Arizona in general, despite Chase Field being a retractable roof, no fan support Cardinals are a shitshow, worst all time winning percentage, and despite nice stadium, they're still having trouble attracting fans. Suns and Coyotes are both garbage and are bottom in attendance Thing is, Arizona is full of transplants, they don't care about local sports.

frenchfrey65 Arizona has lots of fans, but when your teams are always complete shit, it's hard to watch. D-backs are top ten in attendance in MLB right now, and we always sell out NFL games. Suns have been here since the 70's and have lots of fans, although when you make the playoffs for 7 years in a row, people don't show up. Really the same situation with the Coyotes, only hockey is genrally less popular then the NBA

Virginia should have a professional team. Probably in Norfolk. Before my time, we had teams like the Virginia Squires for basketball and the Neptunes for football. Now all we have is the Tides, a minor league baseball team, and the Admirals for minor league hockey. Both get tremendous support so I think a professional team would thrive here.

If the NFL can work in Green Bay, a city with a little more than 100,000 people, a professional sports team can work in any city with the right support.

Steven Farnesi agree 100%. Northeast Wisconsin (Green Bay and the Fox Valley) has like 275,000 people in an area the size of Delaware yet the Packers still have one of the largest most loyal fan bases in all of sports.

Steven Farnesi Green Bay is a unique situation. Early in their history they became a publicly owned entity, the only such franchise in all major professional sports. The NFL doesn't even allow other teams to be that way. Green Bay was grandfathered in. I don't think Milwaukee could be a big enough market to support a NFL team if the Green Bay Packers didn't exist.

You should not have put Fresno in that list. I'm saying this because a lot of sports owners would not even see Fresno as marketable. The city is actually less appealing than Sacramento. Louisville should definitely get an NBA team along with the reinstalled Seattle Supersonics. It's highly unlikely for Anchorage to get an NHL team because Seattle's in the process of getting that 32nd franchise in the NHL. As for Austin, there was talks about the MLS team, Columbus Crew SC, moving to Austin thanks to owner Anthony Precourt. However, the state of Ohio in the city of Columbus are taking Anthony Precourt to task over that mess with legal proceedings.

I think these cities make some sense except for Anchorage. It's far away and Alaska as a whole has a really small population, especially for being the state with the largest territory. That means the population is sparsely spread all over the state.

I’m from Connecticut, and while I do agree that the market would still be kinda small and difficult. I disagree that fans are too loyal to their other teams now, if the Whalers came back, everyone would drop the Bruins/Rangers/Islanders/any team for the Whalers, that wouldn’t be the issue. The Whalers are still the pride for Connecticut, people love them. We have a minor league baseball team that made its colors green and blue and they play the Brass Bonanza when there is a homerun. Every bar in Hartford has Whaler logos everywhere. You can go anywhere there is a crowd in CT without seeing Whalers merchandise. That wouldn’t happen with an MLB team or NFL team, people like the Yankees/Red Sox/Giants/Patriots too much, but for hockey we would.

I’m from CT & we have people wearing Whalers jerseys, hats and shirts still! We have the Islanders practice rink in Bridgeport, tons of people show up to watch. Even at some bars you can go around they have reruns of the old games of the Whalers. there’s a whalers fan club and they watch the games at bars around. We do love our hockey, we have tons of minor & amateur teams, as our major Arenas house them on weekends. It would definitely be a success if we had an NHL team again!

Louisville actually used to have a NFL and MLB team (played in the World Series). Had ABA too, which at the time was as big a deal as the NBA. The Colonels outdrew most NBA teams in attendance. Won a championship too which is cool, because it counts as a major sports championship, something Louisville will always have. To this day they still have as many or more major sports titles than New Orleans, Phoenix, San Diego, Charlotte, Jacksonville, Memphis, Nashville, OKC, Orlando, Sacramento, Las Vegas.

Don't forget on the Colonels' ABA title win, a big thing to say Louisville deserves the NBA as well: Of the three ABA teams the NBA did not accept, the Colonels were the ONLY team that could have survived in its market (the Squires folded a few weeks after the season ended but before the merger took place, and the Spirits had basically made it clear if they lived, they were moving to Utah for 1976-77.) Throw in that Utah got an NBA team, and it'd be appropriate if the NBA finally lets Louisville in.

I've always imagined new MLB teams for the West Division. American League can keep the Angels, Athletics and the Mariners while two new teams are added for Las Vegas and Sacramento, while the Astros and Rangers are part of the new division in between the West and Central, the National League can keep the D-Backs, Dodgers, Padres and Giants while a new team is added for Portland, with the Rockies in the new division. The new AL division could have a team in Salt Lake City and Albuquerque, with the NL division having teams in San Antonio, Austin, Oklahoma City and New Orleans. That's just my imagination.

As someone who has lived in Dallas my whole life, I can say that it doesn't make sense to say that Ft. Worth needs a team because there are so many cities in the DFW area that we just count it all as one. Springfield, Missouri deserves a major sports team, all that the have is the Springfield Cardinals (AA for St. Louis) and the Springfield Lazers (Tennis, which no one watches). We need a team now and we got a good basketball stadium called JQH Arena that hosts a lot of basketball games and concerts, could also host an NBA team. And Springfield loves it's baseball, has one of the most beautiful Minor League stadiums in the country, big possibility, right.

College baseball is huge down here in the South. I've been following it for the last 9 yrs and it continues to grow in popularity. As far as an MLB team in the South, along with Tulsa, I'd like to see New Orleans get an MLB team someday. It would be good to add on to the Marlins, Rays, Braves, Rangers, and Astros. However, because Ft. Worth is right next to Dallas, it makes little sense for them to have their own teams.

Hartford is too close to New York and Boston to get that big a market. The fact that they had a team so recently is astounding. Proximity to another city is also an issue with Louisville (Cincinnati), and Fort Worth (Dallas). As for Anchorage, that would cause a problem because there's a four hour time difference between Anchorage and the east coast would mean a game starting at 7 pm there would be starting at 11 EST, likely hurting TV ratings when they play east coast teams. Alternatively, if they played all games there during the day, it would hurt ticket sales.
