#10 Does Kansas Belong In The Midwest?

In this episode we are at the Wild Rice Bar in North Dakota, our first caller asks if we should kick Kansas out of the midwest, next caller is trying to sell his car subwoofers, after that the next caller is wondering if he should swallow his pride and bring his lawn mower in to get fixed, Last caller asks the most important question known to mankind... grilled cheese sandwich or PB&J.

As a born and raised Kansan, I promise we are as midwest as you can get. We do have some slight Texan phrases, and our accent is somewhere between Texan and Minnesotan, but the "ope, sorry" heart of Midwesterners is still there.

Kansas is quintessential Midwest. My wife's family hails from Kansas and they couldn't be more midwest.

As a Kansan, I like to say we’re part of the Midwest, but some folks will put us in a category all on its own: the plains! Sometimes they call us the heartland, but that doesn’t really have a geographical meaning like the Midwest, or the south or the plains. I prefer the Midwest, but Heartland and the plains work to.

I'm from Missouri and we're very southern in parts and very midwest in others. But I'd never call kansas not the midwest

We're taught in school that we are the most Midwest state in the union and are sometimes referred to as the Heart of America or the Heartland. I had no idea Wisconsin didn't consider themselves the North. Where is the North then?

Kansas & Missouri are solidly Midwestern, Kentucky and Oklahoma are quasi-Midwest, but they all are regional border states! I consider myself a lifelong Midwesterner: born in Milwaukee, pre-teen years in Cincinnati, teens in central Missouri, graduated University of Kansas (Rock Chalk Jay Hawk!), married a Nebraska farm girl, and we’re raising our family in Kansas City. Northern Kentucky (suburban Cincy) & Louisville is very much the Midwest; the rest is Dixie. Missouri north of I-44 is the Midwest; south & east of that is basically northern Arkansas. Kansas from Wichita & Salina eastward is the Midwest; everything west of that is the Old West. Oklahoma is this weird fusion of Midwest, the South, Texas, and Native American culture, though I do agree it ends up feeling like Diet Texas. The other thing I’ve found is that Great Lakes Midwest & Great Plains Midwest do have distinct differences, but I couldn’t imagine not keeping them together regionally. And we all agree that Chicago is its own thing!

Driving from Madison to STL once years ago I had a friend say if it wasn't for Chicago, Illinois would be Kansas! LOL - If we're kicking anything out of the Midwest it should be Chicago...as much as I hate Tolliniois, the tolls are mainly around Chicago....I once spent a very pleasant weekend in Peoria (LOL) so the rest of Illinois is very Midwest...so yes, leave Kansas alone, give Chicago to the East Coast 😝

Kansas is as Midwest as Midwest gets. Upper Missouri is Midwest but Southern Missouri is the South. Oklahoma I think fits besides Norman.

As a Missourian, I think we are more Midwestern than Wisconsin and North Dakoda. I would consider Wisconsin and North Dakoda more northern than Midwest.

I was born and raised in Texas, lived there until my late 20's. I've lived in the Kansas City metro for more than a decade now. I can't say for certain that Kansas is culturally different from the rest of the Midwest since I haven't lived there, but it certainly isn't culturally similar to where I grew up. I will admit that before I moved here, I didn't associate "Midwest" with Kansas. When I heard Midwest I would think Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, etc. I would never have associated Kansas with the Midwest. I still have a problem thinking of myself as living in the Midwest. I almost think states like Kansas are being slighted for not having a designation of their own. They're really not Midwest, and they're also not Southern, as far as culture is concerned. There's a culture here of its own without a name.

As a Kansan myself, the eastern Kansas often considered the KC metro (it isn’t really tbh lol) isn’t stereotypical midwest but go towards central and western Kansas and it’s most definitely octoberfestern midwest haha

The part of missouri I live in feels like a weird mash between Midwest and South. Everybody is really friendly and has Midwest mannerisms, but there is the southern hospitality, and there is hella rednecks, and there is a weird juxtaposition of Midwest townies and southern rednecks. Its definitely different from Illinois or Texas, which are both places I lived

Just discovered the pod! Funny stuff! Wisconsin is not in the Midwest. It’s in the Great Lakes part of the country. North Dakota might as well be Canada! **born in South Dakota, lived in Nebraska, Kansas, Indiana(middle of nowhere), and now Arizona(were you born on the sun hot).

Isn't belt changes considered maintenance on lawn equipment? It always has been for me, right up there with blade sharpening. That dude should feel ashamed, the video is probably 15 mins of BS and 3 mins of actual relevant info. Also, 2 years on a drive belt, in the Midwest... Can't imagine he deals with a lot of hill's, sounds like someone maybe a little hard on their equipment. Maybe could try giving it a little more tension, he maybe slipping it, and that is what he is smelling.
