Those defrosting plates used to be very popular in the United States. But they had a problem with building up bacteria which is why they're hard to find here now.

Here in the USA we use a aluminum baking sheet, works the exact same.

Love that pan. I've got a kitchen table setup similar to that and we found that putting the bench side near the wall lets us push the table back easier when we need more room, since we more rarely use the bench over the chairs.

I really enjoy your blogs. We were lucky to spend a year in Japan back in the mid ‘80s and loved living there. It is interesting to see the changes that have occurred but Japan is still a beautiful place to live. My favourite gadget from today’s show were the chopping board liners and the sink drain liners. They keep you away from the nasties 😀

Milly is so adorable ♡ purring at the couch 😊 destroying the x-mass tree. ... I liked that you put that white lil carpet with those books and the cute white owl near your entrance, just at the Genkan ♡ feels like the lil owl is saying 'okaeri'. And that defroster 😮😱 OMG so wonderful. Yeah, you are right: when you wanna cook at the microwave some food that is frozen, it's difficult. So, I totally love the mat defroster. And the pan with 3 spaces , also one of my favorites. And it's such a greate idea the cover for the stove 😅 I'm also kind of messy when I'm cooking so.. I would definitely buy one of those if I were in Japan. ❤❤ they really have so many cleaning gadgets and make so easy to keep neat every space of your home 🎉 Genius ❤

Some gadgets are really useful! I’m moving to Japan next year and I will definitely pass that shop you showed😮 however, for all things food related, I do not buy plastic materials (it is extremely toxic for your health, and even that silicon spatula is loosing micro plastics in your food), metal and wood are a much better option

Millie making biscuits is so cute. I love everything except the cutting board. No plastics when slicing food, Chani. You'd better use a stainless steel board. It's a saver for you. It's so good that you go with a friend to see the lighting and falling leaves.
@TvianneАй бұрын
noooooo, no stainless steel or glass boards, they'll ruin all the knives! (but I agree on the plastic)

Hi Chani, enjoyed your vid, as per. If it makes you feel any better the temperature in London is about the same (like Japan, it's going to get colder too). We do see snow in London but not every year, that's fine as it quickly turns to slush anyhoo. It's 2 in the arvo here n a very dark day. So you're not alone. When you mentioned lack of fridge space, something you may already be aware of, it's something i used to do when i didn't have a fridge (not in summer obviously). I used to put bits n bobs outside the back door or on the windowsill. Beers, milk n other bits stay super cold, it works a treat. It may help you, if you haven't thought of it already. Also, some great gadgets, i think the Japanese are brilliant for things like that. Stuff you don't think of but are perfect for the job. I bet you're looking forward to seeing your family, have a fabulous time! ✌🏼🍻🌻

My Esme is the same. So I understand. Sending lots of love to you two. Just a thought you might consider a round wooden folding table it might be more flexible in the space. I have one in my kitchen when it's just my family. One of the flaps is down and it goes against the wall nicely. If I have more people coming, pull the table away from the wall, lift the other flap, and we can sit at least another 3 people. I am looking forward to your next adventure.@ChaniJapan

3:47 I would put the bench against the wall and leave the chairs on the outside. That way, most of the time you could keep the table all the way flush against the wall, just pulling out the table when time to eat. I, personally, would prefer to sit on a chair rather than the bench so having them on the outside of the table will make them more convenient to use when alone, and it will be more floor space in the kitchen. Also when pulling out the chairs, someone might ding the wall. Added benefit, is that those using the bench have a wall to lean against as a backrest. I’m also not sure that it should be in that direction. I think you have limited space to get through the area between the table, the bench corner (or is that white thing a garbage can?), and the exterior door, to get to the refrigerator. But you’ll know better after living with it for a few days, especially when you’re not dining or using the kitchen alone.
@ChaniJapanАй бұрын
Thank you. Some good ideas. I might need to rethink the layout 🤔
