Many women who are in comas that are pregnant will go into labor unassisted and deliver vaginally. I used to near hart-Lee-pool. It was an actual monkey that was hung not a child. The people of hartlepool are to this day known as monkey hangers, they dont like very much. My husband, who had never been to hartlepool before so one very busy Saturday afternoon I took him into the seaside towns main shopping centre, he then waited till I was inside a shop to call out "oi! Trace, is this where they hung the monkey" as I didnt hear him he called again but louder and the town centre ground to a halt, you could have heard a pin drop! I left the shop quickly, grabbed his hand and dragged him back to a car before another monkey got hung.

I think what is implied is that the story got told that it was a monkey over time because that term power monkey had been forgotten. But during the actual capture, trial and hanging everyone knew it was a child.

#9 - My English teacher always complained and said 'Pictures are hung and people are hanged'. When someone is killed or commit suicide, the correct term was 'hanged'. The monkey was 'hanged' not hung. It's become my pet peeve now. My teacher sadly passed away from an aggressive cancer about 8 years ago, but all of us in that class the day he addressed this all remember to this day. The other one is February - it's pronounced 'Feb-rue-air-y' and how everyone misspells Wednesday.

Thankfully, though horrible regardless, coffin birth isn't with a live baby. Babies die soon after the mother, so they aren't buried alive unless the mother was also alive. There's 1 woman found that was buried with 3 babies, her triplets, at least 1, maybe 2 born after her death. Jamison has a version in his journal, where he'd heard stories, but didn't believe it was real. When the guide offered to show him, he thought it was a joke, & haunted him for the rest of his life. He definitely drew it much later, trying to get it out of his head. Others including the man who arranged it recanted though money, & pressure could be a motive to. See my other comment. It most likely was a child. This makes more sense although more disturbing. As the story got told over time the term power monkey was forgotten and people started to reference that an actual monkey was captured, tried and hung. There would be no reason to have an actual monkey on board but they did use children. Usually the most simplest or rational explanation is the correct one.

the monkey story is only a legend with no actual evidence to back it up other than a folklore tale. even then the tale has been told in 2 to 3 different ways via song (which was common for spreading stories back then) all the tales having a different reason for killing the monkey one stating a fisherman hung the monkey because it had a knife and another stating that bodammers hung it. that doesnt mean it didnt happen either but the fact we have barley any evidence other than random songs that dont even match the story really begs the question "is this real". in fact i have even heard one theory that they hung a boy who was wearing a french uniform and was believed to be one of the lads that cleaned the cannons etc. so being a french soldier still they hung him. it was then later told as the monkey story. which again is thought to be derived of the name "powder monkey" which is what they called the young children who did that job. again suggesting that they sung songs mocking what happened or telling the tragic tale of this boy calling him by his work name "monkey" and now everyone things they hung a monkey.
