Need some rain. I've got cracks in my garden. But the rain needs to be persistent drizzle for days, not massive sporadic downbursts followed by blasting winds to dry it all out.

Hi Alex - I read somewhere recently that the "Beast from the East" works on a 7 year cycle. If that's the case - I think we're due for the next one in 2025. Is there any basis to this - or data to back it up (or discredit it)?

As a coldie, what I'd give for this set-up in December, January and February! But no doubt by then we'll have 'mild' (ie warm) temperatures...the seasons have gone to pot. Ah well.

@@alayneperrott9693 Yes but everything in the real world is still in miles. We still measure distance in miles in the UK.

I don't. I was taught metric measurements in school. That was in the 1960s.

@DMiddleton-bj5wc Күн бұрын
@@DavidPowellG3XLW Yes but you're missing the point, we still measure distance in miles, there are still legacy units in common usage from the imperial system. The Met Office could just give both units...that surely would please both of us!

When you say "we've run the programme very many times" and produced your postage stamp output, what do you actually mean? If you simply repeatedly ran the same programme with the same software you'd get the same results. Clearly you don't. So what is changing?

Is it me or are these forecasts becoming increasingly more complicated? The detail and imagery is way too in depth for the majority of people who simply wish to know the weather forecast and not whether a "cold pool" is sitting above us causing hot air to rise faster etc. By all means keep the 'deep dive' forecasts for those that wish to have a greater understanding but keep it simple for the majority who probably want to know the appropriate clothes to wear. Thankyou.
