11:30 That dog is actually stock footage of one of the Dev's dogs. He was so still in the footage, he looked like a cardboard cutout. Sadly, after said footage was filmed, the dog passed away a few days later, iirc.

in Bulletstorm, a whole dialogue from the main character, Grayson explaining a very key plot point at the end of the game just straight up doesn't exist, so after being accused of murdering Trishka's father he just stayed silent while doing a bunch of hand gestures and got Trishka to side with him lmao.

A bigger mistake in FFVII is all of the characters appearing without mouths during the in-engine cutscenes. The characters actually do have mouths, but they are clipping inside of their heads.

I put most of the mistakes in the Silent Hill HD collection on Konami more than the devs that actually made it. If memory serves, Konami didn't even have the source code for the completed version of the games, as they had apparently lost them, so they only had builds that were incomplete. On top of that, they brought in an outside studio to handle the HD Remasters, which meant a team that was inexperienced with working on Silent Hill had to first COMPLETE the broken pre-release builds they were handed by Konami, THEN remaster them on top of that. I'm also pretty sure the studio was rushed by a release deadline that Konami had set in stone. TLDR: Konami had completely bungled the HD Remaster Collection of Silent Hill before it was even handed off to the developers.

#10 doesn't deserve the spot there. Characters giving stuff to other characters has been consistently for decades one of the hardest things to animate, and when they do animate them, most of the time they look janky. This is not an error in the same way all the other entries are, this is just how it went, especially in the PS2 era.

One that comes to mind for me is when Aliens Colonial Marines was missing one line of code and it messed up the whole AI (also not a mistake per se but Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's still included a reference to Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzen in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth despite the fact that we never got Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan localised in the UK and US)

Number 9: Reminds me of my favourite bug I found as a game tester - partially my favourite because they left it in when they released it, so people can see for themselves. Nice and early, too. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. First level you play as Darth Vader, stomping menacingly around Kashyyyk, the Wookie home world, hunting a Jedi hiding there. JUST before you get to his house, OVER his house were 3 TIEs: a TIE Fighter, a TIE Interceptor, and a TIE Bomber. Reminds me because almost similarly to this, floating almost on top of eachother, similarly none are the same. So I wrote up the bug report. They didn't remove them, they invisible-d them, they're still there! Approaching the cabin you have Wookiees running from there over a bridge towards you, if you Force Grip one and toss him ROUGHLY in that direction the game will auto-aim the toss so you blow them up. Two are so close they almost always blow together, rarely you can get all 3 with one Wookiee. (It's harder to tell now that they're invisible, but you see the explosion and ship parts). I have two theories, based on them still being there: 1) Throughout the level there's TIEs flying by off in the distance, maybe they're Copy/Pasted from these 3. 2) In the upcoming boss fight, the Jedi opponent Force Pulls TIEs down on your head like twice, and that these are them. This second makes more sense, except there's 3 of them, I think he only does it twice, also it's hard to tell but I think he only grabs TIE Fighters, and if you blow them up - I pretty much ALWAYS do, a proprietary pride thing - that doesn't interfere with this happening in the fight. Number 1: Why? Because the temptation is just TOO HIGH to resist putting something funny, the idea behind this is dark humour, making it super weird, making it as messed up as they can conceive. Placeholder stuff is supposed to be replaced, you can put whatever, it's only supposed to be seen by your teammates who are working on this game, possibly only people who know exactly who put that there and know the guy personally. People who would know the author isn't actually like that - funnier if the guy is the biggest nothing wuss around. It SHOULD get replaced by something real before any strangers see it. In the meantime, makes a warped inside joke amongst the developer team.

Hogwarts Legacy, I managed to get the dev_placeholderreward "item" after getting Sebastian, a companion who is not supposed to die, to die in combat during one of his quests. It's an item that can't be used or equipped and only has a warning triangle as its symbol, but it's really just a placeholder for an unlootable person who became lootable.

