Good video. Trash bags are one of the most most versatile survival tools along with a knife and cordage. I’m just thinking a $1 serrated utility knife, maybe even one of those flimsy hack saws, would cut limbs easier than a $1 kitchen knife. Also, a can of beans and a can of fish or ham would stave off hunger more than noodles and pop tarts.

Eric R Pop Tarts are very high in carbohydrates. Which is why the US Army puts them in MRE's. One serious consideration is how much water and energy does your body require to process what you have eaten against its actual calorific value?

Nicely done. I'd have gone with the tarp for the shelter, and maybe added a log wall on a ridge pole for more protection, but for a quick set-up, and good weather, not bad at all.

LadyGreenEyes964 Thank you. I may try it again with different shelter materials, like the tarp and also a 9x12 drop cloth to make a super shelter and try using the plastic bags as some kind of camp cot to keep me off the ground. Thanks for watching.

Very good job man! You choose your items wisely. Im surprised the air stayed in your bag pillow. You didn't have any tape right? Tape would have been a good addition if tax wasn't included in the ten dollars allowed.

Reallybigmonkey1 Thank you Dave. For the bag pillow, as long as there are no holes in it. It kept moving to the sides of my head anyway. I should have let some air out so my head would sink in a little bit. Yeah, I didn’t get any tape. It would have helped with the trash bags. I really should have gotten the the 9x12 drop cloth so I could have had one solid piece of shelter. I thought the bags would be good for the shelter and a mattress. Well, there is always other times and challenges. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

@@bobswoodlandadventures5722 I'm trying to encourage people to stop buying cheap disposal rubbish (please watch "the story of stuff" on KZbin for why) and use upcycled "rubbish instead" for example political posters are often made from thick, quality materials which make quality tarps. Bulk Chicken and animal feed bags are made out of tarp material. A large tin can be made into a "billy" (for cooking, imagine a metal bucket.) Just use an old metal coat hanger or scrap of wire. For a few dollars a quality knife can be sourced second hand with surface rust. (Let sit in coca cola overnight to remove the surface rust.) Matches can be waterproofed by dipping in used birthday candle wax. These also make great fire starter aids and are useful for water proofing things....an old sheet painted with melted wax makes a great waterproof shelter. Bailing twine is strong and otherwise wasted...so reuse it :)

Just a tip to compress all the air out of a zip seal bag or even the rubbish bags you dunk it into the water then seal it and it will compress all the air out. it works just like vacuum sealing.

Love your idea for a toaster! However, I would have liked to see the cooking of the soup. Also, with the amount of bags you had at your disposal, you could have added to tour tent and used your waterproof bag as a pillow. I liked your ideas though. I'm tempted to do this challenge myself, give it a female's perspective. I'm used to camping, I lived in a tent for 7 months when i was much younger. I had some scary moments, but think I would like to try.

I think that this is the first video of yours that I watched, I don't know how long ago, and I don't think I commented, but as we here in the UK 🇬🇧 are on a lockdown, I thought I'd give it another gander. Excellent. You’ve got me thinking. I think I’d go with the drop cloth, two 6x4 tarps, pack of trash bags, same torch, same cordage, pack of ramen noodles, folding knife, matches and bread tin. A single trash bag would waterproof my stuff. I’d use one tarp and drop cloth to make a lean-to super shelter, cut a massive deep bed of boughs for comfort, top it with deep-filled trash bag “pillows” and “duvet” for warmth, and use the other tarp as a blanket. Then I’d spend all day collecting firewood and keep that fire going all night. Winters here in the UK are pretty harsh. Keep up the good work, mate.

Matt Patterson No problem. I know you didn’t mean anything about the curtain liner. I do remember seeing one person use the shower curtain liner, but everyone else seemed to go for the blue tarp or the 9x12 drop cloth which is probably as thin as the trash bags I used. I would use the curtain liner if I would do this challenge again. Thanks for the sub and I subbed you too so I can know when you do the challenge.

From 4:36 ...noooo! Don't go by the pictures on the ramen packets, they write ''serving suggestion'' and the pictures of wholesome chunks of beef and veg are just that, an illustration of what you could make with them... it's a scam really. I haven't got further on yet but I am pretty sure you are gonna be disappointed to find that these in fact only contain dried noodles, seasoning, and perhaps a sprinkle of dehydrated veg in tiny pieces! They are just beef flavour. In Japan there are ramen pots with not just that but also spongy dried squares of dehydrated tofu or soy protein so you get the illusion of having something else to bite into! Still liked your vid though bro! Liked the pillow too.

@simonh6371 5 жыл бұрын
@@bobswoodlandadventures5722 Yeah but it was only one night and the noodles were quicker to prepare than pasta, plus a bit tastier with the flavouring!. Actually someobody on another challenge - the 100 dollar Walmart 7 day challenge vid - gave me some info to show Ramen aren't such a bad idea, he wrote: Ramen noodles have (average): Fat - 7 gram, Carbs - 26 grams, Protein - 5 grams. That is 11% of the fat, 9% of the carbs and the protein is undefined in a 2000 calorie diet. Still would have liked to see you make them using the baking tin. I've come across one or two of your vids previously when looking at bushcraft vids, I think I was looking for tarp configurations, so I am gonna subscribe bro. Thanks for taking time to answer me.

I would make a lean - to with the blue plastic tarp Dollar Tree sells. I carry duct tape and you can tape the garbage bags to the sides of the lean-to and secure the bottom with deadfall for help in retaining heat. Use the tape to repair tears , fix a broken knife handle, attach knife to a stick for a spear, wrap around a cut open plastic water bottle to handle hot liquids. Good job and we all need to think outside the box.
