I went to get my daith done almost a month ago and my piercer talked to me about the service fee, walked me through the types of jewelry and their costs, what the differences were between them. He was talking to me while I was laying down, telling me how to keep calm. Afterwards, he was telling me how to clean it, what to do and not to do, what to use, and told me to come back in 2 weeks for a check up. He's the APP certified senior piercer at where I went. Although it was pricier because of that, it was all so worth it. It'll be a month in a few days and my daith is healing great!!

Sounds like you had a great experience and one I wish everyone had and every piercer provided. See regardless of whether they are a member of the APP, that should be the experience everytime. I'm not a member and have no plan nor inclination of joining the APP but I've been giving the same experience before the voluntary organization was formed. Nothing beats visiting a studio and talk with the piercer. App doesn't endorse piercers or claim that they are in anyway more skilled than non-app piercer. All that sticker on the door means is they met the minimum requirements to be a member and have paid their annual dues. I've had clients that had fantastic experience with members of the app and others that have had terrible experiences. It's like the Better Business Bureau of piercing. Yes, it means they have reached some industry standards but it doesn't replace researching the business and piercer, reading reviews and visiting the physical location.

Weeks later my daith got infected and couldnt save it so i abandoned it. So never going there again. Now i stick to one piercer who i know she is absolutely amazing. Hi Davo! I get why you included asking questions about the price first thing, but you must remember, if we are too shy to ask that question right off the bat, theres a good chance someone could be wasting their time as well as yours. Everyones time is valuable. Some of us just like to get that out of the way before asking our other questions so we can know if your pricing is too much for us at that present time, and we might have to save up a bit for a later time. I do like it when piercers are as up front as they can be by having a website for their business with general pricing. Your content is always so informative and entertaining. More please! :)
@BodyPiercingTattooing9 ай бұрын
I consider one of the pillars of a good business is upfront pricing. If you go to my website all my price for piercings with basic jewelry are listed. I also encourage people to stop in and have a consultation beforehand too. It's been a while since I did this video but I'm guessing is that if some place is extremely cheaper than the other, there is usually a reason for it. Low end jewelry and jewelry materials, out dated methods, untrained or not well trained piercers, etc... Yes, price is part of the decision but it shouldn't be the biggest factor if it means the difference between having a great piercing experience or a terrible one.

edit: WARNING this reply is long af, didn't mean to drone on for so long so... I'm sorry, I guess? in Australia we have a piercing clinic chain called SkinKandy and they're almost all in shopping centres (or malls, as you USAers call them) and they're almost all AMAZING. you know if you go to SkinKandy you're going to get the best care/advice/service/piercing job because they all care. at least at my local one, everyone will find time to talk to you, be open and honest about their experience and recommend a piercer they know could do better if there is one. they'll tell you everything you need and they're so friendly it's awesome. it's just universal knowledge that if your piercing was done at SkinKandy, it was done right (95% of the time) I've had my most recent 3 piercings (tongue, second nostril and conch) done there and they're all healing amazingly well! I had a consultation for a VCH and the most experienced female genital piercer in the clinic had her trainee with her for it. they did an anatomy check and when they saw mine isn't right for that piercing, they immediately said they couldn't do it and told me WHY they couldn't. when I had my first nostril done, it was my first piercing other than my ears which had been done 13 years prior. I got my nose done at a licenced place in a mall that wasn't SK and it was good, but took months to heal and I still have trouble changing the jewellery to the point where I just don't. today I changed it for the first time in over a year and it was really difficult and painful despite being 18 months old and fully healed. my second nostril was pierced a month ago at SK and I changed it today (I know, not ideal...) with NO difficulty or discomfort WHATSOEVER. it was easy as and just made me realise how badly the other one must have been done. I have my nipples booked to be done by their best nip piercer in a week and I'm about a seventh as anxious about it as I was before speaking to her in my consultation because she's amazing and put me so at ease! I'm not saying all non-SK piercers are shit and evil, nor am I saying all SK piercers are perfect. just that generally SK is pretty bloody reliable and from my experience, will always be my recommendation sorry for the long-winded reply, I just felt like sharing my experience with mall-piercers in Australia being hit and miss - you just need to know where to go :)

I think another reason why some ppl ask about price is to know how much they can expect to need to pay. I typically use cash so when i call to ask the price of a piercing its so i know how much money to bring since some piercings and jewelry are considerably cheaper (like i paid $60 for a vertical labret but $90 for a bridge)

