At first I was confused why so many developers would hide stuff only available to cheaters. But then I realized, by cheating and further exploring the game, you're taking more time to appreciate all the little details they put in.

due to games like CoD and the likes cheating has gotten a seriously negative connotation due to it becoming primarily a Multiplayer orientated problem, when with Single Player you're just trying to get the most enjoyment out of the game as you can in your own way so I can indeed imagine developers wanting to take time to reward those willing to take the most out of their title

Also notable for the Deluxe edition of The Stanley Parable is the bottom of the mind control facility Easter egg ending. As a game developer I'd like to point out that many of these things are leftovers by the developers during production that sometimes goes unnoticed until a cheater digs up the old files. OR they are an intentional mechanic made by the developers to aid in their own development processes, such as with the Smash Bros. Characters. The way smash is programmed makes it infeasible to custom make 300+ individual characters. Instead they have one single base character (the wireframe actually) that is programmed to accept action based input regardless of where from. Then the player "possesses" the "pawn" to give it input. If you are familiar with modern day game dev you may understand these things better. You'd be surprised how few games fully implement this mechanic however. Smash is a good example of devs making total use of all of their assets.

Another notable easter egg I've heard about comes from Paper Mario on the N64. You don't need to be cheating with anything like a GameShark or whatever to see these easter eggs, just really good at performing some very specific glitches. These glitches are typically used by speedrunners to skip through the game. Anyways, this easter egg can be found in the opening areas of the game by performing some very specific jumps near the bottom of the screen in order to access a part of Toad Town that's normally blocked off until the completion of the chapter. Interacting with any NPCs in this part of Toad Town normally soft-locks the game. This occurs in the North American release, but in the original Japanese release, these NPCs have personalized dialogue such as "This message should not appear", among other things. It's believed that the localization team simply decided not to translate these messages as they didn't believe any players would be able to access this part of Toad Town before they should have been able to, thus leading the game soft-locking as there's no dialogue to load.

In the early 1990s, an individual named Chris Houlihan won a contest held by Nintendo Power, in which the winner would be allowed to have his name appear in the game if they snapped a photograph of a rare and elusive Final Fantasy boss named Warmech. The winner was announced to have been Chris Houlihan; however, the game his name would subsequently appear in was not announced at the time. Because of the contest, the North American version of A Link to the Past contained Chris as a character and owner of the aforementioned secret room. In all later ports of the game, any mention of Chris Houlihan is removed, but his secret room remains, only with the room labeled "Top Secret Room". Why Chris' name in particular was removed, and why the room still remains in future ports is unknown, with speculators believing it would be simpler to re-write the text of the room, rather than scrap its entirety.

I personally wouldn't consider the Chris Houlihan room to be cheating. Also, you don't need to hack to get in there, you just need to fall in a way that the game doesn't expect (and trust me, this can be easier than you think). I've gotten to it by accidentally in over 25 different runs of LoZ:LttP. I initially thought it was an easily found room from falling in a well in the town, but then I found I could from falling in Ganon's Tower, falling into the well near the dwarves, after getting knocked off by Muldorm in the Tower of Hera and falling multiple floors; falling in the ice dungeon in the Otherworld; I've even gotten to it by INTENTIONALLY trying to fall to get the Moon Pearl from Tower of Hera. I've heard it's basically a failsafe room that pops up when the game can't find a safe place for you to land in the area you're going. Getting that much money early on can definitely help, since you're going to be able to afford some of the more expensive items early on, but that's about the closest to 'cheating' that I've ever heard.

Warcraft III - in one of the first levels, you can see a treasure chest named Phat Lewt on an otherwise inaccessible part of the map if you deactivate Fog of War. There's also a Night Elf mission with a recruitable Hydralisk behind some trees. You can legitimately get them without cheating by destroying trees with siege weapons, but you most likely would think to look there without a guide or cheating.

The last game on the list... There were issues before with the YT channel. Maybe that's why the devs put a texture like that in the game files. But let's not go there. Thanks again for another great vid, Falcon.

Doki Doki Literature Club. If you delete any character of the game files before the game starts and then run the game, you will get a very messed up cutscene...

