Since the residents are hell-bent on turning California into America's biggest slum, you probably shouldn't make it the topic of your videos, because many of us are so sick of Commiefornia's BS that when we see the name on YT, we play it safe ant hit "dislike" without even watching the video. @sewallyoung1480Ай бұрын
Their first album was titled "Spirit" and the cover was a montage of portions of the band members' faces. The song "Fresh garbage" stood out for me. The Motel 6 photo was on the cover of their second album, The Family that Plays Together. A weird aside: A friend and I were hitchhiking down the California Coast while I Got a Line on You was getting frequent airplay and Ed Cassidy and his wife picked us up on their way back from a gig in the Bay Area. Very nice and humble folks. I think it was around Santa Barbara I Got a Line on You came on the radio with its iconic drum part and Ed drumed his part on the steering wheel with his thumbs. Cool memory.

Excellent stuff Tim and thanks for doing what you obviously love to do.....60's, 70's and 80's music nerdery. Being in my early 60's, I grew up, as you did, listening to and loving the music, personalities, bands and general music scene of those special times......and the details really help tell the stories. Living around LA you have obviously had the chance to wonder these parks, neighborhoods, streets, and clubs that were all part of the west coast music scene and have gone through the work of sharing your knowledge.....Thank you! The 60's and 70's were a special time......raw, many new awakenings, experimental and more fun loving than the industry offers today. I also really enjoyed your Laurel Canyon series on the homes, studio's and artists of that era. Many of us older music lovers still enjoy this stuff, and over the past 20 yrs I've also dug back in to explore more of those musical details. I would love to see you or somebody good, do a tribute or series (or even better a movie/doc) on music producer Mike Vernon of "Blue Horizon Records" fame. Known more as a blues guy, he seemed to have had a hand in so many iconic groups and albums of the 60's both in the USA and England, and even played and wrote music a bit himself. Let me know if you ever need any help with a project like that. Thanks again for doing what you do.....which I call musical archeology....great stuff.
@RockessentialTimАй бұрын
Thanks much for the impressive comment. Interesting about Vernon, I looked him up after your comments and had no idea his resume was so vast. I'm in my late 60's so I missed a lot of the Laurel Canyon stuff but I got to be in the thick of the late 70's 80's and 90's scene. Loved it and obviously I love talking about it. Thanks again, Tom.

The Byrds are one of my favourite bands. I reckon the photo on the cover of 5D defined them; but the MTM cover is low key cool. The use of the fish eye was genius. Amazing how little the park has changed.

Ferndell is still a really cool place. I prolly walk through it ever couple years on a cool hike up to the observatory.
@doctorbohr1585Ай бұрын
@RockessentialTim Nice. As an Aussie I knew the Observatory, but I didn't know Ferndell trail. I had a squizz in Google maps. There's a lot going on under that Hollywood sign!

@@doctorbohr1585 If its not hot Griffith Park has hours and hours of excellent urban hiking.

Safe as Milk, 1967 also has fisheye, 3 years after The Byrds album release. Would be interesting to find other fisheye album covers.

These are really cool videos you put together. Interesting back stories that I've seen all my life right in front of me without knowing it.

Would love one just on Henry Diltz. I've always wondered what made him such a goto photographer for many bands. Thanks Tim for another fascinating episode.

I love him and couldn't agree more! I happen to know his attorney and have thrown out an invitation to get together but so far no dice.

I was a Midwestern kid in the 60s and love seeing where all that great music happened. Thanks from all of us who only lived it through our transistor radios 👍

Thanks much. I was a Midwestern kid too and I came out here at 18 to see for myself and never left! Funny, I can still describe my little Magnavox transistor in detail.

As kid in the 60's, I too was lucky enough to have a transistor radio which was usually strapped to my bike...

Can't read the number plate. Wonder if it is "significant", like the VW number plate on Abbey Road was, or not, depending on who you asked.