My conch piercings when he arose and started having an issue. It was a little harder to detect for me because I have high pain tolerance and I’ve had that my whole life and so even when piercings are irritated or anything like that a lot of times it is very hard to notice it in the early stages for me a lot of times unless it’s my snug if it’s my snug piercing or one of my older piercings, I’ll notice when it’s irritated or teed off or whatever has a problem, but my two conch piercings for some reason were the only ones were I just I didn’t really notice it was having an issue until it was. was until my Conch piercing I finally with my conch piercing I felt discomfort and uncomfortable and I’m like OK somethings wrong. I need to go to my piercer so I went and some stuff had to happen. Jewellery had to get changed but because I was already there I was like 12 miles will just check my snug because you know it’s a slower he’ll let you know. Just want to get a check up see how it’s doing see how healthy it is so I got it. I got it assessed at a check up on it. I just resent I believe a month ago about I got a check on it and things like that she wanted to see it again soon, so I’ll probably go in again to see my piercer again to get a check up on my snug again and then, of course, my conch piercings, but they’ve been. Settle down now since things changed around and got them all situated so my conch piercing are all situated and happy in my snuggles all situated and happy now too switch to a few things around with the cleaning regimen and whatever what not and then it’s been happy and doing good sense so that’s good and healing and doing well but my piercer want to check it again soon if you laugh, and you feel like somethings wrong with it, go see your piercer that’s what they’re therefore like I kind of felt like my conscience had something wrong and somethings going on so I went and went and saw my piercer. Got that all situated and situated and figured out now it’s all fine just like I have no concern with my snug piercing but I figured while I’m already there can’t hurt to get it checked right so that’s what I did I went and I got it checked at the same time. Well the lady changed my jewellery and my two cottage piercing doesn’t hurt she checked it she was like all right yeah looked at the piercing instead of OK it’s healing. It’s doing good and he said continue with regular just upkeep after care continue with it. Make sure it’s clean all the time in and then she the only thing she didn’t say to do was cause I said I would clean my snug piercing in the shower with mild soap. Oh, in the shower cause I started that like doing that before I went to go see the piercer and she said all I want you to continue with that because that’s helping the snug so cause I changed aftercare methods because the one I was using wasn’t working so I said OK I’m gonna change my Snuggie aftercare method so I started cleaning it with the a little bit of soap and water and I asked the piercer I said I did half of about a couple weeks ago away. I did switch my aftercare product to soap and water. Is that OK? That’s why I said you know I switched it with my snug because I felt like I just needed a better aftercare method so my piercer I asked her I said is that OK you know what to do and stuff like that so she gave it a good look over and she said yes continue with it. It’s doing good it’s healthy. It’s happy do that and actually make that your main aftercare method so that’s what I do now so now I just clean my snuggle soap and water twice a day. That’s how I clean it now. And the reason why I don’t do the saline solution part of it is because I tried it with my death piercing in it. I don’t know it went weird. It wasn’t that I made it at home or anything like that or that I like undertake took care of it over talking care of it or anything like that it was just I don’t know something with the saline solution and that piercing didn’t make sense. I’m in my third lobes, for some reason had an issue with it so after that, that’s why I don’t do the saline solution. I don’t know why I tried to do the saline solution after care, but it’s just something about it. I don’t know my ears didn’t like that, but they do like the soap and water. They do seem to heal and understand how to heal with soap and water message him but the saline solution I don’t know why I’m not. I’m not sure why my ears aren’t cooperating with that. I’ve tried quite a few times and I don’t know I don’t know why I have no idea and it’s not that I make it at home either I go when I buy like the premade stuff from the store and stuff like that the stuff that you know Pierce is telling you to get you know what I mean but I don’t know for some reason my ear just has a fit and freaks out with that. I don’t know why I’m just like OK I’m just gonna do the soap and water Methadone and that’s what I do and I’m just like that’s what works and my death What is the worst one and it went all haywire and I don’t know it turned into like a horrible ear infection after that and he had don’t know what happened there with the saline solution with that one but yeah that’s why I just do the soap and water method twice a day that’s what I do seems to work so don’t wanna mess with what’s working My infection wasn’t so great with that piercing to the point at it it travelled inside my actual earrings I had to go and get your drops prescribed me by the doctor and so did my mom and it was really weird. I don’t know why that happened or what why that occurred I didn’t under cleaner over clean it with the Celine. I know that I did it twice a day. I like the piercer told me to do and I don’t know I just went weird. I don’t know. I’m not sure why my ear didn’t like that one but I don’t know. So I just do the soap and water method and it seems my piercings are happy with that one, so that’s why I don’t wanna mess with what’s working

No, I did do one on stretching piercings but not one long term care. It's an interesting topic and I'm not sure there really is an answer. The thinning is caused by the weight of the jewelry and to be honest stretching too quickly and not giving the piercing enough time to recover between stretchings. Also it seems more common with dermal punches and scalping.