I used to poke around Duke Nukem 3-D with the level editor when I got bored of making my own levels. In the last level of the first unit there was a couple of fun things to find. * At the bottom of a lava cliff: “Dopefish Lives” * On the wall by the shrink-ray source: “You’re not supposed to be here - Levellord” There were a few more in different levels, like “Looking for secrets?” or “How did you get here” And some of the levels were signed “SUYT” on the bottom right corner via letter-shaped rooms.

6:28, I like how you added this in, but nobody mentions the eastereggs and such from the Star Wars Battlegrounds (AoE2 clone,AKA better than AoE tbh), and the weird things in it lol.

The oldest easter egg for cheaters that I am familiar with was in Doom 2, with John Romero's head on a spike behind a wall (the face of the final boss) that you could only see if you used a noclip cheat.

Me and my cousin were visiting my Dad years later after Snes was considered nostalgic. and We for laughs booted up my little brothers save which was completed and just ran around reminiscing when he found Chris Houlihans room accidentally, we were both dumbfounded as neither of us had known about it.

The reason her face is modelled in Soma is actually because you were originally meant to see her face in that scene, but they decided to change it and left the face the way it was.

One that I think deserves a mention on this list is Team Fortress 2. In the TF2 files there is a JPG of a coconut that isn't used in the game at all. Once deleting this JPG the game is no longer able to start and nobody including the developers know why this is.

The greatest thing about the Baldur pose is that it’s still in character and fits the story. That’s exactly what Baldur would do in that scene.

In order to get games passed by American regulators, developers would send you to things if anything broke down. For instance, sonic. The level select by shaking the cartridge, was intentional. Any glitch would send you to this screen so when it was tested they could just make it look like a developer cheat happened and not a glitch that might cause it to get rejected. That's probably the same with that Zelda game.

I would add a notable mention to one of the Batman games, Arkham Asylum I believe, where the game allowed you to play a few hours on a cracked version, only to add an invisible wall not allowing you to progress any further without purchasing the full game. Genious!

Got another one. When you use a Game Shark on the U.S. version of Lunar 2 for Playstation, there is a hidden audio file you can play of the main villain Zophar saying he likes that you cheated.

Looking at that first one (and probably plenty of others), I don't think that was specifically intended as "if someone free cams, here's a neat easter egg." My guess is that the model was made for an earlier version of the scene where the woman's face *would* get revealed. And instead of spending time making an altered model for no reason, they kept it this way as it doesn't change much on how the scene plays out. So, not necessarily an easter egg *for* cheaters. But a possible remnant that cheaters can find. ;)

black ops 2 zombies - die rise the only map, in the whole series that punishes a player, in this way, for trying to glitch in the buddha room, there is a broken pillar. facing the broken pillar, and into the room, about half way along , you used to be able to make the zombies AFK, effectively breaking their pathing... a glitch this was patched, teleporting a player to the middle of the room, taking away points, perks and weapons, finishing with a Samantha laugh as punishment

I found the Chris Houlihan secret room, when I was a kid. I don’t remember exactly how I did it, but I called the Nintendo power help line to ask what it was, and I remember the guy on the phone telling me it was a kid who won a contest, from Nintendo power, and had his name out in the game.
@bradg44892 жыл бұрын
Yep was mentioned how to get to room in that month magazine
@Incorrigible0102 жыл бұрын
Yep! I remember that issue of the magazine. Chris was a Nintendo power subscriber who won that month's contest (Sept/Oct 1990), to have his name included in a future Nintendo title. To participate, you had to snap a photo of you battling Warmech (who at that point in time was kinda hard to find) from the OG Final Fantasy and mail it into the magazine to enter. As far as I know, the magazine never actually divulged which game his name was put into - and it took almost a decade before someone stumbled upon it accidentally and started talking about it on some ancient AOL gaming boards.
@bradg44892 жыл бұрын
@@Incorrigible010 bit it didnt take a decade it was posted in magazine because internet didnt exist and it was known at the time how to use speed boots on libary wall to get to it.

In "home" on PS3, you could clip your furniture through corners and take it outside, allowing you to fly freely across the map, including a plaqute that says "You're not supposed to see this" You can also drop your furniture into the abyss... As well as your player character, despite not being able to "die" in the "game" It just caused your apartment to crash, eventually, and reset.
