per the myth, pretty sure you're not actually going to get 99 powers, lest the 99 are upgrades to existing powers). The Monkey King, also known as Son Goku (referenced in Dragon Ball Z, Naruto and many other Anime). As you can see he wields his notable staff that can do wickedly awesome thing, such as telescoping him up to the clouds, giving him the reach of Kratos, and literally WHACKING a Lung Dragon out of the sky with it from one of the videos I saw on it. The Chinese company making it, this is their FIRST console-based game they're making. All their previous games have been handheld games, so this is a MASSIVE detraction to what they're used to, but they seem to be doing and excellent job with it.

Black Myth: Wukong is default something I am getting. It's high time the amazing world of Chinese mythology be recreated into games, and this looks amazing! I've already pre-ordered Forespoken, and Project Eve looks great! I love these fast paced action RPGs that are all about timing and skill and leveling up abilities!

The problem with rpgs is that you aren't playing a role. You're just looking at stats and abilities to level up or crafting like every other game. Why not reward those so called "cringey roleplayers." Discuss whatever theme you want from your souls character but what are they doing other than just attacking enemies in a different rotation. For example if a game allows you to be a plague doctor then you ought to have some responsibilities on top of the normal things. Encourage people to think about the fact that they can't just be everywhere at once so endlessly moving from quest to quest wouldn't be possible in a timely manner. It presents an opportunity for the mindless gamers to ask themselves what do I actually want to do, and what sounds more interesting. The key is that there isn't a right answer but there are consequences. It should be left up to the player, not the community, not the meta, and certainly not the content creators. Tl;DR g Games should focus hard on the role that you play by making it engaging rather than just making it the focus of gameplay because every game has done stats and abilities already.

It sure seems like there's a never-ending list of awesome games coming out... It seems like that has been the case for literally ever.. Yet, somehow, there's literally never really much of anything I want to play at any given time. I search just about weekly for something new to play and nothing looks good... So Idk what happens to all the games that I'm constantly saying, "this looks awesome!" about.. Because it sure seems like I am ALWAYS saying that. Do games only look cool until they actually come out? Is that what happens?

For me a lot of them get loaded with microtransactions and that makes them pointless to play. I want to beat a tough boss to earn something not pay more money to unlock it. Monster Hunter is the best game out there right now if you ask me.

@@ebenezerspludge8369 I do love Monster Hunter. My favorite games are, Horizon ZD/FW. For whatever reason all the games I end up loving always have a female protagonist. Favor games: Horizon ZD/FW, Control, Returnal, the newer Tomb Raider games.. And the game I'm most stoked for to come out right now is Unspoken. God of War and Red Dead 2 are the only games I can think of with male leads that I really love.

@@miserablebrian9245 All solid games. The Horizon games are great. Returnal was fun as well. I love the old Tomb Raider games the new games feel more like far cry to me. Not bad but I want the double pistols and the ability to do side flips while shooting a T-rex or Tiger. GOW and RDR2 were both great.
