This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the next 10 days, dated 24/04/2024.
Low pressure returns for southern areas this weekend, bringing a risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms but also milder air. To start next week it’ll likely remain unsettled for southern areas whilst in the north the influence of high pressure will edge ever closer.

So its basically more of the same ....rain, cloud, wet, cold, grey. You don't even have to watch the weather report .... every day is the same ....winter, summer, autumn, spring ....same old, same old ....only one season going.

Any particular big picture reason why this spring has been so cold/damp? I certainly can't remember such relentless damp and cold conditions since I've lived in Wales (4 years now)?

A weaker polar jet stream alongside a waveform no.5 pattern leads to blocking highs. This means cold air sinks further south in spots and warm weather moves further up in others.

@@MrPhillipgraham ... Not where I'm at, it has virtually rained everyday this past week and half of the previous week. Some days it's been raining just for a few hours but others it's rained literally the whole day. One day this week it rained for ten hours continuously.

Disappointing, blocked pattern is how I sum it up. High pressure always in the wrong place for southern England but glad the North West Highlands getting some glorious weather for bagging a few Munro's!

Being a gardener, the weather is a big factor in growing and getting work done, but these forecasts are really only speculation. So often wrong. On the few days meant to be 'dry', we go out and get soked and blown off of our feet again. The weather world wide is so errtic now, the technology can't keep up with it. My best bet is to not weather watch bnut go out regardless, if I get wet, it means that it is raining. My customers phone to let me know the forecasts say the weather will be fine tomorrow and ask if I will be there to catch up on some pending jobs. Then often phone again the next morning to say that 'I won't expect you today, as it is hammering it down!' I got some work done today as there was no rain forecast wedding brick paving, between rain and hail downpours. Where were all these big snow dumps we were promised over and over? All that technology, drawing pretty maps and graphs and nobody really has a clue! I predict another dry day tomorrow as you sit behind your computers by the coffee machine!