My latest piercings I've been back to the studio a few times for questions and for reassurance that they're healing ok. And I'm an experienced piercing healer. I always ask about the stuff I read about online. Tea tree oil will burn all the hello kitty out you if not done properly. Only a piercer will give you the ok for that and most likely they won't. I slept on my industrial recently. It was purely by accident and I expected all the problems I had immediately following. I was totally honest with my piercer and let him know what I had done. We added some stuff to my routine and was told to come back in a week if there wasn't any improvement. Be honest and act by seeing your piercer quickly.

I'm not a fan of piercing with plastic. The biggest issue is there is no clean standard of what is biocompatible or third-party certification. So, the worry is that since it is chemical based and not as durable as a metal alloy, it could be leaking toxins into the body or causing other reactions.

If you want to know what can happen to some piercings, very fast by the way, if you don't treat a small infection quickly, look up cartilage collapse, I learned a lesson when a cartilage piercing got infected and it took me over a week to get antibiotics, it healed but I have a large hole in the cartilage, I actually wear a 3mm tunnel in that piercing now, I was lucky as I like having large gauge cartilage piercings but it goes to show how fast an infection can destroy your cartilage and potentially disfigure your ears.

Yes and I think it's the disadvantage of the information age. Often when there is a problem with a piercing, instead of contacting their piercer or seeking medical attention, people turn to the internet. They get a about 20 answers and solutions and then pick the easiest solution. You should always contact your piercer or doctor as soon as there is an issue. Normally it isn't a huge issue but in situations like yours it is and needs immediate attention. Thank you for sharing your experience.
@5688gamble5 жыл бұрын
Body Piercing & Tattooing I actually wasn't aware that it was infected, it didn't feel sore, I was doing my saline rinses and cleaning it gently, the problem, I wanted to wear a big fancy piece of jewellery, it was actually a piece that said "LOVE" unfortunately I only realised it was infected when I noticed the swelling and then because my doctor wanted me to come in to a surgery and wait for hours and I was busy so it took me days, two lessons, just stick to simple starter jewellery like you said and don't wait when you know there's a problem, I would have noticed it sooner if I had a normal barbell and were I smart enough to just wait for the antibiotics from the start and not try to treat it with teatree oil. I am basically lucky that my stupidly was rewarded with a nice 3mm eyelet rather than a horrible case of cartilage collapse. Now I will always be careful, I thought it could never happen to me because I was experienced then I realised that I don't know enough and that my piercer or in this case doctor is the one to go to. The lesson is to see a doctor right away at the first sign of infection in a cartilage piercing as collapse can happen in a couple of days if you are unlucky!

Honestly I think the only pain was when cleaning and moving it back and forth slightly when crusty tried to go through the hole that I was trying to clean off in that first week or so lol. It’s been years since I took it out sadly. I’ve been wanting to put it back in and I only stopped wearing it because one of the horseshoe closures came off and got lost down the shower drain. I have the horseshoe bar part and one end ball still, how do I figure out what size it is? I don’t know the diameter, what the closure balls are as they are really tiny like smaller then any I had from lip piercing jewelry which initially I had tested hoping it would of worked. No idea what gauge it is either… Also if it is closed ,as it might be at this point, if I went into a piercer would they be able to go through the same spot it was pierced prior or would they have to try to do it in a different placement ? Would I need to buy a new jewelry piece for it to be pierced or could they use the one I have and just buy new ball thread closures for it? I know that area is very small and would hate to end up with a nightmare I’ve heard of people where they went through actual cartilage or crooked or whatnot totally missing the sweet spot or what my ex referred to it as i don’t know if that’s even a term people use lol. No worries If it is closed I won’t be doing another diy stab at it hah. Piercings done diy I have left behind in my teenage years don’t worry😅 and yes that was not the only diy face one I did 🙊 Soo ear gauging I heard that as long as you didn’t go past 00 if you took them out it would go back to being able to wear normal size earrings but I’ve had mine out now for about 10 years and still can’t seem to wear normal earrings unless they have a big stud in the front to kinda fill I guess some of the beginning of the hole to keep it from just falling through. No dangle earrings at all which would I’m sure make the issue worse of the hole size but is there anything I can do to get them more back to normal or a way to figure out what size the hole is to know what gauge I could wear in them it’s the traditional first ear lobes Pierce spot. Thanks! Side note what is the difference between micro dermal and dermal piercings? How much ballpark do hip microdermal piercings cost and what questions should I be asking to know the piercer knows what they are doing and how does one go about finding a piercer? Like where does someone start to find one would you just yelp search to begin or …?
@BodyPiercingTattooing Жыл бұрын
Septum piercings often never close. I would suggest seeing a piercer and have them use a guide pin to see if the piercing is still open. If it does need to be re-pierced, it is usually best to start with a new piece of jewelry. Since this came from ebay, who knows what it is made of and is likely low quality. In most cases if a piercing is stretched beyond 2g it will not shrink back again. Often micro and dermal are interchangeable. The biggest difference is the anchored part of the jewelry.

