He was also a university student, but he didn't take any classes this year because there is no way to pay for them. I’m currently visiting Saudi Arabia. I was greeted warmly by the immigration agent. My evisa took 3 minutes to get online. I was in Turkey before this. No visa needed. The people were really friendly. No issues. Where are you getting your information ? You forget Egypt where a visa is very hard to get. I wanted to go there but decided not to.

I spent two summers in Turkey back in the 80s - in the east and in the west. The people were so lovely. Several people I met the first year remembered me by name the second summer. The second summer I was there was when Saddam invaded Kuwait. I'd planned to go to Syria and Jordan the following year but ended up in Indonesia instead. Anyway - that was all before the leader of Turkey changed and views towards the West changed on an 'official' level. People are not their leaders though. This is why travel is so important.

Who would want to go to Cuba, China, India or Turkey? Lots of people. Cuba has incredible beaches and is dirt cheap compared to other nearby Caribbean destinations. It used to also have the benefit of no American tourists, but that's not the case anymore. I'm not sure how popular Cuba is for American tourists since I haven't been there since the ban on Americans entering the country was lifted. On one end Americans have never been able to experience it. On the other end I'm not sure if they still view the country in a similar way to Russia.

You can. North Korea allows tourists, but you have to stay with your tour guide the entire time, and when you're not out and about in the city with your tour guide, you have to stay on an island where there's 1 hotel exclusively for tourists. I still wouldn't recommend going though. A high school grad who decided to go there for his 'grad trip' ended up dead because he took a propaganda poster down in the hotel. He didn't even steal it, he just lifted it off the wall then placed it on the ground...he was charged with "demoralizing the people of North Korea" or some shit, punishable by life in a hard labour camp. An older guy ended up in a North Korean labour camp because he told his tour guide he fought in the Korean War on "the wrong side". The vast majority of people go and come back without any issues, but with a justice system as crazy as theirs, who knows what might be considered treason to them.