For the first one, having two characters interact precisely is actually pretty hard. Characters generally didn't touch each other much. Having two characters *both* interact with an object is really hard, or at least it was in the PS2 days of Vice City. The object has to be bound to the animation of one character, then switch to being tied to the other character. I'm sure they could have done better, but Vice City was a very big game for it's time, so it's not surprising this slipped through. I'm sure people noticed it at the time, but it wasn't that much weirder than other animation weirdness that popped up in games of the era.

However, it also looks weird it you see scene after scene in game after game where two characters "hand" something to someone, but you don't actually see them hand over anything. So after awhile, that doesn't seem like a great idea either. It's not that this is fine, just that it isn't much worse than everything else at the time. I remember a guy I worked with showing a scene from this game to an animator just so they could talk about how bad the walking animation was for a character. The animation in Vice City wasn't that bad, especially for the time, but a lot of things were clunkier than we're used to now. So things that were a little extra clunky back then are very noticeable now.

There's a funny one in Mafia 3. Your silenced DLC handgun has the silencer attached the wrong way. It really sticks out. The silencer kinda hangs in loose air, and it's pretty hilarious. Mafia 3 got patched to hell and back, but the magic silencer (and the borked weed minigame) was never fixed. Which makes me happy. I like my gravity defying magic silencer.

There's also a mistake in the European version of Minish Cap. In one of the figurines it mentions using a Fire Rod against an Ice Wizzrobe and there is no fire rod in the game. There is an image of the item hidden in the game and if you hack it in it just messes up the tiles and does not shoot fire.

Early in my first Starfield playthrough, I noticed a small space rock following my ship. I thought it was probably just a weird bug, but the rock stayed with me through almost the entire game, with all my ships, and through multiple game updates. Sometimes it was even floating above my ship when my ship was parked on a planet. I tried to shoot it, to no effect. I actually grew to love it, and named it Bob. I was sad when my pet space rock finally disappeared in NG+.

Well, it's still in early access so you're gonna get stuff like that. At one point I found an entire floating village of unused assets in the ocean at the edge of the map south of the fishing village. At first I thought it might be an easter egg, but they fixed it in the next patch.

There _was_ updating back then, pre-internet ... just not of the copy that you already bought! Bugs would get fixed and a revised master sent to the duplicators, so later duplication runs of the game would be a patched version. If a bug was particularly game-breakingly bad, then publishers would sometimes do a recall; telling people to return their bugged copy - physically, by taking it to a shop or mailing it back to the publisher - to get it exchanged for a fixed version. That only happened to me twice ("Harvest Moon: Back to Nature" on PS1, and "Project Gotham Racing" on Dreamcast) so it really wasn't common. The fact that I remember both of them (and what the bugs were!) is because it was such a rare thing.

Videogame enemies of the same type tend to be pretty copy-paste. I wouldn't expect the "friendly crow" to be unintentional unless something really weird was going on with visibility.

I remember something similar in Elden Ring. There's a friendly dog in Leyndell that won't attack you. From what I heard about that, the AI behavior for enemies are coded in a big list for each area and the dog's aggro trigger skipped a line because of a typo... or got assigned to a removed enemy or something like that? I forget. Probably same thing with the crow as it uses the same engine.
For #3, EA is on the record for being okay with DELAYING that game by six months to 'let it cook more in the oven'.

The sepheroth issue is way more than the gloves. Between the video and the in game sprites. There's the gloves, there's the floor checkering, the walls, and they're relative positioning in relation to the opening being behind them, then magically turned around.

For what it's worth, Silent Hill HD Collection actually runs fairly well through backwards compatability on Series X. None of the bugs I encountered in my playthrough on the ps3 were present in SH2 (though i haven't gotten around to SH3 yet). At the end of the day I'm sure most would still prefer PC version but if you want it on console that's the way to go.

ME:A had a lot of bugs, but after the updates it became a nice little time waster. Not on the same level as its three-parts, older sibling, though. But the player's ability to jump beats having to look for on-ramps and off-ramps and the Nomad beats the Mako.

For number 5 FF7 continuity error with Sephiroth's gloves. I don't get how that could have happened? It would be understandable if it was a 2D animated cutscene. One animator accidently drawing without gloves while another animator draws with gloves but it's in 3D. Everyone involved with animating that scene should have been given the same copies of the 3D character model.