I got snake bites done at a place that changed 20 quid per piercing (which is on the cheaper end here). I came in, visibly wearing a school backpack and wasn't asked for an ID. Literally got no questions except what am I getting done, went in the back. The piercer marked them out and pierced them with a gage that i find too small and not what I wanted, didn't realise it till after. Also literally just told me two sentences on aftercare and told me that if I have questions to come back. Don't think I'll be trusting them with anything else anytime soon.

I usually advise to leave the jewelry in unless the longer post is causing issues. There is always a risk of causing damage to the piercing. So the answer is there is never a set time but there is really no reason to keep the longer jewelry in once the swelling us done. In fact in some cases it will only prolong the healing.

@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
Soap has always been a precaution. The thing is that your average person just isn't that careful. There is also the added benefit that wounds heal faster without foreign pathogens in the area than they do with straight saline. There has been a number of case studies that have proven this. That all said the bottom line is if you are healthy, give your body what it needs to heal and are careful, you should heal without issue. Everyone heals differently and may require additional help in one direction or the other. I try to hit a middle ground but if it works for you, then it's the best option for you.

I have a flat cartilage which I was told I could reduce in size after 6 weeks. I began to get a bump and was told to use tea tree oil and it made it worse. I have stopped and keeping to the piercing antibacterial cleansing aftercare spray I began with. I think I should have kept the longer labret in to start with, I was advised 6-8 weeks healing time.
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
The act of changing the jewelry could have caused some abuse to the piercing. Then your body reacted to the abuse by producing scar tissue. So yes, changing the jewelry too soon could have caused the problem. However, understand that cartilage piercings are prone to issues like this one. When you say antibacterial cleansing spray, is it saline based?

I need some advice please. So I want to get a helix and a conch on my right ear, but the issue is that I’ve gotten a helix done before on that same ear and it grew some keloids. They got pretty big and I paid to get an injection to shrink them. It worked, but I’m concerned about if I can get those two new piercings. Also, because the reason for the growth of the keloid is unknown, the doctor recommended me not to get any piercings done unless I knew and could avoid growing more. I firmly believe that it was all due to my irresponsible habits, for I did just about everything that I shouldn’t have. Basically, I just wish to get someone’s educated opinion on whether it’s okay to even consider getting pierced again, especially on the same ear.
@BodyPiercingTattooing4 жыл бұрын
Did your doctor in fact say that it was a keloid? Mainly because it is the most incorrectly used term in body piercing. If you are prone to keloids, you will have the same thing happen with small cuts and wounds in other areas of your body. As far as bumps, scarring and issues, taking proper care of the piercing will make a difference and reduce issues.

Your best option is sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare or wound wash spray. If you can't find it, your best bet is mixing your own. The reason you need to use distilled water is because has less contamination than tap water.

What about if you get a lip piercing and the starter bar is rubbing on your gums?
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
Usually the piercing is done with a post longer than need to allow for swelling. Going to a shorter post may resolve the problem. Otherwise the placement of the piercing could be off. The thing is that regardless of placement and jewelry sizing, there is always a risk for gum, teeth and bone damage.
@Bru1seVi0let4 жыл бұрын
I'm a piercer and had this problem myself way before I started piercing and now am going to lose two front teeth eventually as the gum erosion became so far gone. Your gums do not grow back and your teeth are far more important than a piercing! If the issue doesn't resolve after downsizing the jewellery then remove it. Trust me the pain and cost involved in resolving dental problems caused by piercings are not worth it.

