Virgin seemed like such a great cruise line with free wifi, laid back staff, adults only, own living accommodations, allowed you to film videos etc.. I still don't quite know why you left, but I'm truly hoping it ends up being a great change ultimately.

Here's an interesting tidbit. I work in hotel management and I was talking with some guests today. They are cruisers and they were talking about how they love your previous employment company... And I was saying yeah I've heard very good things about them from this woman on KZbin and they started talking about you and all of a sudden we had something in common because we both subscribed to your channel.. just some interesting point. You should know that you're connecting people

I can believe that crew get homesick and need something/someone to relate to on a regular basis. Next month I will be on my 80th (or more) cruise with Carnival. The last few cruises (30 or 40) have been on the Glory out of New Orleans. I am amazed at the number of crew who know me by name (without help from computer info/photo), come find me to say hello and welcome me back, share pictures/videos of their children, etc. I am the grandmother they haven’t seen in a long time. I am someone to relate to outside of their immediate circle. I appreciate getting to know them.

Having been on ships at sea for months at a time, in pretty close confines, I can certainly relate. But being on a cruise ship is certainly a whole other thing from being on a military ship. With all of those various cultures, I can definitely believe the struggles.

Even though I am not crew and don’t anticipate being a cruise crew member, I enjoy your videos from the eyes of a new (one-time so far) cruiser. You offer good tips and who knows, maybe others like me who don’t anticipate joining a crew will be inspired to try it out. I might have 30 years ago 🤷🏻‍♀️ Funny share: I realized when background sounds in your video were the ship. Except for one time when I thought it was my stomach growling and had to pause the video to confirm. It was not 😅

Hi Lucy, in Puerto Rico or Mexico you might be able to hit up a electronics store. Buy a internet CARD for your laptop. You can pay a monthly or weekly internet service fee to use internet via satellite. For example, if your ship allows you on lunch or off duty to use you laptop on the cruise deck on a clear day. The chances are high you can get service to work. Several cruise ships are getting STAR LINK.

All the best with the new contract Lucy and your new role- it is so true about switching off when your away from work I work in hospitality also and struggle with that concept of switching off- especially as everything is internet biased- I have been known to see a app notification from our work platform at 11pm at night and think I wonder if so and so who’s on shift now knows about this; I than log on at home and spend time going over the issue with them remotely.( I just look at it as me wanting to share my experience to those who are newer in their roles or who may not have co e across this scenario before ) clearly- my managers don’t expect this; but if 10 min of my time can prevent a big issue I can foresee- why not? Big changes ahead dispite your previous positions on other cruise lines. Change is difficult and your point of being kind to yourself is very important. When you are "off duty" can you not change into your own clothing to decrease being approached by guests for information? Our recent cruise had staff dressed in an uniform,name tag etc. The maps posted with locations marked were helpful. Best of luck as you get more familiar and comfortable in your new position.

At my age, not having my own room would be an instant deal killer. I spend a lot of time in hotels. I can live with a lot of issues, but bad internet in 2023 is the one thing I will not forgive in a hotel; and being charged extra for the 'good' internet is offensive, and feels like being extorted.

Does a senior officer not do cabin inspections anymore ? As a regular cruiser I often heard cruise staff saying there was “rounds” by a senior officer.

Me working for a different cruise line would get regular cabin checks. They won’t open drawers etc but just look insides if it’s messy you will be urged to clean and you can expect a second check.

I'm curious, since you don't have free internet on board, are you recording in advance and then posting when you are in port and have free access? We always used to ask crew where to get free internet in port in the "olden days" when cruise lines all charged. Now....yeah, that's another great VV thing. I'm still guessing that you are on DCL.....we'll find out far later as I know you can't tell.

Lucy (like most youtubers) records, edits, etc. when she can, then uploads when she has good internet (remember most upload speeds are only 5% - 10% of download speeds). If you have good internet, you can upload many videos, and set them to publish at specific times (even if those times you have no internet). Hope this helps clarify?