I know this is common knowledge for most, but I can tell you exactly how the first one happened. In a lot of games (especially older games), objects like guns or even food items are bound to the character holding them at the start of a scene or sequence. So passing on an object between characters was literally impossible to do in a cutscene. If you looked into the game's code, I can bet you that that gun is still bound to Phil's hand. They just stretched and moved the bind so that it's near Tommy's hand. This is also the reason why characters in games usually pass items just offscreen. Item in A's hand > A passes to B in a cut just out of frame > item bound to B's hand now.

It's actually extremely hard to program a character handing something to another character if you pay attention. It's usually done just barely offscreen. This GTA gun handover mentioned is actually one of the few handovers I've ever seen.

Bloodborne is pretty universally acknowledged as a masterpiece in gaming; and yet there are a ton of visual glitches, methods for getting to unintended locations, and ways to trick the AI into doing weird things (like manipulating the fog to prevent bosses from reacting at all while you carve them up). 🤷♀️ On an unrelated note, I’m gonna start saying “Penguin Yay One” in my daily life when good things happen 😏

I could probably write a book on how many issues I've found in GTA Online, especially since it is a 10-year-old game but, it's like pulling teeth to get Rockstar Support to even acknowledge there is a problem when providing video evidence demonstrating it using multiple consoles within the same instanced game session and being as detailed as possible. For example not being able to put custom license plates on vehicles that normally would have that option, I eventually ask them to post an image showing that they aren't having a problem.

I never played 7 for longer than like an hour but have always seen the cutscene (don't remember if it's in the opening or not, I just remember it vividly as a kid before KZbin was a thing), but I was always told by my friends that Aerith was "Cloud's sister" or something, and color me surprised when I played 7 and it felt like they were being somewhat romantic in a playful way thinking they just went full on Sweet Home Alabama, and having how many damn people cheer their relationship on..... Definitely my weirdest video game experience.

In the mass effect 2 and 3 weapons did get swapped in even if your character isn't allowed to use that weapon in cutscenes and putting a M8 avenger in shepherd hands instead of what ever weapon he/she has or was using before the cutscenes

I think it's funny people will justify the floating statues. More than likely, especially since it was 4 stacked on top of one another, that was just their default load area. Someone wanted to put down a few statues, probably got distracted and no one found them during play testing. Probably.

another one is when in either champions return to arms one or two when you defeat the last boss on the sea area cant remember which it is but you open a bunch of chest automatically and get a quest item in which sometimes a chest next to it will sometimes spwan a exploosive and destroy said quest item barring your progress

Ok, this is not your fault and I am not complaining about you. Just wanted to say that first. I am playing FF7 for the first time ever. I'm playing the Twin Pack 7/8 on the Switch. Played through Remake. I just met Cid and took off with the plane in the OG game. I'm 45 and have somehow completely avoided all spoilers and story elements of this game....until #5 on this list......

Ctr has another mistake. On the eu version hit back on language select when you start up and enjoy the mess it cause. (Swapped boss heads in adventure mode, and no language aside from some dots and numbers)

I don't believe the floating statue is an issue in the original version of the game. It got some updates to load quicker and I think it may have happened then. Also Crow Bro is not a glitch he is just a bro.

In defence of Sephiroth (Spoiler alert to you Remake kids) Most of the game he's a manifestation/spirit, the real Sephiroth died years ago, and when you run into him he's usually projecting himself through a Reunion Member, you could write it off and say he was mid corporealization when he came down and gave Aerith her new hole.

There is a cutscene in Xenoblade 3 where devs forgot to hide their cursor. Idk if they already patch it tho.

some of these are probably because it caused some sort of bug or crash that they never figured out how to fix, just that if they left certain things in the game that it would work right, no choice but to shrug your shoulders and say "we tried, but its outside of our skill/budget to fix properly" lots of instances of these, most of the time they work out some sort of bypass or fix, but sometimes they're left with nothing but leaving partial or broken bits in the game because as a whole it works better