@@Bru1seVi0let I'm of the same opinion so I removed my labret as soon as I started to see changes in the gum line. One question I have is I seen a video where this peircer had told this woman not to use q-tips or cotton balls. That she should not use anything and just taking a shower would be good. I just got peirced yesterday and my peircer did tell me too clean it with saline solution and q-tips. I'm wondering why and the peircer told her not to use q-tips. I also seen a video where this woman said they were healing nice inventor 3 months and we're still very sensitive still a little swollen and red had the keloids on them and she said that she was going to wait to do anything becauseit was supposed to be sensitive in those bumps or just healing bumps and they were very natural to the healing processI wanted to scream to that woman know you need to go to either a doctor or your piercer now but the video was 2017 so I figured she'd already figured it out eventually. but I love your videos and I appreciate all the information you give us and keep making your videos
@BodyPiercingTattooing4 жыл бұрын
Don't use cotton balls or qtips. They have two main issues, first being how clean they are and the second is strands of cotton collecting on the piercing and jewelry. I suggest compresses using neilmed sterile saline wound wash spray or Piercing spray. Applied to a sterile gauze sponge or clean new paper. Apply it to the area ten minutes twice daily. The only additional clean would only be needed if you have contaminated the piercing area. Then I would suggest cleaning the piercing area with an antimicrobial or germicidal soap in the shower. Bumps are not a normal part of healing. You need to see your piercer if one occurs and figure out the cause. Once the cause of the problem is removed they will usually go away.

I disagree with the not downsizing ear piercings until it’s completely healed. Leaving a long piece of jewelry in an ear piercing can cause it to heal crooked
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
Everyone's experience is different. The issue with downsizing is there is a high risk of changing the jewelry causing a disruption of the healing and the risk of dislodging the piercing and starting the healing all over again. Leaving longer jewelry in can lead to migration in some cases and to be honest rings have a slight advantage here. It is trying to find that balancing point in the healing when it's safe to downsize and the is vastly different from person to person. The other issue is many people do not bother to see their piercer for the downsizing and replace the jewelry with lower grade jewelry or very complex heavy jewelry. This can lead a large range of issues.

Like yes, I'm not stupid, I know it's a disadvantage in many places when you're *applying* the job, but if you already have a job and get a piercing, and it's not a safety risk or something, it's no one else's business at that point 😅
@BodyPiercingTattooing Жыл бұрын
i will say that it has improve greatly over the past 30 years. It really comes down to what the business considers to be "Professional" and how they wish to represent their business to the public. It can be a safety issue when working with food or medical field. But that depends on the piercing location and how secure the jewelry is.

I guess I should ask, how do I know if something's wrong if nothing weird is happening??
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are lucky but as I said, you can do nothing and given enough time, the piercing will heal. Soaks, saline and compresses will all speed up healing and reduce the likelihood of issues. Cross contamination and isolating the piercing area are in a lot of ways more important. Some people just have weaker immune systems and adding the addiction of clean with an antimicrobial or germicidal soap can be helpful to reduce the risk of infection. I always learn what your body needs to heal and provide it. Tha can be different from person to person. With aftercare instructions we are dealing with a huge range of people with different levels of help. We design as a one fits all and tend to lean on the conservative side.
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
Your body will give off signs. Redness or discoloration, swelling, heat or the areas inflamed or feverish, discharge that comes out in a pus form in an unnatural color like yellow or green and/or shooting and traveling pain. Additionally if the swelling seems to be expanding beyond the length of the jewelry, bumps or excessive scarring and/or the piercing seems to be shifting or moving. As always when in doubt see your piercer.

I can't imagine someone healing their piercing purely on tea tree oil. It's drying af! It's sometimes a good overnight treatment for pimples, in moderation, combined with a good face cream in the morning, but it has no healing properties! I've only used it on one of my piercings, because I got a weird bump and my piercer told me to try it, when aspirin and tribiotic didn't work (I consulted those products with him and a dermatologist) and it actually worked, by chemically exfoliating the epidermis and soothing the inflammation. But you should never put it on any wound as a healing product just because. It's crazy how people can do that to themselves without even doing a proper research!
@BodyPiercingTattooing4 жыл бұрын
What is even more incredible is how many piercers suggest products without researching them. In some cases mixing up their own special aftercare products with things like tea tree oil in them.
