You might be amazed how worthwhile reading the manual is. Not being snarky, but Cubase is so deep, there’s no telling what workflow things you don’t even know exist. Also, just scrolling through the whole key command list in one go and mapping everything that you want to map in a way that makes sense to your brain. Then save your profile so you never lose it. :)

Thank you! I'm new to Cubase, but not computers. Keyboard shortcuts are awesome for efficiency. Thank you for sharing great ones for Cubase to get me started fast. Minor Note: On my computer, Cubase Pro 11 is using Shift+G/H for zooming vertically, and Alt+G/H for zooming waveforms (the opposite of what you said - not sure if this is new or not, because I'm to Cubase). Stopped me for minute, but it only took a moment to look this up. Knowing about the shortcut was the key, and I got that from you. Thank you!

Thanks Dom .. just set up the quantize shortcuts !!
@grimmsundae19544 жыл бұрын
The reset quantize shortcut/idea is pretty clever ;) What I did for my quantize resolution = ctrl + 1-4: previous, next, toggle triplet, and quantize settings respectively. For what it's worth I also have toggle dotted quantize on shift + 3, but that's rare for me to use. I find it pretty logical placement considering that the quantize shortcut is Q. The game changers for me were Edit Instrument (numpad 7), Edit Channel Settings(numpad 8), Key Editor(numpad 4), Drum Editor(numpad 5)... it just feels good.

Thanks for the tips, just noticed that for the 1st tip, you don't need to adjust quantize to change the segment lengths. Cubase simply cuts the segments into equal sizes, using the 1st segment as a reference point.
@DomSigalas4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dave! But that's only if you have Adapt to Zoom as an option correct? :)
@daveelmes23224 жыл бұрын
@@DomSigalas So whatever snap option I have selected, "Beat, Bar, Adapt or use quantize", the segment lengths are divided based on the size left to right of the 1st segment. If I have the "use Quantize" option selected, it snaps to whatever my quantize is set to, so for example 16th notes. If I want to this allows me to create a load of segments that are dotted 8ths or three 16th notes, or any factor of denomination of 16th notes. The tool would snap to the nearest 16th note and then create the segment sizes based on that.
@espenstoro4 жыл бұрын
Nice, I learned some new ones. One of my most valuable hotkeys is ', which is a macro that contains locators to selection, insert cycle marker and navigate right. Huge time save when you need to select and export, say, 50 audio files, which is common in sampling. Just hold down the key until it's all selected, set up naming convention, batch export cycle markers, and it's done. I rememeber my miserable days of doing it manually. Make macros of everything you do often.

I've been DAWless for a while, Logic Pro seems a bit more user friendly but Yamaha's Cubase is my 2nd go to as I own both the MODX6 and the MX49. Biggest pain in DAW's is getting the synths to work, particularly the MicroFreak, UNO and Monologue, just bought a Focusrite Solo will see if it gets easier.

Hello Dom, thanks for the good tutorials. I have to say that in Cubase Elements I couldn't find the "Cycle Selection" shortcut, maybe is a function of Cubase Pro.

Wow the reset quantize is huge! I learned something new. Subscribing now! For those who are just learning about tip #1. Another cool way to get stutter is to highlight all the chops, then move the endings of each chop toward the left so there’s space between each chop. Then fade the endings in a little. It’s a very quick way to get stutters.

I use Ctrl + K to bring up that Key Command window ("K" for Key). Always need to bring it up and search for commands that I've forgotten. Whatever Ctrl + K was assigned to before, I wasn't using. And I reassigned the Snap On/Off to be the A key. If you were taught to touch type, your left pinky will always be resting on the A key. Ctrl + Shift + 1 to add a new mono audio track (ie. "1" for 1 channel) and Ctrl + Shift + 2 for a new stereo audio channel (ie. "2" for 2 channels... makes sense to me) Ctrl + Shift + V for a new instrument track ("V" for VST in my mind) Ctrl + Alt + E to bring up the export window ("E" for export, obviously) I think that's a custom one too, but I'm not sure..?

Hey Dom, with regards to tip 3: Zoom in/out - You mention that Shift + G/H allows you to zoom in/out of the waveform, while using Alt + G/H affects the vertical zoom. However, my Cubase has Shift + G/H affecting the vertical zoom while Alt + G/H affects the waveform. Is the latter what you meant to say or did you swop these functions on your Cubase?
@shonatarisa3 жыл бұрын

If anyone is interested, a while ago I built a tool that displays cubase shortcuts as a web page that can then e.g. be printed (alternatively a CSV file). It’s a single page web application , you need to download the html file and open it with Chrome or Firefox (safari might work, not tested). Sadly there is no way to get the localized names so it’s only in English. Also it can only display used key commands, not empty ones. github.com/janminor/cubase
