In one of the old counterstrike maps...(forest maybe?), after you died you could move through a certain wall and find a room that had a bunch of rats chanting and worshipping a picture of someone. Super creepy and unexpected!

Awesome list! Actually I think I may have another one. In fallout 4. When you’re clearing out all of the junk in the caves of vault 88, you’ll finally run into a little mini store that’s next to University point. Inside of the Store there is a room that is just blocked up by debris. However if you look very closely there is a white statue that’s buried in the dirt and there’s a creepy eyeball just sticking out of the thing. It has a captains hat and it’s really terrifying lol 😂.

The 'why' for the creepy Sonic CD screen, I believe, is that it is an anti-piracy screen that would display if your copy of the game was obtained illegally and it can be accessed solely coincidentally using inputs on the sound test screen. That's the best explanation I've ever found for it. A very long time ago when I went on a spree of downloading various roms, the first one I downloaded for Sonic CD only loaded that screen and didn't accept any controller inputs, so for me it checks out.

You've put Army Men in the list, and it brought me the best memories ever. I have Army Men 2 for PC and though I can't play it due to the newest technologies, I still remember the great times I had playing it, and Sarge's Heroes as well. There is a Steam game called The Mean Greens, which is totally a spiritual successor of the Army Men series. It's low on players, but still quite fun to play once in a while!

Number 3. Level designers often put character models in the level they are working on to have a sense of both things... So that players can walk through doorways, so that objects relative to a person are the correct size etc. After the work on the level ends, the model is removed.

I remember playing Oblivion on 360 and there was a cool hidden area you could access by downloading the Wizards Tower DLC. You went to the top floor of the tower where the garden was, stood in the middle of the garden, saved, then exited out and deleted the DLC. When you went back in a loaded the game you spawn in a building that looks like its from Bruma. You walk outside and its a small village with a fire pit in the center and everything else past the village is just empty space. The coolest thing is that there is a mace you can pick up in the fire pit that deals fire damage and it just shows up as a green box in your inventory.

1:49 : although likely unknown outside the Western Pennsylvania region, the odd standalone toilet (typically/by definition placed in an old cellar and there for many decades) is known colloquially as a "Pittsburgh toilet." I remember visiting my grandma's house where my dad grew up (Hazelwood ave) and being very creeped out by the cellar that had a partially dirt-packed floor and one end being a large dark empty space containing only an antique tricycle and Pittsburgh toilet. Nightmare fuel without trying. The end. 7:05 : "so ya don't get ya bawls blown off!" Chef: * immediately sits on helmet *

Back when the original gears of war came out, there was this glitch in multiplayer on a military base. You go in the hanger, I believe it was a newspaper and/or fire extinguisher on the ground. Anyway, my buddy and I would shoot the newspaper to a specific spot or corner. Then, you either run over the newspaper or use the take cover button (I forgot which one) over the newspaper and you fall underneath the graphics. It can only be done in multiplayer. We found this out within the first week of the games existence.

I don't know who or why that Easter Egg exists in Green Army Men. But I do know, from actually working at 3DO around the same time, that the company had a very strict 'No Easter Eggs' policy. And they were serious about it. If that was discovered while the company was still in business, whoever placed it there probably got terminated. Swiftly.
@seanrussell3362
@seanrussell3362 Жыл бұрын
Did they ever explain why they had that policy?
@FokkeWulfe
@FokkeWulfe Жыл бұрын
@@seanrussell3362 My guess would be from a legal standpoint. Many devs liked to insert pictures of loved ones (Ratch and Clank 2, Damosel's Moon if I remember right, has the picture of a then-girlfriend-now-wife), and this can lead to hot water, as the likeness of someone was used, and without their consent. Some developers also put in less than ideal things, or left some stuff in that shouldn't have been (San Andreas, Hot Coffee anyone?), so 3DO probably had this policy to prevent anything that would leave them liable. I don't know for sure, it's just a theory.

I don't understand why devs/game studios are so often tight-lipped, get angry or outright deny Easter Eggs. I mean I understand if it's an Easter Egg that someone put in there that is offensive in some way, but more often than not they aren't...so why the big fuss? Also if the Easter Egg in Gears of War was actually finished in production, I really hope someone figures it out some day since that has been a fav gaming mystery of mine!

Easter eggs like #9 are usually developer rooms that they'd create to mess around with things or hold assets that needed to be loaded in for later use. And yes, many times they put things in there for fun that were never meant for use in the main game. Dev rooms don't always, in fact usually don't advertise the fact that they're dev rooms.

The hell valley sky trees are most likely a reference to the Dark Watchers from the Santa Lucia Mountains in California. Local folklore says you can see similar “spirits” watching from up high like in the game in the afternoon. They were first reported by early Spanish settlers.

The hell valley sky people look like and I'm pretty sure are a reference to native American myths referencing sky people. They look like cave art of sky people that were discovered

Dropping a comment early, most likely dropping a T-posing model of ANYTHING means they were just trying to get Size refs for buildings landscape enemies, etc. So anytime you see some random model of a person or human far off the map it's for 2 reasons Size Referencing for other models or Spawning things on the map and the spawn had to just be place far out of view that you can't get to without using Cheats.

Don't know if this belongs in this list but i remember the rats in Max Payne 1 suddenly being armed with Desert Eagles after you lob a grenade in a hole.

I don’t remember exactly which game, but on the Nintendo, there’s a game where if you are idle on it for long on the pause menu I think, a creepy picture of a rockstar appears with some weird music in the background that teases you for being idle. It’s really creepy but I forgot which game it was.

Years ago when I first played Soul Reaver 2, the game glitched like hell on my pc. This caused a lot of the background to be invisible. Thanks to this I could see an unused female vampire hidden in a mountain.

"Yeah Frank got bored one day and just made some nonsense room and hid it as an "easter egg" and spent the rest of the day chuckling to himself over how hard he's gonna troll the players.
